So, I ordered a used large 31 from Arizona Custom Knives. It’s been a grail of mine for a long time, but thanks to your videos about the Sebenzas you have, I decided to buy one. Thanks for what you do Erica! Your honesty and in-depth reviews are why I decided to finally buy one.
Thank you for the in depth detailed review. I’ve wanted a CRK Sebenza for years. I’m 63 years old and just forced into retirement. I looked up your video on CRK to get your input. Watching it made me decide to pull the trigger. You only live once.
Thanks for sharing about your Sebenza's, they are very cool. 😎👍This is still a knife I have yet to acquire for my collection, but perhaps someday. 👌Take care and Cheers!
This was the first video I saw that made me decide I was going to get a Sebenza at some point. And now here I sit, on my Birthday, with my large PJ 31 glass-blasted Insingo, happy as can be! I think I'll get a drop-point with inlays at some point as well, maybe a Small. Thanks, Erica!
@ after having a large 31 for almost a whole month (got it used shortly after I made this original comment) and carrying it daily, the only way I can get slight flex is if I apply more force to the spine of the blade than would ever be necessary. If I have to apply that much force to a knife spine, I’ll grab a fixed blade lol.
Enjoying your channel and your expertise. Been into knives for many years. Do all my own sharpening and I'm very determined to have razor edges. For what it's worth, I have moved to convex edges on many of my knives; including Chris Reeve, which used to utilize convex on some knives. It's a great geometry and very easy to maintain at home or in the field. Bark River uses it exclusively.
For those who don't care for the bead blast, they now make a glass blasted handle that is smoother and is less prone to the snail trails. Definetely worth checking out
I’m so jealous, not going to lie. The small Sebenza is my favorite knife. The look is just perfect. Probably won’t be able to afford one for the next 10 years at least. But the good news is the I do have my second favorite knife, the green Osborne 940.
Erica - separate side note but I recently got the super mini freek and I really think you would enjoy testing it. I know all the flak Benchmade has been getting and yada yada but this knife is fucking superb. I had the larger one years ago and while it was great I ended up selling it. Decided to bite on the mini here and my my - it’s so satisfying to use. Their M4 is heat treated pretty well too. Just a friendly tip/putting it out there. Mom loves the knife too, she gets super freeky with it.
I think I’m going to get myself a nice guy machine co. Clip for my large Sebenza but I’m hoping the left handed variant doesn’t affect it being angled and all.
@@ericasedc awesome, love the look of these! Going to try and get on the next pre order and spice my new baby up a little bit. 🔥 Keep up the content, let’s get those views pumped back up! 💪🏼
I was interested in buying a Chris Reeve Sebenza 31 Plain Tanto or Drop Point or Insingo, but Direct Order Lead Times are 4 years as of 1/2024 (updated once per quarter). Wow!
MXG makes a lanyard delete pin for the Large, looks nice and the plain one matches the polished/silver factory hardware very nicely. J2H makes a cool delete/integrated backspacer but they seem to be hard to get a hold of, but i would like to check one out.
Hi Erika. Great video. I'd like to know your opinion, I have a small sebenza 31. It's incredible. But I'd like buy another Chris Reeve's knife. My options are. Other sebenza 31. Or an small inkosi. Both are in magnacut. Regards
I got both the large and the small sebenza 31 in magnacut, kept the lanyard on the big one but removed it on the small and I don't even notice the rattle. How do you even notice the rattle?
@@ericasedc I still want a drop point Umnumzaan at some point but I need to not buy knives and finish building my motorcycle and get a helmet camera so I can get Eldo Moto going and start getting paid to ride my motorcycle
My Chris Reeve Mnandi's, the older ones before the change in the nail groove, are not convex edges. Many of the fixed blades, in particular the older hollow handle survival knives in A1 tool steel, also were not convex ground. The Mnandi's are real works of art! I have 2 older ones, one with ebony inlays in BG42 and one with Elder Burl inlays in SV35. My carry small Sebenza, not marked made in Idaho, is BG42. I have a large Sebenza in ATS 34 with a P prototype number. When these were purchased I was also a big fan and owner of Bob Terzuola knives which are very beautiful in design.
This is not a bead blast. the Glass blast is a bead blast, but not this. this what they call the sand blast which it isn't exactly that either. It is an Alu. Oxide blast. A true Sandblast is exactly that. Sand medium grit. Wit the look of their "Sandblast" I can't help but wonder if it is an actual Silicon Carbide medium. It would make more sense as it is a grippier texture and the blas medium last much longer for the manufacturer as s it is much harder than Alu. Oxide medium. I have no idea why they charge more for a Bead blast option as it is exactly the same process and takes no longer unless they are finishing the scales to a finer finish before blasting which would explain the up charge. Sandblasting hides small scratches present in surface finish before the blasting much better than bead blasting, but bead blasting gives a much harder finish as it burnishes the surface. I bring bblades to an almost mirror finish before bead blasting, but only a 320 to 400 grit finish if sandblasting. Such a finish would still show belt grit marks if bead blasted. A way to cheat all this is to stone gumble before bead blasting. Ultra low cost way to finish a blade. No skill of any kind to do. A simple low budget industrial deburring finish. Thank you, Erica for addressing the lock flex. I have off and on considered saving for a Sebenza but didn’t want something where the blade moves.
It`s strange , i have 2 large inkosi , 2 small 31 , 1 large 31 , none of them has lockrock , 0 movement , perhaps I`m extremely lucky, who knows :)
