I was able to by one starting 2025 and I am very grateful. What a stunning knife worth every penny. This is my first quality bowie knife. Thank you Gideon for the review. Happy camper here!
Thanks for the review, awesome piece. Looks well made. I’m a fan of the Bowie. I grew up on a Case V44 Raider back in the 60’-70’s. That thing was our house go to knife for my brother and I. The things we put that knife through, and it held up fine.
🙂 I've got an old (maybe 30-40 years) Bowie made in Sollingen. I got it from an uncle (he bought it when he was young) and it's not as big as this one, has a strangely short but heavy handle and the blade is maybe 3.5mm thick and has a hollow grind. I have used it extensively for something the inventors would have never imagined i guess. Last time i used it, i took it with me to work and in a quiet moment i cut some huge packaging into small pieces. (i had 12 big Servers delivered, and the carboard and the foam inside the packaging would otherwise just take up way too much space. The Blade is easily large enough for that, and thanks to the hollow grind it was better at cutting that foam than thicker knives and those with full flat grind or convex. The foam squishes a bit and sticks to flat surfaces better or follows the curve on convex edges while being split apart. On that occasion i took a whole bag of "cutting implements" with me for that fun. An Esse 6, Glock FM78, Fällkniven S1, Jäkaripuuko (14cm blade length) and a Kabar USMC. Those blades with a non smooth change between bevel and flat of the blade did better with the foam. As did those with no agressive blade coating. (The coating of the FM78 wears off way easier than that of the ESEE, but it also doesn't make the foam stick as much. With the carboard there was little difference. But i did notice that if there's no guard on the knife (out of these, the FM78 , the Kabar and the Bowie have a guard) it's better to wear gloves to not get cut or skin "sanded off" on the back of the thumb and index finger over time. (it was a lot of cardboard ... ;-) )
That's awesome thanks for showing it off! I got an old Bowie knife about 6 or 7 years ago from a local thrift store it was made in solingen Germany, i have always loved Bowie knives since I was a little kid
Have one like that but the size of a Buck 119. I love traditional things…stag, leather, slip joint knives, revolvers, etc. My handguns are always in a leather holster.
That's a beast of a knife!! The sheath looks the same as my Muela Jambali 21. Seems the same sheath makers , deliver to other Spain companies, but with different logos . Nice video Aaron!
I just purchased a joker -zorro, had I seen this video I would have certainly purchased this model, I'm newly subscribed so I won't miss the out the next time. Plan on getting one of those Bowie from joker in future, great video.
@ronboone6939 have you used your zorro knife out in the woods yet ? I was wondering how will the tang hold up to chopping and batoning . The zorro knife is a lot more affordable than this model but still looks of great quality .
@weberrebel7699 I field dressed a buck this season with it, it was actually a bit to large for that but worked fine . It worked really good when I was processing the meat up though. For chopping much it feels maybe to light, doesn't have the weight to do deep cuts. But extremely sharp and holds good edge. The Bowie in the video I committed on seems like it would be better suited for the type of use I would need, otherwise can't complain about the asteadyics or looks of the Zorro it's beautiful, just lighter feeling than you'd think it would be.

That knife right up my alley. Great review Aaron....as usual. Ive only heard people pronounce BOWIE as boo-ee like 2 or 3 times in real life. Here in Idaho most people pronounce BOWIE, bow-ee. Like its spelled and pronounced like an American, non someone with an English accent.
That is a great looking and seemingly quite practical Bowie, most of the Bowie style knives I own are more geared toward fighting than hard use wood processing but that thing looks like it could be a respectable tool for that purpose.
Looks very nice! The Linder "Kentucky Bowie" is another very nice knife in that same category and size range, if they're still available anywhere. They also have genuine stag grips.
I bought a bowie knife set, a big one with a little one on the sheath. They are from a company in Spain from a company called "Muela" I bought said knife set back in 1991, from a knife shop in West Yellowstone, Montana. The big knife measures 12.5 inches long, and is marked "ALCE" with the outline of a stags head in the C. I bought this combo because it had the big knife and a small companion knife, all using the same sheath. And thats all I know. I'm hoping you can help me?

Pleasent to wear. Sheath is beautiful. I use it for light wood tasks and meat process. I do have a fondness and love for Spanish blades. Spain seems to have access to antler. They have a mountain town that specializes in supplying that antler.the video in on UA-cam. Now when it comes to Spanish Stainless. It's a very good stainless. They have a secret quench temper process. They get very sharp and sharpen easy. The tradeoff is they can snap the steel. So don't abuse a Spanish stainless blade. JOKER is on the rise though. Slowly becoming a classy favorite amongst the knife community
G'day mate, yep for sure, technically one cant call anything a Bowie job with absolute certainty. I'm just going with the term for the sake of a common label for this style. Cheers Duke.
It likely looked like an 18th century French butcher knife, which was a coffin handle, guard-less knife with somewhat of a leaf-shaped blade; a far cry from how it was portrayed in 20th century media, which used mid-late 19th century designs (the notorious guard+clip point), like the Wade&Butcher bowie. The original bowie probably looked something like the Bark River Rogue bowie.
@@PTSDexplosion G'day mate, yep I agree very likely along those lines, besides I'd bet that the ol' Jim had more than one over his lifetime ; ). It was probably more the style of what we would just call a "chef's knife" today. That's what the blade looked like, but many of these knives were quite fancily made! A gorgeous example is the so-called "Perkins Bowie", if you want to look it up.

G'day Aaron, the ol' 119 has always been the Bowie style representative in my inventory, ...... albeit on a much smaller scale ; ) However, I reckon Joker has done it again, I do dig N695 and 90, especially for the dough and this one is something I could use quite happily as a primary blade on the trail. I'm trying not to get caught up by the looks of it, ........ but yeah gotta admit, ..... I do fancy it !!! Bit of a shame the antler scales ............ have shrunk ; ) and I'd prefer a lower ride on the belt loop. Btw; the sheath on my Bravo 1.5 has a cutout to capture the same sort of retention strap. I've heard some say its not lined up well enough to be effective, but mine has been working properly as designed. All in all, I'm see'n a new grail knife on the horizon. Cheers Duke. P.S. also btw; is that a Jose Sabater design ?
I know its not the subject of this video but since it was featured, i emailed Giant Mouse if they would ever make the GMF4 in different steel variations and i was told they would bring it up at the next team meeting. I'd urge everyone else to email Giant Mouse as well to ask if they will ever make a GMF4 in Elmax or 3V or Vanadis 4E in the future.
It will ride too high on my side, in my opinion. I would have to make/buy a dangler attachment. Jim Bowie the man pronounced his name Boo-e, not Bow-e, so you were correct. Thanks for a look at a good looking knife.
Nice blade. The tang "lip" could have been intentional, as stag scales will swell with moisture. They should be treated regularly with a bit of pure mineral oil. If they dry out, that "lip" will be a bit bigger. Cheapest I could find this one in Europe online was 200 EUR = 218 USD currently.
Hi there, A good looking knife to be sure. However - I don't see anything there that my Cold Steel Trail Master (San Mai III version) doesn't offer. In particular, I have found that those types of handles become very slippery when wet (I have owned one). Although I rather favour a sabre grind, I have come to really like my full convex ground Trail Master. The Trail Master has come a very long way over the decades and still features on almost every Top Five Large Knives list. The formula is just so good that it has shown very few changes over this period, other than some grind choices, and use of different steels (eg San Mai III). I discount the sheath issue because I tend to have custom sheaths made for my favourite knives. [ Mine was made by Rob Evans in Wales, UK, and shipped directly to me.] Even after quite heavy usage over a period, the edge is still just as sharp and certainly not needing any more than a light stropping. Therefore sharpening "in the field" is never an issue. Cheers mate!
Beautiful knife but I'll keep my Cold Steel Trail Master. Because of the knife's size I don't hang it from my belt so I don't mind it's nylon sheath. My Trail Master is on display in my living room when not in use.
Joker uses this steel on many of their bigger blades and 14c28n on many of their midsize/camp knives. Personally, I'd prefer 14c28n on all of them and I wonder why they do this. Imagine a Nomad in 14c... or a premium option in K390 or Magnacut.
The Joker Bowie is a good-looking knife but for the price I'd take a Bear and Sons 9" Bowie in Sanvik 12C27M. It won't have the same edge retention but would be twice as tough and more stainless. Also, it's a US made blade, half the price, that looks damn good.
N695 is 440C, it is brittle. 4116 is basically 12C27M, it is tougher than CPM-3V(but with lower strength and abrasion resistance). The issue with many 4116 is that they get cheap HT, for reference of a well done 4116, think of buck 420HC. 4116 is better for a large hard-use knife than 440C
A lot of people would argue against this. I have owned a joker 4116 and it was ok. I’ve been testing my knives on pine kindling and 440c is competitive against the other steels. However one dc53 is great and the other dc53 is crap. Heat treatment here or one is not dc53…. Possible. I think the Bowie knife is over priced and there are better options for that price.
It’d be great if they improved the handle and sheaths on the TM. At that price too, a knife like that deserves better handle/sheath materials than the ones they use for their budget lines.
Do you have a model number on that knife? Your video convinced me to buy it but the CC101 (assuming that’s this model) has the Mova 1.4116 Stainless not the N695. Did they change steels?
This may sound blasphemous, but I still think the best Bowie-style knife I’ve ever used was the modern Bowie from Fällkniven. I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of their products.
Hi Gideon, tactical!! I’m fairly new to your channel, I must say, you are doing an awesome job on your presentation, I’m really enjoying your content and reviews, right now I’m binge watching your channel, on your next video would it be ok with you for a Q&A about previous reviews? Hello, pls would you be able to send link where I can find the knife for 140 Eur? I live in EU so taxes and customs should not be issue... thanks in advance man 😊
Have you ever heard of Muella Brand knives another great knife made in Spain I’ve Muella &Joker brand and some other brand K.O.A. CRKT Buck White River Falk of coursr Mora Esee to name a few
I don't own any of them, but from what I've seen, Joker makes some great knives and their blade profiles, when making reproductions, are spot on. I do own a Bowie that is nearly identical to that one...it's just not made by Joker.
Recon scout for the performance, this bowie for the looks; although n695 is a pretty decent performer itself, it’s no 3v, but if the synthetic materials on the TM are what keeps you away I’d say this bowie is a great compromise.
The currently made trailmasters have either better blade geometry (convex) and same steel (san mai iii, very similar), or same blade geometry but better steel (3v). The handles and sheaths on the trailmasters are crappy plastic/nylon; and they’re more expensive depending on where you live.
The steel is close to VG-10 or 440C which Bill Bagwell identified as inferior or weak steel. Too bad they didn't make it out of high carbon steel or it would be wonderful.
@@gideonstactical You feel wrong. This steel cannot withstand the lateral stresses that will be placed on a bowie knife in the field. It is also very hard to resharpen.
That’s all steel-snob jargon; something like 440c being labelled as “inferior” goes in no one’s favor except to those who are trying to sell you over-priced steels with negligible if not absent “advantages”; for the vast majority of uses, 440c is objectively a great steel, both chemically and practically; the people berating it online are simply keyboard warriors and backyard survivalists that baby their knives and live online. Go out, use your tools, and you’ll realize how full of crap all of these claims made by “experts” tryina sell you something, or paid by companies, are.
@@PTSDexplosion It's called an education in metallurgy. Also combined with 4 years in the Marines using various steels in the field. 440C proved to be inadequate just as Bagwell said. Stainless in general is far too brittle to hold up in combat or in a survival situation.
Since you’re such an expert in metallurgy you’ll know the chemical differences between 440c, vg-10, n690 and even steels as hyped by backyard ramboes like 154cm are hughly negligible and pretty much absent; in terms of practical use, such steels, especially n690 hold much better to what’s considered “hard use” (chopping, prying, slashing/stabbing hard surfaces such as rock and steel) than their highly hyped and treasures “supersteels”, which are only better in terms of edge retention, aka if you’re gonna be cutting food/cordage and chopping relatively soft wood; why do you think they don’t make swords or machetes out of elmax, magnacut or 3v? Are they just being cheapskates or is it just that an object which’ll have withstand abuse would simply break if it were made out of these metals? Both from personal experience and both from hard use tests available for anyone to see online, the alleged “superiority” of supersteels is clearly a lie, or at the very least it’s true if all you’re gonna be doing with your knife is food prep, rope cutting amd feather-sticking; the inferiority of snobbed steels and superiority of “supersteels” isn’t something that goes any further than an online comment section or a knife/steel marketer’s words; it doesn’t apply in reality; I get you need to cope about having spent money on novelty market jargon, but please, differentiate the facts from your feelings/made up fiction. Go smack a brick with elmax or magnacut, then do the same with n690 or even a 1000 series steel and see what happens to your little backyard survivalists pre-conceived notions. Sure, the former steels will cut rope for longer, but not with a difference you’ll actually notice on the field, and they’ll be harder to sharpen/repair when you hit a rock/hard knot (likely, if you’re actually using your knives). I like supersteels and have spent money on supersteels, but I’m aware that it’s mostly a novelty and that, as delusional internet rambo badasses like you call them, “inferior” steels will get the job done and be even more efficient in some, especially practical and hard use related, fields. Until then you may as well keep huffing copium.
I feel like this knife would make Mic Dundee say, "That's a knoife".
Absolutely!

However, I reckon Joker has done it again, I do dig N695 and 90, especially for the dough and this one is something I could use quite happily as a primary blade on the trail.
Just ordered one, your a great communicator 👍
Awesome, thank you!
I've got 2 of the smaller ones, love em! Great video
Ya gotta check out offgrid knives backcountry v2 blackout..definitely worth it! Especially for the price!
Looks very nice! I would buy one if in the Bowie market
Will the retention strap rotate to the other side. That would alleviate the possibility of cutting it. Or at least, make it much less likely.
Looks like the Boker Arbolito El Gigante
I know its not the subject of this video but since it was featured, i emailed Giant Mouse if they would ever make the GMF4 in different steel variations and i was told they would bring it up at the next team meeting.
I'd urge everyone else to email Giant Mouse as well to ask if they will ever make a GMF4 in Elmax or 3V or Vanadis 4E in the future.
That would be awesome
Have you ever done the big cat roar damascus bowies? Similar grind but wooden handle. Im curious as to whether it is full tang or rat tail.
Not yet!
It will ride too high on my side, in my opinion. I would have to make/buy a dangler attachment. Jim Bowie the man pronounced his name Boo-e, not Bow-e, so you were correct. Thanks for a look at a good looking knife.
You knew Jim Bowie? 😮
Looks nice, but im a Bear &Son, Schrade, Uncle Henry, and Buck fan.
Nice blade. The tang "lip" could have been intentional, as stag scales will swell with moisture. They should be treated regularly with a bit of pure mineral oil. If they dry out, that "lip" will be a bit bigger. Cheapest I could find this one in Europe online was 200 EUR = 218 USD currently.
Good to know!
Hi there,
A good looking knife to be sure.
[ Mine was made by Rob Evans in Wales, UK, and shipped directly to me.]
Even after quite heavy usage over a period, the edge is still just as sharp and certainly not needing any more than a light stropping. Therefore sharpening "in the field" is never an issue.
Cheers mate!
Can't wait for the Kermit and Solidego review 😉
Beautiful knife but I'll keep my Cold Steel Trail Master. Because of the knife's size I don't hang it from my belt so I don't mind it's nylon sheath. My Trail Master is on display in my living room when not in use.
That looks great!
These videos are getting better every week lol.
Thanks so much!!
Can Scratch the firesteel with his back ?
Thanks !! 😊
It's the knife she tells you not to worry about 🎉🦌 🗡️
Hahahahah
@@michaelwaldeck7081 It is material fact that 440C is much loweer in toughness than 12C27M.
Wish my 3v Trail Master had that handle, and if it came with a sheath like that I might not have had to spend 200 bucks on one. Nice knife
Did they change steels?
amzn.to/4cC1xWk here is the direct link
CC139 if you're looking for the model number elsewhere.
This video must have sold them all.
@@nathankimbro2639 it did, hopefully they’ll get some more in stock soon.
The knife scales are so well done, that they appear to be fake antler. Maybe Italians have plastic deer? 🤣
Hey Aaron i used the link cant find this model?any suggestions
They are not sold out. I am sure they will be back soon.
@@gideonstactical thanks brother
Nice. I dream about the Fällkniven version.
They make stacked leather bowies in this size range, like the NL1 and NL2; same steel (vg-10, which is basically the same), but like $600.
This may sound blasphemous, but I still think the best Bowie-style knife I’ve ever used was the modern Bowie from Fällkniven. I’ve yet to be disappointed by any of their products.
Its 4times the price, better in what way?
Hi Gideon, tactical!! I’m fairly new to your channel, I must say, you are doing an awesome job on your presentation, I’m really enjoying your content and reviews, right now I’m binge watching your channel, on your next video would it be ok with you for a Q&A about previous reviews? Loving your channel and content, nicely done brother!!👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸💯
Thank you so much, my friend. Welcome to the GT crew. Feel free to ask a question and I might be able to answer it in an upcoming video.
Hello Sir
Thx for your job
In france the price of this knife is 130 euros
Man… unavailable on Amazon
can't find this knife on Amazon. Found other bowies by Joker, but not this one. your link sends me to a smaller bowie.
Yeah, apparently they’ve sold out. Hopefully they’ll do a restock soon.
@gideonstactical yes, your reviews definitely have an effect on sales. Not the the first time one of your reviews drained stocks!
How come I can’t find this knife anywhere? Is it new? I want this blade brother.
Sold out! Hope they get a new batch soon
In Spain, in my local hunting store at 140€ (152$). Taxes and customs are a pain.
Hello, pls would you be able to send link where I can find the knife for 140 Eur? I live in EU so taxes and customs should not be issue... thanks in advance man 😊
Hey Brother, have you reviewed Go Ruck MACV's, or MACALL's yet?
If so, please provide me with the links.
I grew up saying BowE like David Bowie but now I say Boo E like Bababooey from Stern. 👍 video 👍
Bow-E is the correct pronunciation.
No, technically it’s “boo-ee”, but who cares.
Have you ever heard of Muella Brand knives another great knife made in Spain I’ve Muella &Joker brand and some other brand K.O.A. CRKT Buck White River Falk of coursr Mora Esee to name a few
Bummer I can’t find it anywhere online
Sold out hopefully they will restock soon
I don't own any of them, but from what I've seen, Joker makes some great knives and their blade profiles, when making reproductions, are spot on.
I do own a Bowie that is nearly identical to that one...it's just not made by Joker.
Is it a Blackjack/Randall?
I own a Case Bowie used once to cut a Turkey
Beautiful
So since they are about the same price, this Joker Bowie or the Cold Steel Recon Scout in CPM 3V?
Anyone handled both?
Recon scout for the performance, this bowie for the looks; although n695 is a pretty decent performer itself, it’s no 3v, but if the synthetic materials on the TM are what keeps you away I’d say this bowie is a great compromise.
I bought a beauty Joker Erizo Stag for the wife, she loves it!
Very cool gift!!
How does it compare to the trailmaster?
The currently made trailmasters have either better blade geometry (convex) and same steel (san mai iii, very similar), or same blade geometry but better steel (3v). The handles and sheaths on the trailmasters are crappy plastic/nylon; and they’re more expensive depending on where you live.
The steel is close to VG-10 or 440C which Bill Bagwell identified as inferior or weak steel. Too bad they didn't make it out of high carbon steel or it would be wonderful.
I feel like this steel is perfect for this type of knife, good attention durability ease of re-sharpening.
How much did this knife cost my good man?
