if you don’t mind me asking, what are some uses for a Bowie knife. Doesn’t the big size become a problem for some activities? And isn’t a machete or an axe much better for chopping? Thanks
Good question. A large Bowie is a great survival tool. An axe will help you with wood processing, but not so much for cutting meat. A machete is great for clearing a path but not so much for skinning hide. Sure, the perfect scenario is to always have one of each, but it's not always feasible. The large Bowies were created as a carryable do all protection tool. You could use it for defending against an attack, but also do the things like chop wood and clear brush. You also have the other added benefits like, carving, processing meat and skinning. So while the Bowie can do the things the others cant, the others can't do all the Bowie can.
Suitable for hiking and camping. How many inches long is the blade? How many inches wide is the blade? Brother, brother can design, brother, brother can design a knife. Brother, brother can design, brother, brother can design a beautiful knife.
Hi there. Thanks for one more excellent review. I really appreciate this and always enjoy watching your channel which actually becomes one of my favorite knife channels. Excellent job! Two questions: I am not so familiar with real Bowie knives because I am mostly carrying military combat stuff. The Undertaker seems to be a great all purpose knife. Do you think will also make up if it has to be used in CQC? If not, what would be your first Bowie knife choice for an all purpose military Bowie knife?
Remember, all Bowie knives are fighting knives first. A properly weighted Bowie is the best fighter you'll ever grip. They gave birth to the military fighting knife. Due to ultimate fire power and the need for condensed gear, military fighting knives got less important. But I used mine in Afghanistan. They still matter. I carried two main blades. A Gerber LMF Infantry II and the Cold Steel XL Espada.
Thanks for immediate reply. I know the Gerner and the Espada. The latter one is just a beast! I am wondering if you carried a large Bowie beside these two excellent knives. Donnie, quick question on this knife. I just received one this week. Did your knife come with what appears to be a poly clear coat on blade (not hollow ground part), guard, and brass pins? It is super thick on the blade with run marks in multiple places. I guess that would replace oil, but never heard any reviewer mention this...? Be easy to remove with light sand paper I guess.
