How did we get here?
After a year of full time travel living the van life, we had to adapt when the world changed. To keep busy we’ve converted our tiny house on wheels into a fully functioning off grid tiny house that has everything we need. Realizing that none of us know how long this new normal will stick around, we made the decision that building a home here was the best decision we could make. We've spent the last year doing EVERYTHING involved with coordinating and planning the build ourselves as well as setting up this off grid property to be able to provide us with the the food we'll need in the future.
Watching this video back, I don't really think it does it justice on just how much work this has been and the crazy part is there is still SO much left to do. While Ty spent the last 2 days editing, I've been out in the woods trying my best to get a handle on the debris...slowly but surely, we're getting there but it's definitely been one of those weeks where we've been questioning is all of this really worth it? Of course...you know the answer. There's nothing that could ever replace the magic of an early morning kayak surrounded by thousands of acres of forest. HOWEVER, it doesn't mean that some weeks just really suck, that's just the reality!
Hi you guys should be shirtless more often. Shirts only get in the way of storm clean-up any way
So glad you guys are ok.
@@JM-iw3yp I feel like the pandering your body for views niche is already pretty saturated on UA-cam :)
I just ❤️ love you guys. Wish you were on more. You bring light into our day. Thank you.
@@tylerandtodd Tyler, I know why you sat in the chair watching Todd at work with that chainsaw :P I know what you need also , an outside bed under the (or a) gazebo just for days like this make a difficult week put a smile on your and our faces :) and I hope in your tubbb there's also a bubble feature in it ? works great on the sore musscles . Love you guys mwah
Hey guys. Did you know that the wood ash from your burn pile is great to sprinkle on your compost pile? Save the ash and use it in the garden to help with the soil fertility. ❤️ So glad you both are safe, along with your fur babies. ❤️
Biochar...Great stuff. Totally agree with you would be brilliant to add to the soil for your food production. You guys have worked so hard!
Put the ash on before it is rained on. Don't water the pile to put it out. You lose the nutrients when it gets wet. In the fall it is great to use the white ash right on your asparagus plants when you mulch them.
I just posted about this before I saw your comment! We use ours to very good effect in our vegetable beds.
Coffee grounds are great on your plants😊
Can use it to make soap too!
I'm turning 65 in a few days, work 50 hours a week ,all alone ,cant wait to see my boys on Sunday!thanks
Yes, it is worth it. I like the peace and quiet. No crimes. No traffic. No neighbors.
Wow, the fall colors of the forest are just beautiful!!! I was so happy to hear that you guys made it safely through the hurricane with minimal damage/destruction. I can’t imagine how scary that must have been. I hope that you all have a great week.
I love how open you are to expressing happiness. In a world where so many people seem unhappy with their lot, and not shy about sharing that unhappiness, it is refreshing to hear you guys say openly that you are happy. Long may it last. X
Well said!
clearing a forest area is a responsible land owner
Darlings…I send well wishes & prayers to you! Of coarse it’s All Worth It!!! Anything & Everything important in life, is hard! Oh What Fun It is…to ride thru the forest, work to the bone, play thru adventures, sweat thru worries, relax in mystical setting, and look at everything you have experienced!
I Miss You & the Vlogs…plzzz return soon, I need you😂😢! Simply Amazing & SIMPLY THE BEST!❤🎉
OMG.... The fall colors are so beautiful and so glad that you and the animals are safe❤️🌈
Omg weren't they? Went all out with the drone shots this week for y'all!!!
I'm really shocked there wasn't a jacuzzi-time after all that heavy work! But then you might have just fallen asleep in the water. You two are really amazing with how much energy you are able to expend and still carry on. I'm really impressed with what you've done with the land and all the amenities you've given yourself on the land. It's really a beautiful place. I absolutely get how hard it must be, but you persevere. And Tyler, you do such a beautiful job of editing the vlogs. I hope you are able to find someone that can help you, soon.
I thought 100% that the jacuzzi was the reward for the hard work too!
The good thing is that they help each other, I am really proud of you both. Take care 💞
LOTS OF DAMAGE!!!! Thankful the dome and other buildings escaped111 And both of you and the dogs too!!!!
I can't speak for any one else, but I love your "boring" content. As a city/apartment dweller, getting out in nature is a planned event - not as easy as just stepping outside my door.
I live vicariously through so many people on UA-cam who are showing mundane activities like tending to a garden or clearing brush around their homestead. Idk how to explain it better; its therapeutic to me.
Hey guys, just thinking about you. Not sure why you’ve not posted, but just know that no matter what you’re going through, you are so loved and cared for by those of us out here in the world who not only enjoy your content, but fully support you during your absence from being on line. Always in your corner with much love to you and your fur babies.
💙
I love that you two stop to appreciate what you have. Like the simple pleasures of a glass of wine in a comfortable chair after a hard day’s work. Have a good week guys. ❤
love the bonfire, too!
Folks. Whenever there's an unannounced missing video, go to their channel's homepage, and check the community tab. They post announcements there and updates. If you go there now (click any one of their "thumbnail Tyler and Todd" links) you'll see that they have posted a notice that Tyler is ill.
Vielen danke fur die hilfe, Fritz! Hier sind ja so mange fragen. (And if that goes through the grammar check, I'll be damned. German is not my best language...😁 )
Any glass is a wine glass in the right situation. Enjoy the autumn colors gents, and definitely enjoy the wine!
You know it's Sunday, when Tyler and Todd are on our screens. Having my nachos and going to watch the vlog. Love you guys. 🤗😉❤️👍
Well now I know what we're having for dinner!!! YUM, enjoy!
So glad you made it through this with no serious damage, just labor-intensive damage. The drone shots of the foliage are just gorgeous. As always, you are amazing.
My neck my back 😂 ...we won't fill in the rest. Lol You both have STAR quality. Way to GO with your positivity 😊...love you.
You aren’t alone. You have each other.
It’s fun to see multiple Canadian UA-camrs living alone in the Forrest have the same pool and sauna
Don’t blame them.
From this 50 year old Australian woman, THANK YOU for sharing your week with me. You bring me such joy and delight. I love seeing you tackle any and all challenges together and show such love and respect for each other. Enjoy this fall season. In Australia we call it Autumn .
Freeze at 12:25. This is why ( no matter how many storms come your way ) you live the lives you do; and why you live where you live.
It isn't Sunday without checking in with my favorite hermit alcoholics!!! 🤣🤣🤣❤️❤️❤️❤️
Missing our Tyler and Todd. Hoping everyone is doing well.
One of the last things I thought you guys would have to contend with was a hurricane! I’m so happy that you made it through the storm.❤
Nova Scotia gets them every year but this one was particularly bad!
Hurricanes and winter hurricanes and/or Nor'easters are very common here and with global warming and the Atlantic ocean being so much hotter it draws and gives life to the storms that come from Florida and up the east coast..in the past waters were so cold it was unable to sustain and fuel such massive storms - not any more...so gotta prepare! I hope one day Ill get to stop by on a trip to NS and say hello and have some Jack Rose with all of you! haha
All that brush that gets burned turns into wonderful potash for your tomatoes....they will love it and thrive! A big bonus for you. Well done guys!
I am chronic ill but you two keep my life full of joy and laughter so thank you boy
The music, the drone footage, your laughter, your smiles, Charlie doing better - so, so enjoyable and heartwarming!
My favorite Dynamic Duo, My Favorite Boys. I love the way that the two of you bounce right back. Your energy is amazing and your smiles are infectious. You absolutely made my day. Sending Love n Hugs to Tyler, Todd and their Lil Family 💙💙🐶🐶🐱🦩
Ruby is such a blessing
Just an idea for future tree falls... here in the UK, conservationists working in woods make habitat piles from the kind of stuff you were burning. Habitat piles are piles of brushwood and rotten trunks etc, which are left to rot down, and which provide habitats for all sizes of crittur as well as many fungi, mosses and lichen and are a really important asset in biodiversity conservation in woodland. It would save you a lot of work. You can even just leave it lying where it fell, wherever it doesn't interfere with your access. Huge love to you guys!
Glad to see ALL my babies came out okay!💞
Gosh, you two and the Vanwives put out the most perfect videos! Wonderful storytelling, perfect music, fantastic shots on the ground or using the drone. I am just in awe of the quality you put out every week. And the Fall colors as seen from the air are breathtaking. So glad everyone is safe. Yes, that is incredibly hard work cleaning up the fallen branches. Burning all that slash is the right thing to do. I remember being taught years ago that any dead tree will release the carbon that is in it whether it rots in the forest or is burned. Burning just does it a bit quicker. But as you say, leaving around drying piles of branches is a fire hazard that would endanger the entire forest….and your homestead. Love you guys and the pups. 💗
I know what you are going through is tough. But then you are kayaking down a waterway to make you happy.
Y'ALL have such an Amazing place. It's just SERENITY everywhere you look. Luv watching Y'ALL. TY for sharing.
So happy to see you both and the beauties of Vanwives get through this without an incredible amount of damage.
Thank you both for brightening up a wet dull Canberra day 💕
You guys just constantly amaze me! I mean, there is shit all over your property, and you two just plug away at it, get tired, and then start again. I'm exhausted just watching. Take care, thank you for letting us in on your life. Much love.
Love a man who knows how to use a chain saw! 💓😎
I'm so glad everything was fine after the storm. I'm still praying for all the Canadians that lost their homes. Fall is definitely my favorite season this footage was absolutely beautiful the river, the trees everything is gorgeous!! You are so lucky to have each other and such a beautiful place. I enjoyed this video like always . see y'all next Sunday
Your amazing at how you take everything in your stride, so pleased there was no damage to the dome 😀 ❤️
Trees looked so beautiful with changing colors of the leaves 🍁
I just kept thinking “just go in the hot tub”
Survival can be summed up in three words...never give up !!!
You never fail to amaze me, even a hurricane isn’t gonna stop you two living your dream life! So happy to see that no structural damage was done to the dome or the solar panels and that Charlie is doing well. The beautiful colours of the trees must be a gorgeous view to wake up to every morning. Much love and hugs sent to you as always T,T,C,E & L ❤️❤️❤️ also hope Mel got through the hurricane okay!
Just love you both and pups ! From Northern California wine country 🍷
Buzzed Tyler and Todd are the best. You should make a video of you two drinking wine and cooking .
Our dome arrives in 3 weeks. You two are our inspiration even in the bad and hard times. Thank you.
So excited for you Brian!!
🍷Tyler and Todd...Wine Connoisseur Lumberjacks 🍷🤣and I'm here for it !! 🤣Great job guys!
Hope all is well with you all. Have not seen a vlog in the past two weeks. Miss your updates. Keep us posted. 🙏🙏🙏🙏👍👍👍
Have you guys thought about hosting volunteers to help out around the property? Folks like my self would absolutely love to pitch a tent for a few months to enjoy your beautiful property and in exchange lend a hand.
I live for your fall drone shots! How is Fall not everyone's favorite season? So much hard work for you guys! But so thankful it's only fallen branches and trees you have to deal with and that no major damage happened to your property! See you next week!
Oh haha. There are a LOT of major trees to cut also but we just didn’t have time during this video 😂
@@tylerandtodd oh yes! I didn't mean to minimize the damage, I meant more in regards to the dome, gazebo, sauna and hot tub! As well as no damage to the solar panels and the garden! It's so much work for you to have to do for sure!
If I did 1/10 of that work I’d be in the hot tub for the next three days 😂. You two are such hard workers and make it look easy. Love from PA ❤🍁.
Love the Fall colors see you next Sunday ☺️😊

I am in SW Florida and we got slammed by Hurricane Ian so I totally feel your pain. Our coast is just destroyed! Glad you guys and the pups are ok! Thank you guys for your positivity and great content. I just love your love!!! 💗
Hey Michelle I'm in Tampa Bay, so sorry for the terrible losses in your area, glad you are ok. thinking of you and your neighbors
I'm in Clearwater. Hope things are going better and you're safe.
@@thirtynine3955 Shout out to 39 from Tierra Verde
And I'm in New Smyrna, just south of Daytona! We got the least of it and I've been in storms since the 80s and Ian was STILL the worst I've ever lived through! My heart and mind can barely grasp the horror of Ft Myers Beach and the arrogance and disregard for life that caused it (yeah - developers and dredge and fill). Nova Scotia will get more I'm so sad to say - sad and scared.
I hope you and your family are safe and you can recover from the devastation quickly.
Take small breaks and rest and hydrat love watching you two the love is always there ❤️ ♥️ 💗 💕 💖 💛 ❤️
It’s so worth it if you don’t like to have people living on top of you. I would live grid any day!
Watched vanwives vlog first...Kudos to you guys for checking on them during Fiona. Glad everyone is safe and sound
You guys are not only adorable but such an inspiration to us all. Thank you for sharing with us.
Things can always be replaced and replenished and I am so very happy to see that you two are safe. And that’s all that matters❤️
any pruning is tonnes of work thank-you Mother Nature. I love following you guys
I love seeing yall tipsy. It makes me giggle so much.
So glad that you always are looking out for the Vanwifes♥️♥️♥️
I was going to say the same thing after watching their vid this morning!!!
Great use of drone footage to create such a beautiful serene fall video. I'm so glad you included scenes with the dogs to give your viewers such piece of mind about Charlie's recovery. Your love for each other really shows with the playful banter and natural gestures of affection. All of this makes your videos so enjoyable. You really makes us feel a part of your world.
Just remember take time together like y’all did on the river. Love you so big stay safe and always be your authentic selves
So glad Charlie is feeling better!!!
Fall really is a beautiful time of year, it's my favorite season too! So glad to see you guys are ok. Also, that breakfast looked delicious! Lol 💕
Yay, so happy to hear Charlie is feeling better 👏🥰 Our pets are amazing, they generally bounce back so quickly from surgery. Good ole boys. 💗
The drone shots of the trees are just amazing! They are so beautiful!
Glad you like them!
Thankful you fellas and your fur babies are all safe and sound.💕
The ash is also good for the garden, it works like lime to balance acidic soils like you have there! Most compost is acidic too so you can bring the ph to neutral. So, its not wasting to burn the downfall.
Your Nan is smart, Todd. 😆 That big pile of brush would have been perfect for a weeny roast. So glad the two of you and your fur babies made it through the Hurricane. Thanks for sharing!
Beautiful fall in beautiful Nova Scotia!
Kayaking in the beautiful fall weather, outdoor kitchen, quiet surroundings.....💚🍁🌲🍂
What a great video!!! Showing the glory and joy of autumn and also the down-to-earth serious work that you two are able to complete. You really are much too hard on yourselves...you got so very much done!! And as a bonus we got a "Charlie-update" which really brought a smile to my face!! Thanks for the wonderful video (wow...Wednesday and Sunday....I could so get used to this bigtime!!!) Take care and enjoy.
So grateful no damages. Love the overhead view and seeing the fall foliage coming in.
Y'all are blessed! Your property is gorgeous. And are you sure you gents have learned as you go? I mean you both always look so professional in EVERYTHING you do, building, landscaping, etc. More men need to learn from you.
I could living the woods all alone.🥰🍷🍾🍸
Not me literally thinking of the same song when yall said neck and back. 😂😂
Please to hear Charlie is doing ok,stay safe sending lots of love and hugs to you all from the UK. X
First of all, I'm so glad that you all were safe, that Charlie is feeling better after his surgery and that your beautiful homestead wasn't dameged during the hurricane! Living of grid or in the country side is a lot of work, but like you said, it's totaly worth it! 😊 Tyler, you outdid yourself on the editing, the drone shots are STUNNING and wow. the woods look magical. Fall is slowly arriving here in southern Sweden aswell, and I'm loving all the colors and the weather. Have an amazing week, and see you sunday! 🥰
“My Neck, My Back”…comment had me cackling out loud with laughter…ROTFL 🤣🤦🏾♂️💀😂
Thanks for the unsolicited wood jokes- gives a real idea of what it must be like to live in the woods with 2 men.
Phew, no damage to anything that you have worked so hard to build! You were seriously buried all over your property with downed tree limbs! So much work getting it all sorted, and cut up, and stacked, and burned! What great teamwork you both demonstrate! I'm so glad to see you took a morning to enjoy the fall weather while taking out your Kayaks! You needed a time period to refresh! Sorry your workload was so all consuming and demanding 😐 Sending love and positive energy to you both and the fur babies too 💟🙏
So happy you have a fabulous supportive family to share your journey with … we feel like your family too! 🥰
"Not really wine glasses." 🧡 Hey, better than a SHOE!
One of the best parts about all of this was the dome didn’t get pierced by anything
So, so, so glad that you and the animals are safe and sound. Good work on all that clearing and it'll stand you in good stead for firewood and cosy nights in the cooler months for years to come! Happy to see Crystal and Jazz are ok too. Scary times waiting for these videos my lovelies! We can all breathe a sigh of relief xxx
You are making wonderful progress. I live on the NC coast. We used to live on almost 30 acres. Hurricanes were so discouraging and stressful. It would take weeks and weeks to clear the debris. Don't get discouraged. You don't have a time limit. When you need to walk away from it for a while.....just do it.
Miss you, Miss you, Miss you!! I hate waiting more than 2 weeks for your next installment. Even a short one will do to fill the gaps....just to see your sweet faces!!
ton of work!! and we all know its alot ! love that you got some wine and some time together ❤️
Thanks, guys, for your busy clean-up video. It’s true. Life is always throwing stuff at you which you have to patiently deal with. You’re both so well equipped to do things like this. And there will always come joy when it’s all done and you can sit back and survey your fine work. Your characters are also well formed by your projects and perspicacities. It’s a delight to follow your journey. ❤️
Sooooo much work to clean up after a major storm. You both amaze me. Way to go!
The colors of Fall are beautiful. Thankful that you went to parentshome! So glad!
We lived way out in the woods on a river. Having to clear enough for fire breaks means some trees have to come down, old growth especially. That's what will come down and destroy property. The best & cleanest way to get rid of the unusable brush is to burn it. This city kid learned A LOT including how not so romantic living on a river can be as well as living 30 miles from the nearest freeway can be. It will only take once having a tree (just the top 20 feet in our case) snap off in a storm, nearly wipe out your vehicles & punch a hole through your roof. That is on a stick house, it would be worse for your dome. I think you guys are doing an amazing job.
Y’all are so resilient, I admire how you both work so hard to maintain your beautiful oasis in the forest. Glad to see you take breaks to enjoy the crisp fall and a paddle down the river exploring. I think it’s great that Nan visited and you took the time to enjoy her visit. You are blessed to be close to Todd’s family and it sounds like y’all all weathered the storm together. See ya next week!
Happy to see that you made it through the hurricane guys! And happy to see that you've taken time to take breaks in between the work of cleaning up. Thanks for the great video! The river and drone footage are lovely!
🥂 Cheers boys! You deserve some nice down time after all that storm clean up! You fall colored trees are breathtaking! See you next Sunday! 🍁🍂🎃🍂🍁
So glad that you are ok.
