They really do… seems like it’s because people nowadays like to kill anything bigger and choke anything smaller. The 12 seems to be the last of the drums with any tone and no one actually practices tuning for tone anymore lmao.
@liamdempsey7072 people want to kill overtones no matter what. Just because sounds bad from the kit doesn't mean sounds bad from the audience.. overtones blend much better by the time they've traveled a bit
Tune the resonant to Bb and the batter to F. It’s a perfect 4th interval that I learned from legendary tech Kenny Sharrets and it’s worked well on most 12” rack toms I’ve tuned
Bro every well tuned tom you've ever heard has been tuned to the same pitch. It ain't hard. Same pitch on both heads, to the resonant pitch of the drum.
Same here, but try to change the tuning or the tuning note of every tom. It might be better to tune the 12 inch first and then the other drums around it.
the res heads are all a little low, and the 12 could come up a bit. basically tune the 12 and 16 as if they're your toms and the 8 and 10 become accidentals. the 8's a little high, too.
@@beaumillion6222 ah, it looked like it was all the way down to the middle of the stick, For me the markings are usually closer to the tip but our techniques could be different.
So I figured that the rim was touching the kick drum ever so slightly. It wasn’t rattling so I was confused, but after lifting it the tone balanced out
@@beaumillion6222 do the wrinkle method. Finger tighten the whole head and then put ur fist in the middle of the head and press down and tune out the wrinkles!
I have a 7 piece 1999 stage custom, all floating toms...always struggled with the 14"...but used the Remo Rings and made tons of difference, easier to tune when you remove a bit of resonance.
It will almost always rattle it, but you can tune down the Tom and it should take some of it away, you can also muffle your Tom a bit to do it too, but again that extra snare buzz from toms is normal
So that’s a frequency dilemma. Every drum has their sweet spot, and your 12 is hitting that on the snare. As Aniston said, tune up or down the Tom slightly. Tuning down might be the best option. That or tighten the snare bed and mess with the snare side head… Let me know!

that drumstick is on life support
Shit, it still has plenty of life!
Turn your snare off while tuning bro. 👍
For sure next time!
Wait why
Why? Are you that incompetent hahaha!
@@DavinchiDot it makes ringing noises when you're hitting the toms, some ppl can tune them better when it's off because the toms are clearer.
@@MoonmanSpacejamit’s working smarter not harder
The first Tom sounds like it has snares
People slander 12” for no reason. That and a 14” floor tom are my two favorites.

I got distracted and this has been playing in the background for a half hour. lol
Just tighten those snare wires. The 12” isn’t too bad the floor toms we worse lol. Just put some muffling in them and you’ll be good to go
Thanks!
Tune the resonant to Bb and the batter to F. It’s a perfect 4th interval that I learned from legendary tech Kenny Sharrets and it’s worked well on most 12” rack toms I’ve tuned
Does it also work for 10”?
Bro every well tuned tom you've ever heard has been tuned to the same pitch. It ain't hard. Same pitch on both heads, to the resonant pitch of the drum.
Exactly. Start tuning with no heads thumping the side of the drum shell to get its natural pitch and tune to that.
Similar issue (although not early as bad) on my 10, though I’ve got some tweaking to do anyway
Bro my 12” Tom and I got serious beef 😂😂 I swear it doesn’t like me or something
Haha!
It’s the toughest top to tune IMO. The issue was that the Tom was barely touching the bass causing pressure on the bottom hoop.
I hate 12 inch. I Go with 8 and 10 inch rack toms
Ok thankssss now i know im not the only one 🙏🙏🙏🙏
13 inch tom is worst to tune 😅
@@hdh418 funny you say that, I just got my first new 13” tom 2 days ago and thought, “damn tuning this is more annoying than the 12” Tom.” 😂😂

If you have good suspension mounts, try 185Hz for the bottom head
The drumsticks looks like it’s been through World War III
Your stick looks like its 1 rim shot away from deleting itself from existence. Tho its pretty far down for that, how’d that happen?
What do you mean by far down? It’s from rim shots on the snare for sure
@@beaumillion6222 ah, it looked like it was all the way down to the middle of the stick, For me the markings are usually closer to the tip but our techniques could be different.
Have you tried tape? In marching band we usually tape the front half of the stick so that the markings wont damage the stick itself.
@@paradoxxproductions4784 that’s really cool, once I get back t drumming I’ll start doing that, I always chew my sticks to the bone, lol
@@pedrooliveirasantos6699 it's a good thing to do
I'd tighten up that lower snare head because it's getting a lot of sympathetic vibration resonance from your 12" tom.
Try cranking up the 12 a little
I’ll give it a try!
Thanks
Yes. Tune it to a higher pitch and let it ring. Now it’s like you’re treating like a floor-tom (and don’t forget the reso-head also) ✌🏻
Need to actually take it down some.
It looks like the 12" is resting on the kick..
What is your tuning scale on 12’
Re-tune that 12 from scratch. Pay attention to the rim being perfectly center
Man alive!!!!!☝️🙄 sounds like 🪣 buckets!!!!🥱
Same with my Yamaha Stage Custom 12". I just can't get it's sweet spot no matter how I tune it.

sounds like the problem is the resos
Snare tuned too low
The 8 and 12 need like a quarter turn less they sound too tight
I actually like that signing tone. Sits well in the mix
Put a pokemon card between those snare wires.

Sounds like Tupperware
Tupperware has a more consistent tone than that haha
i’m sorry bro that 8 is out of tune
This whole kit is out of wack lol
Ftom sounds others sounds choked
Check your snare wayer😂
Its because your 8" sounds like a 10" And your 10" sounds like a 12" so you end up tuning your 12" way too low
That is probably some of the most god awful sounding buckets 🪣 on earth!!!!!☝️🙄🤨
yeah I was planning on going to home depot to get some new ones.
Man did you eat your sticks ?
Need more fiber in my diet so here we are haha

The drums sound off tune
Get new sticks
Got a brick of 5A barrels in the mail!

Work on not hitting so hard you won't have to by new sticks and heads every month and the will stay in tune longer
