this was an absolute joy to be a part of and i couldn’t be more thankful to you guys to leave that session a better drummer than when i entered it. thanks for helping us make a banger 🫶🏻
One thing comes to mind here...."The proof is in the pudding"... This formula works on every genre of band folks. Great video HCMS! I think this is the ultimate climax that can and should happen with an online teacher who has been teaching and promoting their techniques. If you have the cash and can get the full stack producer, it's going to fill in the blanks, and be worth every penny if you apply yourself to it. This was a pleasure to watch.
Oh so they were a real band. It all seemed like channeling everything down a pre used sound for everything that i thought it was just for the student to learn. There seem very little performance in the performances .
I recording off and on for years but mixes still a mess but after taking time away from it I’m now determined not for anyone else, but myself to make my mixes sound great was not a lot of UA-cam info for mixing back in the day but I love this channel. Hopefully one day I can do more of a hands-on class just like this.
Taking my first Pro tools 101 at my local community college-this was helpful especially when you are using the pro tools for your video project. nice title too added to my video watch later playlist on UA-cam
umm amazing job on the mix Jordan, this made me have flash backs from my studio days. Love this content, would have liked to heard or seen the bands response to the finished mix. That was always my favorite part getting to make the band happy with the results. Excellent Job!!!
Cool video! Thanks to all that participated. Looks like Jordan is a fun person to work with in the studio. I sometimes struggle to toe the line between ‘chill’ and giving enough encouragement to get the best performances out of people. The vibe in the recording session matters!
10 days late for a reply... but we all had an absolute blast and learned a lot sitting in with Jordan! If I'm Lucky was also a great band to work with, and all the guys were super friendly.
I'm sure it's a lot to produce, but I would watch this every week in a series. It's nice wish fulfillment for those of us who aren't recording in a studio, but wish we were. I realize we're only seeing a small snapshot, and I'm glad you didn't just show the easy parts, but I'm curious what you do to make the band members feel comfortable when they're performing under the microscope. I think you can hear that comfort level in a performance.
What ive really learned from this is that im always unofficially acting as a producer in my band. It can be a struggle as a drummer because sometimes you just gotta pick up a guitar and show someone something, and those dudes can get defensive about it lol
Que importante es el trabajo del productor cuando la banda le hace caso , todo funciona perfecto! Es como cuando se contrata al arquitecto para el diseño de la casa soñada!
The rhythm guitars were tracked through the Orange cab (V30's I think?) and a micro amp on the pedal board. The Lead guitars went through Neural DSP. The 5150 I think? And yeah, like @metaldeadman2441 said, the Mig didn't make the cut. It was too clean if I recall correctly, and we couldn't get enough gain out of it on it's own.
So you DiI’d the Bass & Guitars in the Control Room. As a small studio owner that’s how I work, but interesting to see you do that even in a Studio that has a Live room separate from the Control room.
A DI was captured in the control room but we also ran a speaker cable out to the cab in the live room. I can’t recall which made it on to the final track.
we ended up using the mic’d cab on the final track - jordan tweaked the analog sound to get close to the plug in we liked, but at the end of the day the warmth and natural sound from the cab was preferred
@@metaldeadman2441 A bit of both. Rhythm guitars used the Orange cab and the lead used the DI>Neural DSP. Bass was just the Sansamp if I recall correctly.
A series is a great idea because if you only show one band then you start to feel like this sound is the producers sound. Showing multiple bands would help the watcher separate the band’s style from the producer’s talent.
@hardcoremusicstudio Unrelated to this excellent video. I have built and equipped well, a small project studio principally for mixing and singer/songwriter type tracking. In the beginning do I give work away to build a catalog of demonstrable capability. Record and feature my own music. What’s the ground zero approach to getting work?
Both. Rhythms used the Orange can and an Orange pedal board amp (Orange Terror Stamp I think?) and leads used the Neural DSP with the 5150 model I believe.
I realize this is like a highlights reel of a few days - but I'm curious, on average, how many takes these guys were taking ..? At one point the guitarist plays a higher arpeggio-type riff and breathes out like it took a lot of work, but it looked like he just aced one take .. Asking as I've done production work for a long time, but in a smaller community so "preparedness" always comes into question and I'm curious about normal expectations
we went through a lot of different iterations on how we wanted that lead played, so there were a lot of takes just figuring out things like which notes should be palm muted, are we pedaling the root note between arpegiations, stuff like that. Once that was decided, it was a few takes to get clean. It’s not a super difficult lead, but it’s not a lead that’s easily broken down into smaller chunks so he had to get the whole part in one clean take so it did take a little bit.
check out those fills - that’s one or two takes each and some pretty impeccable timing. whoever their drummer is must be really good (and handsome too)
As one of the students, I don't believe Jordan ever voicing that opinion, and we were honest with each other-so I don't think your assessment is correct. :) Editing was pretty minimal actually - because Jordan had him play the parts repeatedly until he squeezed the best out of Daxon.

Definitely an amazing time.

It was awesome to meet and work with you all!
This needs to be turned into a new weekly or monthly series called "Making the Record"
That would be awesome :D

Jordan was definitely friendly, positive, and professional throughout. We really enjoyed sitting in with him and If I'm Lucky!
Sick video! More of these! Great to see the process
Wow the result is just amazing 👏 These guys are so lucky to learn from one of the best mixers out there.
Great result, would have been a blast to be there and see it all over the 3 days!

Well done. I was a HCMS member for a bit but couldn't afford the switch. I love the drums and that bass tone
Yeah this was a really cool video definitely different from what you normally release really enjoyed this and the song and mix where dope as well
This was rad. More of this
Really fantastic dealing with singers on the scary side of the glass. That is half the battle.
Sounds really good guys! Congrats!
Love that mayday parade song on the piano!!!
I used to freelance at Starke Lake Studios in the early 2000's.

This isn't a thing you go to school for. YOU LIVE IT!!
It's awesome to see this in action!! Reinforcing everything I've seen in PPS. Were you guys using that mig 50 for guitar tones?
We tried it out but ultimately didn’t use it on this track (it’s mine)

Awesome!! How the heck can I be a part of something like that!?!?
Wow, I Like this.
Very Cool!
sweet i love it
why did you used dynamic mic for vocal instead of condenser mic?? any reason ??
Beautiful! Will this song be included for members to mix?
LIKE YOUR SIMPLICITY..❤
So did you tune the snare to the song? Sure sounds like it.
How can i get the song ???
Hey Jordan, when you mentioned using a plugin when recording guitars to get in the ballpark... what plugin do you typically use or would recommend?
iirc he used Archetype Plini. (I’m the bassist and vocalist in this video)
Archetype Nolly!
this deserves more likes
Nice job
Was it a plugin or an amp in the final mix ??
Both. Rhythms used the Orange can and an Orange pedal board amp (Orange Terror Stamp I think?) and leads used the Neural DSP with the 5150 model I believe.

Was that the LockOn tuner that you had up while recording?
Dope

This session followed the same schedule I’ve used for many years - for each song, it’s 2 days for tracking + 1 day for mixing
I could tell when Jordan was watching the drummer he was like 🤨. He's a cymbal basher and gona need some editing. Lol.
he’s very self taught & getting better all the time 😂

There's just nothing like tracking in a real studio... oh man
personally i think the mix sounds a little too closed but well executed song, cheers
