Hey guys I recently bought a Fragment off of Facebook Marketplace for $100. It had only been rode a couple of times and basically looked brand new. I'm also just getting into mountain biking so I didn't want to spend a whole lot of money on something I wasn't really sure if I was going to enjoy or not. After riding it on a few easy trails I've got hooked and started to think about upgrading but wasn't sure where to start until I came across your channel. You guys do an awesome job on your videos and I now have the knowledge to do the upgrading and I greatly appreciate it. Keep up the good work on your channel. HAHAHAH the shop towel shim is why I keep coming back to this channel. That's poor tolerancing on one of those parts because ec34 is what 99% of budget bikes are on cup size.

The headset cup should fit snug, not loose. It could be that the headtube is a weird size (budget bike spec tolerances) with the tension of the top cap it should hold okay. You can maybe try the old upper cup with the new sealed bearings to see if that fits better.

34mm is going to be it brother, its just a more budget bike so im sure all specifications are different. Get a 34mm and maybe add a piece of electrical tape to keep into place, not ideal but man its really important you change out the headset especially if you are going to change the fork.

I bought the same exact bike last month (down to the green stickers) to learn how to ride. Have put about 100 miles on it between beginner trails and pavement. I've also had a rear go flat, my chain snapped on a climb, and both brake lever mounts have snapped off when I wiped out on some rocks. I'm a little reluctant to take this thing out on the intermediate trails after watching your first video on this bike, but I'm very curious to see how well this thing will ride on that cat's meow after all the work you guys have done!

i've just startet to watch you channel this week, all of the other channels I've watched are mainly about bloody expensive gears, it is a breath of fresh air to watch your channel, as it is budget friendly. great chemistry between you guys, what's your opinion between air vs coil forks regarding maintenance and reliability?
Hey man that is so cool of you to tune in and stick around, so first of all thank you very much:) Now regarding your question when it comes to reliability of coil forks they seem very reliable over time. I ran my GT's for quite a while and they seemed to be descent, now I will say the preload knobs wore out and were no longer adjustable over a certain period and the overall weight sure was a killer. The air forks that we have been buying (budget) seem to be somewhat reliable when it comes to cruising or soft trail riding. Now the Lutus we had for quite sometime have failed us but they endured miles and miles of abuse! Sut we have not tackled the rebuilding or maintenance phase yet? Im sure when we do we will be filming ha ha and not to sure if you can rebuild the budget forks. Again congrats on 4k soon to be 5k lol Also thats a common thing with headsets the only problem i see in using the towel is its going to wear down and also if it gets wet its going to wick water right into that area besides that i dont think u need it in there to be honest. I think your 5k bike should be one build for your dad id love to see what type of bike he likes to ride and i think it would be awesome for him to have his GT aggressor type build series lol

Man you do not have to cut them at all, it all depends on your height and preference. I would recommend getting some spacers though. That and a headset would be useful, the aftermarket headset is far superior and ti comes with a new crown race which the old one cannot be taken off, so you will need one too. Man they may be a winner, just be sure to order the affiliate linked Jessica headset in the description on the Rockshox fork vid. It comes with an adapter to use a straight steerer tube if you cant find a tapered one.
Hey when all else fails, blue towel will work. I wonder if you could do a couple tight wraps of electrical tape without it smushing when it gets compressed. Nice weight loss with the BuckYeah forks!
I love to see the Fragment getting some love, I have upgraded the wheels, fork, headset, pedals, stem, and bars on mine and it feels like a brand new bike lol (it practically is with all of these upgrades lmao). I also used the Jessica 34mm and it fit snugly so I wonder why it was so loose on yours. Love the videos and I'm excited to see what comes next!

Damn those are pretty light forks. Lighter than the sr suntour xcr 32 forks I just put on my 2020 aggressor pro. My forks weigh 5lbs 5oz. but the rockshox recon silver TK I put on my 05 aggressor weigh 4lbs 9oz. That’s a very impressive weights loss for that bike.
We are hoping these things do at least okay. At $110 and as light as they are, if they will just perform descent we will be happy. Thanks for doing such a good job representing the #wolfticknation we appreciate it buddy.
I picked up the lower priced Bucklos for my MTB , the bushings were loose, oil leaked from seals, preload had no effect. Did the air fork show a higher build quality, or am I asking too much for a $100 fork.
I'ma cut you some slack on the split crown race but I did comment before that they go on with the slit to either left or right side. The goal is to not have the slit where most pressure is exerted most of the time (front/rear.) Next time you'll do me proud. 😂

Hey brother, new tires! You got us:) will be reviewing them as well ha ha never ridden on them yet but may try them on the Taff first? Anyways dont need a new headset for the forks but it is good to get one because it comes with a crown race which sometimes is tack welded to the factory fork. The upside is a tighter fit and prevents water and dirt from getting inside. Also way smoother:)

Funny as always guys. That headtube is probably a weird size and you wont find something that fits perfect. I would take out that shop towel and do a single wrap of electrical tape. That will seal moisture out of there better and wont degrade. If you want to get under 30 lbs since you are so close take the tubes out and go tubeless. Just for shits and giggles you could do a carbon seatpost also, theyre stupid cheap on ebay or amazon like 25 bucks or something. That will do it.

Hey brother, YES you can use them on the Taff BUT will require you to order a new headset. Check out if you havent yet, the Taff headset video. In the descrition there is an affiliate link for tthe Jessica headset that I ordered. You will need that because it has an adapter for a tapered headtube that allows a straight steerer tube to be used. You cannot remove the crown race from the Taff's fork because it is welded on. So that is another reason to get a new headset, also you will have to change out the headset because the cups for the new headset are not beveled. funny thing is the same thing happened to me with my headset. the bottom one fit no problem but the top was loose and i was so confused. so i just returned the headset and im using the old crappy exposed bearings. hopefully someone can help me out and tell me what kind of headset i need.

Hey man is it normal to be able to just about bottom out the fork while standing over the bike stopped and pushing down full force even when the fork is at the proper psi?

With that pressure I can bottom them out by standing over the bike and pushing down as hard as I can with a little jump. Do you think I just need to put in over the recommended psi? would this fork do well with someone in the weight of 250s-260s? recently got back into biking i have the same bike and the fork is shit for someone my weight not looking to spend over 200 usd
Oh ok gotcha:) Now we do not recommend but, f it were my dad riding (he is heavy) he thinks he would go with a RockShox Silver Tk -(--ebay.us/o7xlIt-- AFFILIATE LINK) it is a tough fork should hold up well. Well Dad rode it and he says you may want a sightly bigger bike. If you replace the bar and stem you may make it work but what about a XL GT?? They are quite big , that or a cheaper Taff??

if the cup slides right in without needing pressed, its going to oval the headtube over time. it must be a compression fit. The headset looks correct as its an external cup 1-1/8 headset. But looks like it has poor tolerances. you could shim the headtube with a coke can skin. thats the ghetto way of doing it.

You can use a beer can or aluminum foil to shim it. I did it to my Jessica headset and it works just fine.

I bought the same exact bike last month (down to the green stickers) to learn how to ride. Have put about 100 miles on it between beginner trails and pavement. I've also had a rear go flat, my chain snapped on a climb, and both brake lever mounts have snapped off when I wiped out on some rocks. I'm a little reluctant to take this thing out on the intermediate trails after watching your first video on this bike, but I'm very curious to see how well this thing will ride on that cat's meow after all the work you guys have done!

i've just startet to watch you channel this week, all of the other channels I've watched are mainly about bloody expensive gears, it is a breath of fresh air to watch your channel, as it is budget friendly. great chemistry between you guys, what's your opinion between air vs coil forks regarding maintenance and reliability?
Hey man that is so cool of you to tune in and stick around, so first of all thank you very much:) Now regarding your question when it comes to reliability of coil forks they seem very reliable over time. I ran my GT's for quite a while and they seemed to be descent, now I will say the preload knobs wore out and were no longer adjustable over a certain period and the overall weight sure was a killer. The air forks that we have been buying (budget) seem to be somewhat reliable when it comes to cruising or soft trail riding. Now the Lutus we had for quite sometime have failed us but they endured miles and miles of abuse! Sut we have not tackled the rebuilding or maintenance phase yet? Im sure when we do we will be filming ha ha and not to sure if you can rebuild the budget forks. Again congrats on 4k soon to be 5k lol Also thats a common thing with headsets the only problem i see in using the towel is its going to wear down and also if it gets wet its going to wick water right into that area besides that i dont think u need it in there to be honest. I think your 5k bike should be one build for your dad id love to see what type of bike he likes to ride and i think it would be awesome for him to have his GT aggressor type build series lol

Man you do not have to cut them at all, it all depends on your height and preference. I would recommend getting some spacers though. That and a headset would be useful, the aftermarket headset is far superior and ti comes with a new crown race which the old one cannot be taken off, so you will need one too. I'm surprised you didn't use electrical tape to fit the (slightly bigger) upper crown race. I remember you did at another episode.
I love to see the Fragment getting some love, I have upgraded the wheels, fork, headset, pedals, stem, and bars on mine and it feels like a brand new bike lol (it practically is with all of these upgrades lmao). I also used the Jessica 34mm and it fit snugly so I wonder why it was so loose on yours. Love the videos and I'm excited to see what comes next!

Damn those are pretty light forks. Lighter than the sr suntour xcr 32 forks I just put on my 2020 aggressor pro. My forks weigh 5lbs 5oz. but the rockshox recon silver TK I put on my 05 aggressor weigh 4lbs 9oz. That’s a very impressive weights loss for that bike.
We are hoping these things do at least okay. At $110 and as light as they are, if they will just perform descent we will be happy. Thanks for doing such a good job representing the #wolfticknation we appreciate it buddy.
Original fork has is mounts most bikes run post mount, not sure if any downsides to either just different ways

I picked up the lower priced Bucklos for my MTB , the bushings were loose, oil leaked from seals, preload had no effect.
Did the air fork show a higher build quality, or am I asking too much for a $100 fork.

I'ma cut you some slack on the split crown race but I did comment before that they go on with the slit to either left or right side. The goal is to not have the slit where most pressure is exerted most of the time (front/rear.) Next time you'll do me proud. 😂

Hey brother, new tires! You got us:) will be reviewing them as well ha ha never ridden on them yet but may try them on the Taff first? Anyways dont need a new headset for the forks but it is good to get one because it comes with a crown race which sometimes is tack welded to the factory fork. The upside is a tighter fit and prevents water and dirt from getting inside. Also way smoother:)

Personally we wouldn't tear those forks apart. We don't know but would say probably not, but not sure. Sorry we couldn't help more.

Funny as always guys. That headtube is probably a weird size and you wont find something that fits perfect. I would take out that shop towel and do a single wrap of electrical tape. That will seal moisture out of there better and wont degrade. If you want to get under 30 lbs since you are so close take the tubes out and go tubeless. Just for shits and giggles you could do a carbon seatpost also, theyre stupid cheap on ebay or amazon like 25 bucks or something. That will do it.

Hey brother, YES you can use them on the Taff BUT will require you to order a new headset. Check out if you havent yet, the Taff headset video. In the descrition there is an affiliate link for tthe Jessica headset that I ordered. You will need that because it has an adapter for a tapered headtube that allows a straight steerer tube to be used. You cannot remove the crown race from the Taff's fork because it is welded on. So that is another reason to get a new headset, also you will have to change out the headset because the cups for the new headset are not beveled. Thanks for the question and please let us know if thats enough info:)

funny thing is the same thing happened to me with my headset. the bottom one fit no problem but the top was loose and i was so confused. so i just returned the headset and im using the old crappy exposed bearings. hopefully someone can help me out and tell me what kind of headset i need.

Oh ok gotcha:) Now we do not recommend but, f it were my dad riding (he is heavy) he thinks he would go with a RockShox Silver Tk -(--ebay.us/o7xlIt-- AFFILIATE LINK) it is a tough fork should hold up well. Well Dad rode it and he says you may want a sightly bigger bike. If you replace the bar and stem you may make it work but what about a XL GT?? They are quite big , that or a cheaper Taff??

if the cup slides right in without needing pressed, its going to oval the headtube over time. it must be a compression fit. The headset looks correct as its an external cup 1-1/8 headset. But looks like it has poor tolerances. you could shim the headtube with a coke can skin. thats the ghetto way of doing it.
