Great video. Did a “revamp” on my son’s Fragment 29er recently. Completely changed it. Converted to single speed in the process. 32/18 gear ratio with oval chainring. Same ixf cranks you used. Tossed out the cheap spring fork with a SR Suntour spring fork I had available. That one was at least adjustable and has a lockout. Included a few more extra “upgrades”. Rides so much better and handles the trails with ease. Fun little project.
Heck yeah man that sounds great. Maybe a new fork as well in the future and a new set of rubber. Appreciate the comment and the views brother:) You got that upgrade BUG!!
That little black cap and "wrench" is for setting bearing preload on the crank bearings. Its not supposed to stay on the bike after you tighten the clamp bolts on the crank arm. And as far as the spacer for the bottom bracket, your chainline will tell you if you need it or not. (I didn't use any spacers when I put it on my GT). You want your chain to be straight when it's in the middle of your cassette.
I have a Fragment Ozone also ,biggest up grade that made the most difference was changing the tires to Schwebel Marathon tires .Second was 4 inch handlebar Riser (saves your back and arms) .Not the best mountain bike buy no means ,but for the money it's not to bad. Your up grades are great to ,but you know what they say about putting lipstick on a Pig . Great hands on video.
wow those are some great upgrades guys.....awesome how that sweet sticker matches so well....great video...."what he said" hahahahaha have a great weekend
Haha yeah the sticker was made for that bike. We are going to film this weekend so hopefully the weather holds up. Thanks for the kind words and hope y'all enjoy the weekend.
Looks great, I really like my IXF crankset but I'd definitely recommend getting some of the Snail crankset bolts that cover up the bare aluminum on the cranks.
And just like that.... with a few upgrades, that bike immediately looks better, is now actually suitable or can at least hang on an actual trail (maybe.. hope to see you test it out sooner) and it was all budget friendly.. awesome guys! Vids like what you put out allow those people that have these types of bikes to have hope that they dont have to spend so much to have a bike that wont break down on the trail.
Little tip for diy mtb packs. Use the tool bags that come free with your power tools that zip up. I use a lime green ryobi bag i got free with my drill set. Fits everything perfectly including my helmet. Throw it in the car and go. Bam
Great video, I have the same bike, will be swapping to the Jessica handlebar tonight, already upgraded the pedals. I want to do the shifter upgrade but I've never done it, can you recommend a video which shows how to do it, Thanks! Can't wait for stage 2, for the fork upgrade!
Thank you very much, glad yo got the Jessica bars!! They are awesome, now as far as a shifter video not sure as far as our videos go, I dont think we show it in depth but let me try and explain.LOL Cut the end of the shifter cable off. Before you undo the shifter from bar shift down all the way so you are on the rears lowest cog now loosen the nut that holds on the cable to the derailleur. Pull the cable out of the housing and keep the housing in place, you will need it!! Now mount your new shifter/cable run the cable down the housing and make sure the shifter is in the lowest gear as well. Tighten the nut that goes throught the derailleur and pedal, The shifter should be GOLDEN!!! Hopefully then making sure your adjustment is correct cut the cable;) all done
Sweet upgrades! Will you be upgrading the brakes as well in stage 2? I recently bought an Ozone 500 but my rear brake sticks while I ride. Can’t wait to see your new videos.
May be man, we got to see how she does this weekend and maybe the brake pads and or rotors? We will see the calipers on there right now are terrible so most likely!!!😁😁😁Thanks for watching man👊👊👊👊👊
I have the same bike cant wait to buy these upgrades to make it a better bike. I'm 6'2" and the handlebars are too narrow for me and the pedals suck so this will help with those pains
Hell yeah man, look at a the forks and maybe a higher degree stem? That will help with not leaning over so bad! Appreciate the comment and the view man:)
Same exact thing happened to me. I contacted them and they over nighted a new set. I ended up not even using them. I went to race face and got a new hardware set. Way better quality for only $12 shipped
OKAY time to upgrade my pre-teen girls and watched a bunch of your videos! Need some advice: Ozone 500 Fragment OR the Schwinn AL Comp? Future upgrades are certainly possible like you've done in this video but we need to start somewhere and these two are in the budget at the same price point. Or is there a better option at that price point that I missed? Thanks guys!
Thanks for being a great parent! Lol , love that your letting the kiddos experience SCIENCE. 😄 Now as far as a great foundation we would lean more towards the Al Comp, they also have a womens..The fragment is way to big. Let us know what you endup doing, thanks again! Good Luck
Just picked up fragment off market place. I know nothing about building a bike but am going to follow your lead with some of the upgrades. Couple parts @ a time. What size stem do I need ? I am going to get the Jessica handlebars and same grips.
I promise you we will do all we can to make that happen. We are going to do a bike check soon and talk about our plans for each bike. Thanks man and hold in there.🙏
Well I will tell you this. I went from dreading this bike, to excited about this bike, with a small investment. Now I can't wait to get revenge on that Cats Meow MTB trail. Stage two should be fun as well maybe a budget fork and tires possibly. Hope to take it out soon so watch for that video in a few weeks or so. Thanks brother.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I tried 180 , 160 and140 mm and they work very well with the stem I'm using . Remember , I put my bike together using just a frame , it's not like my other bike ( the Trance 27.5 ) which came built from the factory . It is not 120 mm , it is actually 140 . The handlebar has marks with the lenght in mm and I re measured it again and it is 140 mm. I sent you pics of both my bikes , you will see .
Will you guys be doing any upgrades on forks/Suspension I want to change mine what would you recommend Budget wise. Great video I’ll give a thumbs up and a follow Ozone 500 Men's Fragment
Appreciated man, Now we will be doing a fork/stage 2 upgrade im sure. They offer the same Lutu fork I got def budget and its available in the 29er size. I think it would be great, got a buddy that runs it and just like mine, its sweet. @Antonio D Wagner Well we have the real time review of the stage #1 upgrades here: ua-cam.com/video/bKcaA4prlGE/v-deo.html And then we have the stage #2 upgrade here: ua-cam.com/video/b4GeobSHdaE/v-deo.html Let us know if that was what you were waiting for. We will do the stage #2 real time review in the weeks to follow. Thanks man and please subscribe and turn on notifications.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS I’ve actually made some of the same modifications on mine , I was just wondering if you would be upgrading the forks or anything else with this particular bike DIE HARD FAN!!!!
Do you know what Jessica Headset size would fit for this bike? I upgraded the bars, stem, and now I'm upgrading the fork 😎 thank you so much for all you do btw!
Man I dont know, we havent shot the new fork for the bike yet? If and when I will holler at you, I do have a 34mm I plan on using for it though, figured it would be it, but I will check man and holler at you when I do.

4:49 A thing to keep in mind is that that you might require a different crank puller, than this. for example Shimano ISIS & Octalink require a different crank puller than Square taper. If it's a universal tool it will work on all of these, so make sure you get one that works for what you are going to work on. Park Tool has two different tools: Square taper: www.parktool.com/product/crank-puller-for-square-taper-cranks-ccp-22 ISIS & Octalink : www.parktool.com/product/crank-puller-for-splined-cranks-ccp-44 But Pedro's has a Universal tool: pedros.com/products/tools/pedal-crank-and-bottom-bracket/universal-crank-remover-with-handle/
I believe they come from California, but they do ship fast. The most recent one we got was ordered July 3rd, received July 9th. You really cant beat this deal Cranks, BB, Chainring, and fast shipping. Hope you have the same luck. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for the compliment brother.
The crankset bearings on my bike are missing half of cage holding the bearings. Do you know what's the part number or size the bearings are so I can get replacement ones. the only thing I see it's 9 ball bearings. I went to several academy and Walmart stores but none have replacement ones and they don't have a tech that fixes the bikes.
Man the best I can say is to trial and error it? I wouldent know, heres a link man and hope it will work for you, I would try, not an expensive endeavor:)www.amazon.com/Alta-Bottom-Bracket-Bearing-Crank/dp/B07B3ZSR6R/ref=asc_df_B07B3ZSR6R/?tag=&linkCode=df0&hvadid=416925485727&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=419621030062037944&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9025802&hvtargid=pla-902874319838&ref=&adgrpid=89137677050&th=1
Will the Shimano EF500 7-Speed Right Brake/Shift Lever, and this one as well SHIMANO ST-EF500-L4A Work in this bike? I don't even know how to install them but I'll try
Hey man if it's a shimano 7 spd then it should work, make sure you take your time dialing it in when you install. Good luck and just incase we have a link to the one we used ha ha!! It works🤣🤣🤣
Hey tick I don't know exactly how to put the caps on the end of my bars with the cabin grips are the black pieces of plastic on the left and right supposed to be showing when you put the cap inside and then you tighten it???
It has an Allen key in the middle with a peice of plastic and bolt connected and that's supposed to go inside the end Not just a regular pop in plastic one like yours. Same ones but I got blue.
First slip on the aluminum piece, then the rubber grip with the plastic flange on the inside facing the aluminum lockon. Then insert the plastic cap at the end of bar and push the grip all the way against it, now align the aluminum jacket over the plastic flange and tighter:) Good luck!!
Yay number one. Keep up the great work brother. Try out a Schwinn boundary I think you'll like it for real can't stress enough come with one by and clutch derallure from walmart
Hey thanks brother. Yes the Boundary is on the list of bikes we are looking at, but still a no go around here currently. Most likely we will get one, but the Aluminum Comp 27.5, is the one we are excited for. Remember if the bike is already done, then we can't make very many videos, after the review.😁😜🚵
Man i swear one day i have to meet up with y'all and buy your dad a few drinks lol The bike is coming along as well i think your dads favorite color is red lol u put red on everything! Anyway bud have a great weekend hopefully y'all get in some riding.
Now that sounds like a plan buddy. You can ride with Jeremiah and drink with me lol. I do like red but ever since Jeremiah got those red IXF Cranks we just go with red stuff to accent. Don't know if I have a favorite color anymore let me get back to you, maybe in our upcoming update video. Thanks Steve.
Looking to go to a possible QR setup with an adapter, and also a new fork:) Hoping to get her back in rotation soon my man, thanks. Pretty good buy for the money:)
@@wally8241984able You might want to put a headset on while you got the fork off the bike. The stock bearings are garbage and usually falling apart when you take the old fork off. Also make sure you get a star nut for your new fork. Some of the headsets come with a star nut, but not all. Let us know how it goes🚵♂️
Hey thanks for finding us man, no video yet on budget style tubeless. Kinda feel if im going to invest that much time on something, kinda figure should really just buy the real stuff ha ah. Maybe oneday we will go tubeless but for now till I get another 27.5 wheelset that bikes gonna stay like that. Have you heard of the vittoria tire inserts??? I would like to try those out
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS no I haven't but I'll look it up, the area I live there's places with cactus that's why I was considering tubeless but yet don't want to spend an arm and a leg. Thank you for answering and have a great day.
Hey me again, I went to academy but still $199.00 still high for me, maybe doe black Friday. Hey since you removed 2 gears at front do you add gears on back or keep it as is? Also I did looked at Victoria's inserts seem easier than crushcore. Have y'all done a second upgrade video on the ozone 500? And what's the only us state mentioned in the bible? Thank you and blessing.
Hey brother the gearing up front changed but its a smaller tooth count so no need for a new cassette with the rear, it stays the same. No second upgrade video on the fragment yet, will soon im sure. NOAH??? Arc and saw!!
I haven’t rode a bike in 20yrs, but I recently bought this exact same bike used. Looked brand new, I just had to change the tire tubes out. Didn’t notice anything before, but since changing tube & reinstalling the tire on the bike, I noticed there’s a little play in he rear tire, it can wiggle back and forth just a bit. I’ve checked it up & down, taken it off & reinstalled 3 times, & still have no luck. Any thoughts on what could be going on? Thanks
Hey brother, we had the same problem on the hyper when we did a realtime review. The freewheel is loose and it will need a new rear wheel to fix. I would say to order a freehub rear wheel, that way you can upgrade the groupset eventually. Or look for a similar/the same freewheel.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS thank you. Any recommendations? I don’t really know what any of this is to be honest. I just made a list of all the other things you upgraded. Like the tiny grips, feel like my pinky is just flapping around feeling left out
You would need a rear wheel with a freehub, but here is a groupset you could use. If you had a freehub as opposed to your freewheel. groupset amzn.to/3mTNC5t
Hey man thanks for that. We try to balance the look into our unique relationship, and actual MTB stuff lol. Glad you like it. Thanks for the comment brother.
Well lets just say I seen my Dad looking around at forks last night and they were for a 29er. We only have one 29er so I did the math 😬 and yeah I think so lol.😜
the stock the crank shifter comes with the 7 speed on one side and the other is the +/- friction? was there any change in that during the upgrade because the shimano shifter link on comes with the 7 speed.. How do you control the friction? was there a purchase for that not mentioned?
For a Walmart bike it'll be pretty cool when it's done but them Shimano flat faced derailers I heard they're a nightmare to tune I have a hard time just to Justin attorney derailleur so when I replace my derailers I try to go with the Sarah a little bit better quality butter still a reasonable price
Def man, the derailleur thankfully is already tuned and if I ever do touch it, it will be very very small 1/4 turns ha ha! Thanks for watching and hopefully the next upgrades are legit
Steering wheel, stem, and a gravel fork. I don't have the geometry of the bike. And, even though I want to build this on a budget I wanted to mention that, this will be my everyday commuting bike. I want the parts to be reliable too. The last bike I build was 15 years ago and still works cherry. It's my every day horse
I will tell Jeremiah when he gets home. It was late, and we were tired, so who knows what all we messed up lol. If that's all that's wrong then we did good lol. 👌😋
Hey Josiah, checkout the Fragment video. In that video I show how to measure a chain and run it. Hopefully I can get a little better in the knowledge department to feel fully comfortable enough to oneday shoot a How To Vidoe:) If you ever got any questions man please let me know! Thanks
Hey man just seen the comment was in the Fragment video LOL I feel dumb! Well thank you very much for the comment brother and the forks are threadless 1-1/8 so finding replacement fork and or stem wont be a problem;)
Man but they feel soooo good! I am going to put the raceface half nelsons back on there. Didnt realize the thickness of my new supacaz ones and man oh man they are way to thick. Lets see how the grips wear on the fragment. Thanks man
I need some help with the shifters of my order the lever shifters which one should I get for which side and does it matter cuz the left side I know it clicks 10 times in the right side is 7 so does it matter which one is on which side and if so I'm trying to put one on each side not just to left what would you recommend and if you have part number that would be awesome if it's the same part number but just the right side as the last one please let me know preciate it
Well man would love to hello, now are you upgrading it to a 1x?? If so you will only need one shifter. The left shifter should only click 3 times and the rear should,d only click 7 times hence 7spd. What exactly are you trying to do??
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS trying to use lever shifters on both sides like other bikes iv had before. The back wheel is getting fixed at NW cycles, I went and pulled the left side and it clicked 10 times. Note; chain isn't on and back tire isn't either. Will it free click like that or it shouldn't be clicking that much?
Ok i got you, it is a friction shifter, so you have many areas to shift the front derailleur so it does not rub. That is normal, now most likely the shifter on the left will have to remain the twist style, unless you want to make the bike a 1X. Eithe that or have the bike shop take a loo and maybe you can try other shifters??
That was a nice intro 😅😅, at this point if your dad opens his own you tube channel he may get more subscribers than you 😅😅😅 (lol). Nice upgrades, I was thinking actually I was the only one upgrading 4 bikes at the same time but good to know is another guy in the same page like me , good stuff brother 👏
Oh SH*T Magnum come on now!!! You are Killing me😂😂😂😂If he does you better not send him anything LOL! Thanks man we enjoy shooting videos together and everyone loved em! Im glad you do too:) Later my friend and be safe! Take care of them bikes now ya hear????!!!
6:09 Tip, if you want a chain guide you can get an ISCG 05 adapter to put on there instead of the spacer and install a bash guide. but that's more something to do on the GT than this bike. here iss how it looks like with a E thirteen adapter and Absolute black oval bash guide on my old 2010 Trek 6300, I made an album for it: flic.kr/s/aHsmPBEtnm
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS if you get a bash guide, don't go for something cheap, that does not exist, there might be cheap chain guides, but for oval, there are only few options, as there are not many options for oval bash guides or chain guides now, there is Absolute black or 77designz, but Absolute black uses the 77designz guide. there might be more options, but so far those are the only proper options I know off.

OK:) Thanks buddy, will be sure to use it as such, thought it was a cap.😯😯😯😯😄
I have a Fragment Ozone also ,biggest up grade that made the most difference was changing the tires to Schwebel Marathon tires .Second was 4 inch handlebar Riser (saves your back and arms) .Not the best mountain bike buy no means ,but for the money it's not to bad. Your up grades are great to ,but you know what they say about putting lipstick on a Pig . Great hands on video.

Damn man! Ok so its not just me ha ha. The raceface though, thats a pretty good deal.👍Hope she holds up for the ride soon
Hey brother, checkout this affiliate link. The Fragment is a bigger bike so a 50mm would suit you fine. amzn.to/3Qz4QCn
I clicked the affiliate link and it didn’t work.
I kept the tripple. I love controls on the handlebars. I got remote (cable) for my cheapo dropper and fork lockout.
Dude you need the 1X its so damb smooth and light + it transfers very well.
Fire video as always.
Thanks man!
I just ordered the parts for the stage 1 upgrades. When do you think you’ll be getting to the stage 2 upgrades? Can’t wait to see that video. Thanks!
I promise you we will do all we can to make that happen. We are going to do a bike check soon and talk about our plans for each bike. Thanks man and hold in there.🙏
Congrates on 2000!
Thanks Brother got a full suspension bike because of it!!!! Budget of course coming out TUESDAY!!!!!!!!
I need to start upgrading my fragment!!
I use IXF and Snail too , Wake handlebars , cut down to 140 mm .
120mm!!! There's no way!!! LOL
Great video I’ll give a thumbs up and a follow

4:49 A thing to keep in mind is that that you might require a different crank puller, than this.
for example Shimano ISIS & Octalink require a different crank puller than Square taper. If it's a universal tool it will work on all of these, so make sure you get one that works for what you are going to work on.
Park Tool has two different tools:
Square taper: www.parktool.com/product/crank-puller-for-square-taper-cranks-ccp-22
ISIS & Octalink : www.parktool.com/product/crank-puller-for-splined-cranks-ccp-44
But Pedro's has a Universal tool:

Cool man it works for now and I love it!😁😁
Great video! Just checked out the IXF ebay link. Is it really shipped from Kentucky? What was the turn around time for your order. Thanks
I believe they come from California, but they do ship fast. The most recent one we got was ordered July 3rd, received July 9th. You really cant beat this deal Cranks, BB, Chainring, and fast shipping. Hope you have the same luck. Let us know how it goes. Thanks for the compliment brother.

Work in this bike? I don't even know how to install them but I'll try
Hey man if it's a shimano 7 spd then it should work, make sure you take your time dialing it in when you install. Good luck and just incase we have a link to the one we used ha ha!! It works🤣🤣🤣
Hey tick I don't know exactly how to put the caps on the end of my bars with the cabin grips are the black pieces of plastic on the left and right supposed to be showing when you put the cap inside and then you tighten it???
It has an Allen key in the middle with a peice of plastic and bolt connected and that's supposed to go inside the end
Not just a regular pop in plastic one like yours.
Gotcha:)
Does the ozone 500 have a weight limit? I'm a big ol boy and I'm looking for a bike 2 start riding for exercise.
Great job

Like the tiny grips, feel like my pinky is just flapping around feeling left out

the stock the crank shifter comes with the 7 speed on one side and the other is the +/- friction? was there any change in that during the upgrade because the shimano shifter link on comes with the 7 speed.. How do you control the friction? was there a purchase for that not mentioned?
Hey brother we did away with the front derailleur, the video focused on the 3x7 to a 1x7. The bike now only has 1 shifter and 1chainring.
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS does that really make a difference?
@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS appreciate it very much for the response great channel!
It simplifies things and provides a lot less "chainslap" when your chain makes noise slapping against the frame.

@@WOLFTICKVIDEOS and these biles all come 21 speed right?
yes...well most of them
Ok i got you, it is a friction shifter, so you have many areas to shift the front derailleur so it does not rub. That is normal, now most likely the shifter on the left will have to remain the twist style, unless you want to make the bike a 1X. Eithe that or have the bike shop take a loo and maybe you can try other shifters??
