Linkin Park is one of the most successful bands of the last 25 years and their way of blending together elements from different genres like metal, hip-hop, electronic music and pop created a signature sound that is highly recognizable.
Rob Bourdon has been the drummer for the band since day one and his drumming always laid a great foundation for all of their songs. Here is our take on his sound and two of their most famous songs: What I've Done and Numb.
If you're interested in the audio mixing process we will upload a free full mixing breakdown video here: artofdrumming.com/courses/mix...

Funny how not even a single soul recognizes Rob Bourdon in the comments. People have suggestions and opinions but nobody acknowledges Rob's existence. It's like, if Chester passes away, the entire band is dead to them and no wants to respect the existing members. How low will you fall? Lower than Alex Terrible's growls?
Exactly
Couldn’t agree more
Amazing job! Would love to hear you tackle Roger Taylor of Queen’s drums from News of the World! He has his equipment/mic’s listed on his website - I’m sure you could capture gold!
Hey guys! Love your videos. Would be seriously amazing to see stephen Morris of joy division/new order’s drum sound. Seriously amazing drummer who was one of the first people to start implementing electronics into the drum setup. Some called him the human drum machine. Thanks
Big facts here ^^^
Been a fan of Linking park since I heard Crawling on MTV. And Numb is one of my all-time favorites. But I never realized that the electronic percussions kept playing throughout the song! You learn something every day! Solid cover 10/10 Chester is guaranteed proud! May he rest in peace🙏
I think what makes LPs drums so special is that every band member is contributing to the creation of each song. Esencially remixing each other. We got Joe Hahn doing solid work on the electroning part, Mike Shinoda on mix and vocal prosessing, and Dave & Brad on the guitar and bass to create energy and good riffs.
Thats what makes Linkin Park so special. Everyone has a say and a part of each song!
Pascal is always hit for hit on point. Give that dude a raise!!!
holy moly.. can we just, for a moment, recognize the subtleties in this cover. I didn't really see any comments about it, but he is wearing over-the-ear headphones, just like Rob. Pascal is playing the part 101%. Bang on job, fellas
Jon Theodore on De Loused in The Comatorium by The Mars Volta is considered one of the best drum albums of all time and the drum/cymbal sound is incredible. Would love to see that one.
I'd love to see some jazz, soul, and r&b drum sounds too. How about Art Blakey, Clyde Stubblefield or James Gadsen!?
Yeah man, this was killin. Thank you for this series, really. The amount of effort yall put into these vids to really capture the personalty of all these drums, and drummers for that matter, really shows.
Keep it up, dudes!
Also part of the sound of the first two albums are Andy Wallace's kick & snare samples.
Amazing work as always! Thanks for featuring Rob. So underrated in his creativity precision and perfectly pocketed blend of rock and hip hop
I truly love the high quality of your videos! The content is unique. Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video series!
This is another absolutely brilliant video! Great work, Art Of Drumming Team! Qualities are top-notch as always.
I remember Slipknot's was next in plan, but I would really love to see your take on MIKE PORTNOY's sound.
I've always been curious to the way he tunes his snare and toms today. Cheers!
Amazing job, this is the best channel on UA-cam!!
This is just so dope! Y’all haven’t missed once on these videos
Love your work so much !!
that electronic sound on Gewa G9 is so close to the original. Can you do "Faint" by Linkin Park with the same electric drums?
I also want you to play "In the end" with the same Rob Bourdon kit too but I always want the 10 Inch splash for me and the china cymbal because I almost recreated a "One step closer" drum kit from the music video.
By the way, Great job playing Bourdon's drum parts correctly. Keep it up!
I do have a "hybrid" set-up, but it is made of a drum kit augmented with congas and latin timbales for drummers!
Was not expecting a Linkin Park vid anytime soon, this is rad
Great sound, great video!
Your series isn‘t complete until you do Simon Philips‘ setup ;) Love your videos!
I would like to see you guys recreate the drum sound of Sean Kinney of the band Alice in Chains specifically the drum sound of the album Facelift! The album has an awesome groovy fill to it thanks to great tom fills and bass drum works by Sean in songs like It Aint like That, We die young etc.I thoroughly appreciate the effort you guys are putting in your videos! Much love!
Great video!
Amazing!!🥁🥁
Damnnn. You guys are cranking out work. Takes me a month to record and put up one drum cover with my phone.
another fantastic video! could you possibly do zac farro of paramore? he is my favorite drummer and would love to see your take on his drum sound
I love the drum part so solid
Sehr cooles interessantes Video. Kann ich nur empfehlen!! :-)
Awsome video as always! Could you do Roger Taylor (Queen) or Mitch Mitchell (Jimi Hendrix)
Not a drummer but a producer. My drummer sent me to you guys and you have absolutely blown my mind. If you do requests... how about the sick compression settings on the kit in Ramona by Beck. I'm chasing that drum sound in my studio and am not quite there yet..
Thank‘s for the suggestion! Great to hear you enjoyed the video 👍🏻
I would love if you guys did a video on Nicko McBrains drum sounds from the 80s
This made my day.
Amazing job! appetite for destruction next!
This is exactly the same sound as the record!
Holy Mother of God, what magic are you guys using?
Amazing!!! Could you recreate Don Brewer's drum sound?
Please do Steve Jordan!!
Love Content
just skimmed through the video, but is there anyway you could try to recreate that metallic clinking sound used in hybrid theory? Songs like, PoA, by myself, and a few others! I really love the sound in hybrid theory
great content
Great, great, great!!
it would be cool if you could a recreating iconic drum sounds of nicko mcbrain
i like these videos but would like to see more about the processing behind the sounds. Maybe take one of these videos and go in depth about the mics, processing, preamps, eq, exc.. I think many of us would really find this information very useful...
Check out artofdrumming.com/courses/mixing-iconic-drum-sounds
Those free videos take you through Pascal's audio mixing process. There are 2 Linkin Park videos there where he explains the mixing of both songs.
You could make a whole series on the legendary Bill Bruford and his setups...
it would be awesome to Easier to Run that drum pattering is awesome
when i listen to what i've done by linkin park i have a weird feeling, like a weird nostalgia that I feel in my body.
You should breakdown I prevail's drummer Gabe Helguera
No regrets watching you guys, 🤘
In the intro the steel snare sounds better than the wooden one you are using afterwards. Which one was the first from the intro?
Very good job
Great!
It would be awesome if you did soundgardens drum sound, or Nick Masons
Awsomeee why Rob never use Octapad?
Love the vids man, u should do tommy lee next
So cool
Thanks 🙏
Add Wild Mick Brown from Lynch Mob too! Lynch Mob's 1st 2 albums!
Well dove and nice sound, but i think after 30 episodes of this series one on the gavin harrison sound it s necessary and inevitable!!!!!!
With a complete Anesthetize drum cover from pascal please 😄😄
"let's check out the tuning of the drums and what they sound like in the end."
..it doesn't even matter
;D
you should do queens of the stone age next
The Rev drum recreation please
Req Johnathan "Sugarfoot" Moffett

Are these mics used for their studio album? Live mics are fully audio-technica mics.
Those are simply the mics we have in our studio. We usually simply go through our mic collection and choose what we think is most suitable for the sound we're aiming for.
So no this is neither the original live nor the studio mic setup.
Do John Otto next
This was pretty good.
What about snares from By Myself, Points of Authority, etc.?
those have a sample playing along to them to achieve that industrial metallic sound
But I want to recreate that metallic snare sound Linkin Park uses e.g. in Figure09!!
Can’t wait for Scott Rockenfield’s drum sound next please!
You should definitely do Chris Turner's (Oceans Ate Alaska) drum sound.
What's the name of that man narrating? I like his voice.
Awesome Drums!!! 😜🤟
You all think you could do Roger Taylor?
Next do Sean Kinney or Carter Beauford.
I used to think rob used no crown gels or muffling for his snare. It sounded pretty raw and open on hybrid theory
the snare sound on In the end was an open snare too if you listen closely.
@@Rusli1659LPSoldier oh, i hear it now. Thanks LP soldier. Nice to see some other hardcore Linkin Park fans here too. Also do you think Meteora will get a 20th anniversary reissue next year?
@@necrodamus5481 yes indeed. but we are still waiting to see a behind the scenes of Numb. The making of the video numb was not uploaded to UA-cam yet.
@@necrodamus5481 by the way, Did you know that In The End on verses was only played 2 kicks? because the bass drum part blended to electronics so I found a isolated drum track that sound exactly like a live version in the recording.
ua-cam.com/video/GexN-2Pnh3Q/v-deo.html
Please do a Chris Alder Lamb of God....he has a unique drum sound
Just missing the A/C tubes!
niceee..
Black keys drums please :)
RIP Chester Bennington
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Can you do mike portnoy and daney carrey?
We gotta have Abe Cunningham’s drum sound from the Deftones
Recreate my chemical romances drum sound next plzzzz
Inferno(behemoth), Mario (gojira) & Dani (Tool) Please 🙏😄✌️
I thought I was the only one who calls him Rob Burden
maybe dream theater next?
Frankly electronic sounds looking close to original, but acoustic drums are very far. Maybe of course it's post processing during mixing. But Numb drums on the record sit and sound really different. But nice effort anyway.
Mr big greatest hit from there 2nd album lean into it daddy brother lover and a little boy the electric drill song
I know it’s really not that iconic but I think it would be cool if you could recreate the Pearl Jam sound
Sound Bring me The horizon ด้วยครับ
Still waiting for that Bob Bryar My Chemical Romance sounds like 😔 cmonnnn you guys are killing me with the suspense
it would take sometime to wait till MCR kit will come out next month, Bro. I hope if he covers Welcome to the Black Parade.
Chester would be proud!
incase anyone hasn't asked yet, what about doing a roger taylor drum sound episode?
We already scheduled the date for the video shoot 👍🏻
@@ArtOfDrumming WOO!!
deftones video pls :))))
Korn please 🥺🥺🥺
*The most successful band of the current century.
i think this is the first time you can't exactly 100% recreate the drum sound, still different from rob but your version is also great
I disagree they get pretty close every time
Go to the doctor and check your ears then
We need Danny Carey.
