    I first used an Amp sim in 2004... "Amplitube". It was like the proverbial talking dog. It's not that the dog talks well, it's that it talks at all. To extend the metaphor, nowadays, the dog sounds like Morgan Freeman.

    To echo what others are saying, get the Neural DSP stuff when it goes on sale, usually at 50% off on dates like Black Friday. I disagree with a lot of what Neural DSP does as a company but their stuff does sound great, and I don't mind buying a Quad Cortex eventually when everything gets ironed out and when the platform actually delivers on what was originally promised.

      What does Neural DSP do as a company that you hate?

    • @danielkongmusic
      @danielkongmusic Місяць тому +1

      @@RoddSantiago I feel like they mismanaged the launch of the Quad Cortex. It's okay to continuously add features but they really mismanaged expectations and it's taken them a long time to deliver stuff that was heavily implied to be there from day one like plugin compatibility. Lots of these issues stem from them being a small company, and so they essentially had to use plugins as a way to fund quad cortex development. It makes them a bit too reliant on hype-style marketing. And while some of the plugins they release are great, others seem very reiterative and seem to rehash a few amps + limited FX + maybe one special feature if you're lucky.

    • @RoddSantiago
      @RoddSantiago Місяць тому

      @@danielkongmusic agree with your quad cortex point but as you say they are a small company and even if some Pluggins feel somewhat redundant they are still making the best digital amps on the market for a really affordable price, they also have discount coupons, do sales every year and you can even sell the pluggins you don't want by just paying a transfer fee (which is WAY more that any company with digital products do), i really think they are a pretty decent company.

    I'm one of the few who do appreciate the clean tones, because I use pedals for my overdrive and distortion. I tend to use fuzz pedals more than any, and I tend to use fuzz pedals that work better with clean amps. I'll also stack it with a klon copy or some kind of distortion to tighten the fuzz up and add mids it usually takes out. Fuzz is extremely versatile and can be used for more than sludgy riffs (but lets get real, we love the sludgy riffs)

    I bought Toneforge Disruptor for the same money. Awesome amp sim: sounds great, low latency, doesn't eat much CPU and it costs 50 bucks. What else can you ask...

    I first picked up a guitar and took lessons when I was 8 years old... I, uh... I don't think I was thinking about getting laid then... I did start early, but I don't think that early...

    How well does it do on Bass ???? Every country by definition has country music. Country and Western maybe, maybe not.

    I tried a few of the Neural DSP amp sims a couple years ago and they were no different from the stuff I got from Audio Assault. I got the Sigma EX for like $15. I pair it with an IR from their Cali 4x12 Oversized pack, which is an oversized Mesa cab with a few celestion G12M Blackbacks/Creambacks. It sounds sick, and it can be heard on St. [b]Anger! I do like Aurora's Mammoth bass plugin though, that's my go-to for bass.

    Many years ago, a buddy of mine joked, "We got into this to get laid and we'll stay in it until we do." Well, he's happily married for 30-some years (and his wife is a sweetheart and beautiful, to boot) so maybe it worked for him since he went on to be a sound tech (one of the best I know), owner of a small sound reinforcement company, an electronics engineer, and a college prof, rather than continue as a musician. Only since Covid has he really gotten back into playing. And if I wasn't intimidated enough by his brains and skills, it turns out he's an unbelievable guitarist as well.
    But, actually, I started learning guitar at 10 so I can confidently say it wasn't to get chicks. That just turned out to be a side benefit of gigging starting in the late 70s...

    I bought the Mr Hector from AURORA a couple of years back. Great amp - not as good as the MLC_Zero - but different and quite good. I just hope for this one, the fixed optimized the CPU usage better, but the Mr Herctor is a hog. I guess you don't buy these for the FX but the time based FX were prety bad too, where Neural's are usually quite good, so you're getting a lot more , better FX for the extra cost as well.

    Plugin sounds good. I'll put it in the wishlist... I've got a crap ton already so nuance is definitely a desirable now 😅
    I picked up bass because some buddies were harassing me to do it because they wanted a bass player for their band.
    Ended up switching to guitar because I wanted to get more into song writing/producing afterwards.
    There you go... no chick were involved in making these decisions 😬

    I'm missing my dual rectifier I sold recently to help keep a roof over my head. I wasn't really using it in recent years cos I live in an apartment. The kind of apartment where I once got a letter complaining that I piss too loud, complete with instructions how to piss quieter. I wish I was joking
    So yeah, just amp sims at the moment. Always on the lookout for something better (maybe)
