When real DJs existed, there was no term/genre called alternative music. Alternative to what?
The local college and University radio stations played all kinds of tunes and even had a show with six local acts a couple x a week called "the home brewed six pack."
Some of those bands ended up becoming national and international touring acts to go on to play Lollapalooza and make the billboard charts.

Edie Brickell was ahead of her time, one of the precursors to ‘90s female alternative artists like Lisa Loeb, Natalie Merchant, Natalie Imbruglia, Alanis Morissette, etc. This song alone sounds like it’s from 1993 rather than 1988.

Wore out a cassette of "Shooting Rubberbands at The Stars" in my car by 1990 making trips from my military base to my hometown. Been meaning to get a CD of it. Saw this performance on the Arsenio show, loved the tune so much sung by a look alike beautiful lady I dated in the early 1980s; next day I bought the tape.

The great Matt Chamberlain on drums. Two years after this performance, he would become Pearl Jam's drummer, but only for about a month because he got a gig as SNL's house band drummer (although I have yet to see video of him drumming on SNL). He would then go on drumming for Fiona Apple, Tori Amos and other musicians, as well as drumming on the Wallflower's 1996 album Bringing Down The Horse in the songs 'One Headlight' and '6th Avenue Heartache'. I wish he still played like he did with Pearl Jam and Edie Brickell. His playing evolved to a weird style lacking the tasty chops you hear here.

The Arsenio Hall show, with guest Levar Burton, and musical guest Edie Brickell...could it get any more late-eighties than that??

Edie is a beautiful soul, she's so cleared with her thoughts, a great follower from Windows 95 hidden Edie Brickell's "Good Times" video...

Entire album is just great. She was such a Hottie. "Marriage material" as far as looks and enthusiasm is concerned. You know the bushes were big, and it was a beautiful sight to behold. She seems like a handful.....of wild times 😊

*For real? I know the bassist went to a high school located in Dallas, but I didn't know Edie did.*

Pretty good to see SRV at the very beginning. Damn, it all looks so fresh despite the vintage video.
