  • In this video, my friend Trygve and I have an honest discussion and assess the Jad Freer Capo, a versatile bass pedal that can function as a DI, Multiple Preamps, an EQ, and drives. This is a fun and casual conversation for working bass players.

    This is the first video I've watched that actually made me want the Capo. I've seen a bunch of others but none of them have really gone through a bunch of different flavors that it's capable of. Unfortunately, now I want it. I recently recorded an album which cemented that the SVT is not a sound I like for what I do (I did like a V4 for my "default" sound and a B-15 reissue for some specialty sounds), but the Capo is definitely more of what I want to sound like. Please keep putting this stuff out, Philip, because this is exactly what I go to UA-cam for.

      I found a secondhand Joyo pedal, an "AC TONE" (Mic'd up Vox AC30 simulator guitar pedal) today going for £21.99. It's based on some kind of clone/analogue technology but it'll get you some fantastic bass tones like on this video for mere pennies 😊

    Philip, your videos are very pleasant to watch. It brings a calming mood. Everything has a good taste. I feel the sense of friendship with your bass buddies and I feel welcomed in the comments box and in the emails you reply. I was talking to another friend of mine (also brazilian) about your videos, and we are both a fan!

    Something interesting to dig into is the input impedance of DI boxes. Depending on the the bass you’re using, the input impedance of your DI can have a significant effect on tone.

      My 2 cents, I did the same upgrade the past summer. A different beast with many more sound options. The two switches on the Capo are much more usable together than the two on the TH. I also love the option to control the position of the effect loop in the preamps chain of the Capo and to bind it to the A switch. I won't get back to the TH for any reason at all.

    • @taylorhilyard8661
      @taylorhilyard8661 5 місяців тому +1

      @@supercolli nice. I really just use the tone hammer for the AGS grit so for my purposes it’s huge and def being under utilized. The capos options could probably kick a couple of other pedals off as well.

      I have no need for an Ampeg 50th Anniversary 2 channel 300 watt SVT head/ with 8X10 cab until my band gets signed/ or I’m doing music full time to pay the bills. For now I’ll stick with my 200 watt Orange AD200B and 1X15 cab, and a bunch of analog pedals on my pedalboard!!

    Really fantastic video guys. I got the bassrig last week, and it’s a little bit of love hate right now. Like, it for sure adds some mojo and thickness to my low end that I love, but simultaneously - I feel like I can’t dial out the scoopy mids thing no matter what I try. It’s like it dulls my attack and favors it to the highs only. I think I wish this pedal was able to tap into a little more of a b15 vibe rather than just the SVT thing. I’m a little torn on where to go from here. Capo definitely looks enticing after this, or maybe I try like a DCX or something with a little more of a mid aggressive sound going in. Curious if you’ve experienced the same kind of sterile mids thing with with the bassrig, and how you’re combating it if so?

    Nice video! If you can borrow a Laney Digbeth, I would love to hear your opinion. I'm a guitar player and can't invest in an expensive pre-amp. The Digbeth seems like a nice unit with aux in/headphone out... Ideally a BOSS-IR-2 Bass would be epic, but who knows if they ever will make one.

    Really great video. I'm a longtime b-15 / v4b lover who is trying to figure out a DI setup that gives me any of that mojo. I was about to pull trigger on a BassRig when I came across the CAPO. I don't know if this helped my decision or made it more complicated....but i guess i'll have to sort that out :)

    QUESTION: So I use a Whammy Pedal, but when it's turned on, it almost seems to have like a -10db drop; could I sidechain the Whammy into the Capo, and use that first channel on the Capo to essentially drive the output of the Whammy?

    I would really love to see a demo of this with an active bass! My main bass is very active, there isn't even a ground wire, and I've realized lately that I've got too much EQ going on. Stripped down to just a DG Harmonic Booster (2 band on my bass, this is for the mid control) and I've gone back to my Radial as well. I love my BDDI but the mid scoop is just... it's too much. Another thing is just shoving a lot into one enclosure always means sacrifices have to be made either for size, weight, cost, or all three right? I feel like the Radial is doing better than the BDDI is these days.
    Any other active bass users feel like this? I notice a lot of guys have EQ everywhere on the board; drive pedals, modulation pedals, seems like everything has a 3 band on it these days. Signal chains are getting insane and I'm doing everything I can do curb it lol.

    • @sharnoldpapa7339
      @sharnoldpapa7339 5 місяців тому +2

      Agreed. Especially with my active basses, it’s just too many gain stages. I simplify EQ and only usually do it at one place.

      The boost/comp is so nice and delay last makes it so pronounced when I want it

      Plus I get the snapshots to alter every control to get all my sounds at the perfect level for foh

      +1. I only play live, no recording, and the Stomp has been an utterly bulletproof and enjoyable rig for the last 2 years. I used to run it into a SansAmp Bass DI for some final tone shaping but since the release of the Noble/Regal patch I’ve ditched the Sans. Honestly, that patch is better in every way.

      one thing they didn't highlight much is that the capo has 2 FX loops, one before the pre and one after. So, you get 2 DI lines, 2 FX loops, switchable dirt + incredibly versatile EQ, all analog signal path. If you want something that gives you all of those options with top shelf build quality, it's not that much. You can go digital with an HX stomp or similar, but for analogue, I think it's a pretty good deal. It's also small shop/hand built, so the price point is pretty fair all thing considered.
