    Nice vid. My only criticism is that most of these clips are random and unrelated to what you’re talking about. The video would’ve been way more impactful if you showed questionable offensive plays. But instead it’s just plays where the call wouldn’t even be in question cuz nothing is happening and the players aren’t even touching each other. Still a good video though.

    They are not changing the rules here, they are just clarifying with the referees and fans what the actual rulebook says. The officiating began to deviate too far from the actual rulebook.

    • @bohanxu6125
      @bohanxu6125 2 місяці тому +3

      Real life situation is way more complex than a few pages of rules can describe. Phrases like "Offensive player initiating the contact" or "defensively player jumping in his own airspace" are all fundamentally vague and up for interpretation. The true cutting line is set by the current pattern/tendency of foul calling on the court, not on paper. This value/human pattern/tendency can be changed by communication between the league and the refs.

      Nah, the game isn't any less physical. In matter fact, more foul calls happened in the 90's. Everyone saying they loved 90's basketball typically haven't actually watched games of that era from what I've noticed. Guys had less shooting, inferior skills off the dribble, and weren't as crafty with punishing over eager defensive players. If you hit an offensive player while they're shooting, it should be a foul period. We don't need to artificially bring back the low scoring games of the dead ball era by legalizing obvious fouls to make older fans happy. A foul is a foul

  • @obi3924
    @obi3924 2 місяці тому +18

    Part of it isn’t the amount of fouls being called. It’s the type of foul. Anytime a player drives, picks up the ball, and gets fouled, they get free throws even if they don’t put up a shot.
    Another case is I saw Jimmy Butler yesterday go for a layup, miss, got the rebound, got fouled while landing, and get free throws even though he didn’t shoot the ball again. Refs are too quick to rule fouls as shooting fouls.

    I think another contributing factor is Wemby as the anointed future Face of the NBA. It's become obvious that his main superpower is once in a generation defense. As a rookie, he's already a candidate for DPoY. Rebounds, Blacks and Steals. He's got it all.
    And it's Adam Silver's job to help him reach his most impressive potential. For the future of the league. So moving forward, the league will shift to empower defenders more as to give Wemby (and Chet too) a better chance to showcase their skills and get more fans.

    I think the directive should be "call the regular season like the playoffs." Scoring drops dramatically in the playoffs. Part of that is higher effort level and part of it is better game-planning. But a big part is also how much contact the officials allow. If you called the regular season like the playoffs, that would be enough to get scoring under control.
    I don't think most people want to go back to early 2000s basketball with the Pistons beating the Nets 84-77 or whatever. But there's a middle ground. Games that finish 143-137 aren't that fun to watch either. I think 110 is about the perfect average score.

    I don't believe that scoring has increased mainly due to the talent level, it has increased because the NBA hasn't allowed players to play defense in the regular season anymore. The playoffs is a good example, when the officials allow players to actually play defense. The games have become unwatchable atm, Shai, Luka, Embiid, they are all foul merchants, they are very talented and gifted scorers, but every damn contact, they seem to earn a foul.

    • @lookatzay4813
      @lookatzay4813 2 місяці тому

      I only agree with that to a certain extent.. However, the main reason the scoring is so high is because the style of play, the amount of three point shots, and how fast paced the game is now… it’s also hard to guard when you have almost every player can knock down a three(I exaggerated) also you have team setting screens all over the place.

      Casual, Lebron played like 70% of his career and won his 4 MVP and 3 of his FMVP before the 3pts revolution and scoring explosion that really started around 2018 after the Warriors dominated the league and won 3 titles, so from 2003 to 2018, the game was still similar to other era, the 2000’s and early 2010’s were like the 90’s, and the late 2010’s like the 70’s or 80’s, it’s only after 2018 or 2020 that the offensive rating reached a new high and keep getting higher, so basically after Lebron 35th birthday, Lebron isn’t in his prime anymore, if not he would be putting much better stats, but because of the offensive explosion, the spacing and 3pts shooters everywhere his basic 5 major stats still look the same as they were in his prime, but stop acting like they did this for him, who could have tought that Lebron would still be playing at a Top 10 level at this age ? This is just the natural evolution of Basketball man, offensive rating always go high, then low, then high again ect, you would know it if you wasn’t a casual

    I dissagree with you. If they take away calling fouls when driving to the hoop. Then Everyone is going to play like the gay goldens state warriors styles where all your going to do is shoot threes and avoid driving to the hoop. If they want to limit scoring. They will have to officiate like they did in the 90's. Which is more physical. Handchecking allowed. And if a team gets to hammer you when going to the rim let them hammer you to send a psychological message to the smaller less physical player that if you drive to the hoop you will get hammered. This will add more variety and stategy to the game. Rather then just driving to the hoop and kicking out for the open 3s or just shooting 50 shoot attempts from 3s. The game is so mindless now.
