- You have a great squat, now what?
It's time to move and become comfortable in low gait movements.
Low gait refers to moving and locomoting with your hips close to the floor. Like walking, but close to the ground.
Similar to a daily hanging or squat routine protocol, to get truly comfortable with low gait, I found a lower intensity, higher frequency approach to be effective.
The intention is to become "comfortable" with these positions and movements. Remapping our zone of comfort means spending time there.
Here are some ideas:
Proximal from the squat:
Knee touches, multiple squat stance widths
Curtsy squats : • Ido Portal Locomotion ...
Distal from the squat:
Cossack squat explorations
Side to side Horse stance pass throughs
Balance in Low Gait:
Single Leg low gait balance progression
Conditioning and Coordination:
Duck Walk : • Locomotion Duck Walk T...
Cross step : • Ido Portal Locomotion ...
Choose a progression which suits you, that can achieve a 15-20 rep range.
Enjoy the burn, enjoy getting comfortable "in the hole".
Acquiring a great squat is one piece of the puzzle - a posture, a position - now it's time to practising moving with it.
