How I Decompressed my Spine from Pain: 3 Ways that were helpful
1 month ago I suffered from acute lower back pain and I couldn't do anything except for walk for half a week. I've been enjoying a lot of arching and bridging recently in acrobatics, and unfortunately have been pushing too much with the volume, where I suffered a spinal compression injury. After the initial pain subsided, I got to work, figuring out how to help with the healing process. These are 3 movements which have been invaluable to helping create space in the lumber region and decompress my lower back.
02:06 1. Flexion Slump - creating space with intentional positioning and the breath
10:48 2. Passive Hang - modified hang to emphasise lumbar traction
20:16 3. Bartz Back Curl - loaded tractioning of the back (credit to @josephbartztraining )
I will document more of how I'm approaching my rehab process in a longer video in the future.
I reference my earlier video during the flexion slump - ua-cam.com/video/-pBPXZsUupU/v-deo.html
This video goes in great detail on how to differentiate between tilting the pelvis, and developing spinal control to push different segments of the spine back in the sagittal plane.
If you are suffering from lower back pain, experiment with these ideas using curiosity, but remember to be careful and cautious. Just because it worked for me, doesn't mean it will work for you. We are all different.

Single Arm Ring Row: Technical Setup and Progressions
Переглядів 1,4 тис.11 місяців тому
The Single Arm Ring Row is a fantastic organic strength development tool. Organic strength means that it challenges you to organise your body structure into a form to make it easier, more efficient. This is different to linear strength, which focuses on form and inefficiency - the more strict the form, the harder it gets. Working on the Single Arm Ring Row not only develops strength but pulling...
Basic Neck Movements - Tilts, Rotations, Oscillations, Circles, Waves
Переглядів 1,2 тис.Рік тому
Stiff Neck? The neck is a part of the spine which actually has one of the most degrees of freedom. If we notice how we can use it - it can tilt, rotate, circle, and even start a wave! Unfortunately, for many of us, we only ever look in front of us or down to our phones, maybe sometimes over our shoulder to check whilst driving. But the head was designed to give us amazing angles of freedom so w...
Cobra Stretch on Rings - Progressions and Technical Setup
Переглядів 2,1 тис.Рік тому
The Cobra Stretch using the rings is one of the top tools to develop spinal extension, lateral flexion and overhead shoulder mobility. It can be scaled to a very beginner level to very advanced, and modified in many ways with the use of an overhead ring. The variations shown, in ascending order of difficulty: 1. 01:50 Front Cobra Stretch 2. 05:30 Side Lying Cobra Stretch 3. 09:00 Side to Front ...
Basic Squat Movements from the Floor (Follow-Along Session)
Переглядів 2 тис.Рік тому
The squat is not just a resting position or something we only perform with a barbell. It can be a transition between standing, to other floor based positions such as kneeling, sitting, the fisherman stance, and many others. Each of these positions can be also used for resting. Very useful, when you might not have a chair! In this follow along session, I show 3 basic squat movements you can use ...
Unlock the Spine and IT Band: Rotational Stretches and Movements
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Рік тому
Tried all the stretches, up, back, along the side and still seem to be locked up? Maybe rotation is the key! Often people talk about thoracic rotation, but in this video I demonstrate ways of opening up the entire structure in rotation. I present three movements to explore: 1. Wrestlers Stretch - a unique stretch which creates a rotational coiling up the foot, side of the leg and outer hips. Gr...
Teacup Figure-8 Arm Variations
Переглядів 1 тис.Рік тому
The teacup motion, also known as figure-8, is an amazing integration of the upper structure - articulating the wrists, elbow and shoulder altogether into a beautiful movement. This movement is found in many cultures and practices in the world. How many teacup variations do you know? In this video I present 12 different ways to perform the teacup, from one hand, both hands, bi directional, synch...
Basic Spine Circles: Free the Neck, Ribs and Pelvis
Переглядів 3,3 тис.Рік тому
Move your spine! But how? Where do I start? For many, learning to articulate and move the spine opens a whole new world of sensations and possibility. The famous "spinal wave" can be a starting point, but here I propose an alternate set of movements. These are: 1. Pelvis Circle 2. Rib Circle 3. Head Circle I choose these as they are easily approachable, but infinitely deep. As your spine awaren...
Opening the Lateral Line of the Body: Episode 3 - Elastic Integration
Переглядів 812Рік тому
The Lateral Line of the body is an untapped potential of movement opportunity. Using the sides of the body is unfamiliar, as compared to bending over, bridging, or rotating. Side flexion is a mystery, and restricted. This final episode covers an elastic coordination to discover how side flexion of the structure can generate power. It incorporates small frame ideas from Episode 1 and global posi...

This month I revisited Praksis, Canberra (www.praksis.com.au) @PraksisCanberra to visit my teacher Thomas Emerson, and take part in the Workshop, "Trichotomy" taught by Juan Rueda @khoramovementschool. I was blessed to be able to go with my own "Trichotomy" of friends - Julian from @JulianakaMovementBielefeld and Ben @meditativemonkey4924. Julian is the founder of Movement Bielefield in Germany...
Opening the Lateral Line of the Body: Episode 2 - Big Frame Mobility
Переглядів 1,1 тис.Рік тому
The Lateral Line of the body is an untapped potential of movement opportunity. Using the sides of the body is unfamiliar, as compared to bending over, bridging, or rotating. Side flexion is a mystery, and restricted. This episode covers “big frame” mobility stretches to open up the side flexion of the body, a normally restricted area which can be a secret key to unlocking a lot of “tightness”, ...
Opening the Lateral Line of the Body: Episode 1 - Small Frame Motions
Переглядів 1,4 тис.Рік тому
The Lateral Line of the body is an untapped potential of movement opportunity. Using the sides of the body is unfamiliar, as compared to bending over, bridging, or rotating. Side flexion is a mystery, and restricted. This mini series opens the door. The first episode starts with the “small frame” - subtle motions on how we can segmentally tilt the body. Although micro, the impact is macro! Do n...
Arm Emptying Basics - Body Softening Practices
Переглядів 2,6 тис.Рік тому
"Emptying" is to "let go". Arm Emptying, practises the ability to allow force to transmit freely through the structure out into the arms. It is a type of "looseness" practice, an opposite quality to tension generating patterns such as handbalancing and gymnastics strength. What you love can eventually turn on you, and this is certainly the case for a lot of strength/tension based patterns as wh...
Low Back Relief: Articulating the Lower Spine
Переглядів 1,6 тис.Рік тому
Are you continually struggling with lower back muscular tension or discomfort? I was struggling with lower left hip and back tension after a 2 year bicycle tour around Japan and China. Sitting in that position for 5 hours a day left me with unusual tension patterns deep in the body. Many people are not aware of the fine control that you can develop throughout the spine. The lower portion of the...

You're gonna want to do some quad stretching and calf stretching before doing this, to be safe.
Just watching this video makes my quiver in throbbing pain....takes me back to my All Girls Highschool Futbol days. 🥺💗😞.... I miss those days. 😄
It's the first time I see a video breaking down spinal movements so well. I'm deeply grateful for you? I know how to start my spinal health journey ! 💪
Thank you. I have been doing a lot of Tapp Brothers follow along videos and have recently been doing the Primal Movement 101 program. QM crawl and crab walk is part of it plus there is transitioning between both. On Nov. 25th, I worked on this video but didn't do the integration. This evening, I did the integration and loved the flow of it. Not easy but I was able to get in a little rhythm. This is my off day lol. I like your instructions..
Looks like capoeira

Thanks very much for this 👍
Brilliant instruction. Watched so many videos on various flow movements etc.. but this progression and your details has got to be the most beginner friendly and clear..bravo!
Amazing! I’m recovering from chronic shoulder problems, excited to use this tool, thanks!
Enjoy, explore well - map out unknown and known regions, assessing capability.
Great video! Great instruction! Will be adding these practices into my daily practice, thanks!
great tutorial! thanks
Great contents! 🔥
Sir you are super best. I love this video
Thank you for a detailed lesson
After about 6 months of having this as part of practice it is now a staple to my diet. I found myself remembering doing this kind of thing as a youngin. Thanks for the inspiration and helping restore this lost natural art 😄💯
❤❤
This guy knows what he is doing

Your Channel us criminally underrated. It is the first channel that teaches movement culture in a structured, didactic way.
beautiful man, thanks!
Which New Balances are those?
I dunno man. Long time ago. I got them in Japan.
👏👏👏
This is best - thank you.
Helps unwind tight shoulders. Excellent. Thank you. I’m going to try it with books in my hands to make sure I’m not spilling books.
Really good step by step explanation of the technique. Thanks!
This video is excellent Phaon. Currently going through the exact same process. After too much Capoeira and Soft acro work lately, yesterday I was some doing Front Squats and my right QL left the chat 😂 This has been truly helpful man. I feel so much better after going through them! ❤I hope you are doing better too. Take care.
Absolutely love all your videos. Excellent instruction, and wish you continued success!
I found your channel and loved it!
This is definitely THE BEST video that explains how to progress towards the lizard crawl! Thank you.
excellent tutorial.
Nice... the first exercise is similar what I do in my tai chi class which is standing meditation.
