Wow I took my Asian squat for granted… squating seems so natural but others have to actually train to squat like that
I think all humans can squat (that deep) easily but westerns don't do it at all and they lose mobility and flexibility with time
Yeah as toddlers in the u.s. almost everyone could do this. With chairs being so commonplace and especially toilets not requiring you to squat you lose the flexibility and strength in the muscles required to deep squat. It was the same with me until Ive been training myself the last year to deep squat. And while it is still uncomfortable for more than 30 sec I can do it
Yea, I'm jealous a little but I'll get there hopefully. In the US, as the commenter above me noted, too much access to things that don't promote squatting.
Your ankles loose mobility if you don’t use them, the only thing our bodies do that needs more the 25 degrees of ankle dorsiflexion is squat, in the west you hardly ever squat, as there are chairs and benches everywhere, so your ankles tighten.

Slav squat is a deep squat with wide feet placement
Asian squat is the opposite
Deep squat with feet close together
if you can keep heels on ground squatted and also have your elbows on your knees (instead of triceps) then you're an Asian squat black belt. You need really good ankle dorsiflexion.
Asian has the biggest population therefore we will go with majority and call it asian squat from now on.

Honestly I was always baffled because squats are, you know,natural. You didn't need to be taught here. You tired, sit down. That's it. No such thing as Asian squat ability. It's a squat
in this video during squats, the two leg positions are far apart I can even do squats with my feet so close together (feet, ankles and heels touching)😅
Ive never been able to do it and never will. Genetics, I guess. I stretch every day, including squatting. Its impossible. I think some groups have longer Achilles tendons than others. Its literally impossible for me. Yes, I have European ancestry.

What the benefit of this squat?
How do they sit like this for 10 minutes or more? I feel it in my quads and lower back after 2 minutes and I hold that tension also in foot pressure constantly to protect my knees
I got used to it due to sheer poverty and there are usually no chairs when you hangout with your friends outside a small store, so you gotta improvise.

@@perotal ah, when you squat sit. Yeah it's a passive squat and not like a wall sit for example. I sat passively in a deep squat for 5 minutes and it was hard to get up again from that

Are you sure it is mainly stiff ankles that stop you from doing it ?
I read it is more commonly stiff hips that hold your body to the back (it is my case, highly flexible ankles, highly stiff hips and cant deep squat)

if your hips are too stiff it’s obviously going to also affect your ability to reach a deep squat, In more people stiff ankles are the limiting factor. for you hip mobility is more important

It increases pelvic floor pressure, thus easier 💩 pooping. That increased pressure could irritate existing hemorrhoids.
My father had haemorrhoids and mine came to life after a months of often staying in that position. So, no research from me, just case report.

@@m.w.r.1408 the drinking will help relax the muscles for greater mobility. That’s my excuse, anyway.
I did this between sets at the gym because of calf cramps. Six months later and I now have unparalleled hip mobility and can sit in this squat position for as long as I want anywhere completely relaxed. Also, no more calf cramps :)

in delhi.... you can't really find an apartment good enough with indian toilet built in.... one has to get it fitted on it's own expense... and once vacating out of it... shall install the western toilet back. 😅😅 that's a tiresome process.

In Poland We call it slavic squat. :)
In the UK it's also known as a slav squat I've never heard of it being called asian

I first heard about asian squat a few months ago, and it really surprised me because i realized that i have been doing this all my life since i was a child, and idk why because it's not a common thing at all here in France, in fact nobody do that

I don't have a lot of talent in lifting, but one of the advantages that I'm happy about is that I'm able to do this "Slav squat" or "Asian squat" very naturally. And it really helped me to put out some big numbers in squat ( in comparison with my bench and deadlift )

I have a hard time maintaining this position. After about 5 minutes I have to stand up as it starts to become unbearable. Any suggestions?
Same. After a few minutes, i feel it in tibialis muscles and have to stand up.
I never heard of this position being called the asian squat. We call it gopnik squat, slav squat and alike.
Also there is something called a fake gopnik (slav) squat, where you get in this position but instead of planting your whole feet on the ground you balance on your toes. This position is frawed upon. That is the Slavic law.

I dont struggle to get into that position. I struggle to get out without my lower back flareing up
Stretch your lowerback and decompress it, lay on your back on the bed, grab your feet and try to take your legs behind your head. I use to havr slipped discs and if I stood completely straight my lower back hurt and I also couldn't even squat to failure becauase my lowback hurt so much, I did that which I just described and cracked my back very loudly, my pain immediately went away by about 90% and the next day my lowback hurt like if I had trained it way too much, in two days the pain was gone and it didn't bother me again unless it's week 5 or 6 of training(and at that point it's just low back fatigue). I do that decompression plus stretch thing every day now and improved my lowback flexibility quite a lot, by laying on your back and trying to pull your legs behind your head not only you decompress your back but if you do it right you can feel the stretch in the muscle.
@@382u3uuej thanks alot for your kind answer! Atm im doing upward dogs for decomoression, but they dont help that much. I will definitly give it a shot. Do you grab your feet or flex just by muscletension?

I’ve seen some thin people able to squat like this with their feet nearly together. For a long time I wasn’t able to squat without falling backwards but after working on it like this I can do it!
