I just play games and talk on Discord, and i may wanna try taking up streaming with my friends eventually. I unfortunately cannot afford to get a whole XLR setup. What do you think i should go for in this list? I was looking at the Maono GamerWave and the Fifine MI1 before getting to this video, but I really don't know anything about mics. I looked up some sound tests for cheap microphones but nothing really made me decide.. my environment is a bit noisy as it has been a truly hot summer here (40°, 50% humidity) so i just have my fan pointed towards me, and winter gets cold so i usually have a heater on... so some kind of noise cancellation would be nice.
@@kwertie133 ended up getting the Maono DGM20s, s stands for the version with a mic arm. its nice, doesn't sound bad though you may wanna use a little bit of EQ. but if you're in a noisy environment, which i am, that's what you need
@@deko00 that's a condenser microphone tho, they tend to have worse "noise cancellation" than dynamic mics - but hey if that works for you that's wonderful
A6v if you can! Most condenser mics will have background noise concerns. If that is the main issue, consider an active noise canceling mic like the Maono DGM20 or a dynamic mic like the K688.
@@DaveSoltura yea i only live stream pc games and make videos on them and was debating on the fifine am8 and the k669d and a maono mic to last me until I get my elgato dx mic and their interface
Sir, you might want to try Samson Q2U, a budget dynamic mic that supports both USB and XLR. K688 was my first choice but I went with this instead, paid 3K for it in Lazada (with vouchers) ...and I think it's better?
Hi! The Q2u was my first usb mic ever! My concern with it is the gain range is quite weak, so it doesn’t get that loud. Do you think you’re getting sufficient volume out of it?
@@DaveSoltura Ah yeah, I think I had that problem at one point when I recorded vocals for music and I just let the effects do their thing to make my voice sound loud and I also just recorded a video for my school project using the Q2U with its USB functionality directly to my phone and I could say that it is actually pretty loud. I also bought the Teyun Q12 before, a recommendation from you, and I think I didn't notice any problem with its volume. Now I use an Arturia Minifuse 2 with it (bought cheaply with vouchers) and the quality is now even more wild for its price.
Hello! Just subscribed to your channel and Ive pretty watched your videos wanting to upgrade my maono AU-PM461TR. @@JemGarcia24 Both of those are very close in performance. Personally I would go with the AM8 because you can use it without an interface, then add an interface later.
I did have the fifine k658 way back when they first released it cause thats the only one dynamic usb mic and very cheap to so maybe ill swap it to pd200x or tank 3? What do you think?
Bro earlier u told me that pd200x ( with software ) is better than am8 , but now im confused which is best for me note i only use usb because of streaming purpose and also for voice over on gameplay videos
Hello! What would you recommend for games, Fifine A6V or Fifine AM8? In discord i could set up the noise gate and even though there will be noises when i talk, i think my voice will be louder than that. I dont plan doing any streams or video, just gaming and discord
Do you think the Fifone tank 3 would be a good pick for someone who sings and voice acts professionally at the price point? My budget is around 90 dollars, and I’m leaning towards the tank 3. Id love to hear about what you have to say about it.
For indie and smaller pro jobs, it’ll get the job done! Main benefit is noise rejection. The challenge is, you’ll need to be closer to get the best sound. For singing, if you like the sound, sure.👍
Hey dave! I just recieved my fifine am8, it's really good, but one thing thats bothering me is when I monitor my audio, theres this buzzing/static noise that you can hear. I tried it with the headphone jack and monitoring from the pc itself? I've tried different usb cables for it (2.0) and even recorded it through an iphone and it still had that same buzzing noise. Do you think its the cable or mic? If its the cable what would you recommend to do, thank you!!!
Have you tried a USB 3.0 cable? I haven't had a defective Fifine mic at the preamp level yet, but that is a possibility. Make sure to keep your phone or any other electronic devices away from the mic to reduce static. Put it on a box on your desk if you don't have a boom arm, just to create separation from possible interference.
Hi, thank you for this comparison, I don't know which one has the better sound ! Dgm20 or a6v. I want to start making content on UA-cam and this is my first mic. Can you help me to choose? Thank you very much
Hi Dave, I found your channel when I was searching for a dynamic microphone to elevate my streaming set up. I went with the Fifine K688. I just want to ask, is it normal for the mic not to pick up my voice unless I'm directly speaking to the mic, or it's 2-4in away and directed at my mouth despite 100% gain on the dial of the mic and on Windows. I'm currently running it via USB C. Should I try using a USB 3.0 cable to check if it improves gain?
Hello! This is a normal characteristic of a dynamic mic. You get great noise rejection, but you need to be near the mic. The alternative is a condenser mic, which captures your voice well from afar, but it captures more of the background. The Fifine A8 is great for that. But the K688 can still capture your sound from afar-if you use a high quality audio interface, like the Focusrite Vocaster One or 2. This is because it gives you more gain (volume) without introducing a lot of noise with it. Otherwise, to get the most out if it, you need to be close. Hope this helps!
@@DaveSoltura thanks for your input! I used to use the Fifine A6 which was a condenser mic, but I wasn't really satisfied with it since it picked up a lot of background noise, and using 3rd party noise suppression software increased my CPU usage especially when streaming. Do you think the SC1 or SC3 is a good enough audio mixer to run the K688 via XLR while giving me higher gain but still with good noise reduction? Because if not, I'm willing to save up for a better interface such as the Focusrite
@@YameSten No, the gain difference won’t be noticeable. I see the SC1/SC3 as first interfaces to work with the K669d, but not to improve audio on the AM8/K688.
@@DaveSoltura Ok thank you for your input! Looking forward to a tutorial video from you talking about how to set audio stuff out for OBS or other recording software soon!
Sounds like a plan! The Fifine K688 for a deeper voices, and AM8 for higher pitched voices. If you can afford it, you usually can't go wrong with the Maono PD400x which sounds the best in this roundup! Take note: you have to speak 2-4 inches away from (close to) the mic.

Hello Sir Dave! I have a question. I'm planning to buy either the Maono DM20 for 1080 pesos or the Fifine A8 for 1805 pesos. I find the Fifine a bit expensive, but I prefer its sound quality over the Maono DM20. The DM20 is okay, but I prefer the Fifine. I'll mainly use the microphone for adding vocals to my songs, occasional gaming, and for classes or meetings. Do you think the Maono DM20 would be sufficient? Also, I'm not impressed with its build quality. Huhu badly needed
@@Mr_Voyager-y6j I would say decent. :) It’s not a superb sound BUT it is about as good as a 5k usb mic from the 2010s. Just having a better noise floor and tone at that price is insane. Back then, you couldn’t even get a proper meeting mic for 1k. It still punches way above its weight class. PLUS you’ll enjoy having active noise canceling, which none of the mics in this tier list have!
I loved including the build quality in the comparison but not to the point making it more important than the actual sound quality! I prefer sound quality over the build quality which AM8 represents
Thanks for sharing! I do prefer the AM8 over the K669d sound-wise! This is why I mention that I ranked them in terms of getting a great deal. The K669 isn’t too far behind the AM8 sound-wise and even offers better plosive rejection. But the AM8 sounds better, in my opinion! You chose a great mic that meets your needs.
can you do one based on quality? like stay withing the reasonable price range, by that I mean under $200. It would make the perfect choices for people, thanks for the vids man I ordered the PD400x the other day
I would say, A tier in terms of value for money. It’s a great-sounding mic with many good features, but it isn’t even USB so it needs an interface, so you have to pay much more to maximize the sound. Sound-wise, I’d say S compared to the rest in the list! It would have the best plosive rejection of all the mics on this list, thanks to the pop-filter. You never ever have to worry about plosives when using it.
Hey, I've seen you reply most of the comments all though my comment is late I hope you will reply to it! I have quite normal voice I think between high- and pitched voice. If I want to sound with deeper voice (:D) which mic should I go with (plesae include fduce sl40 in your answer as well)? USB only thank you!
I was almost about to skip the part you talk about FIFINE A8 but I am SO GLAD that I didn't do such a thing cause it caught my eye SO MUCH and I will definitely buy the A8 SOON, thanks a lot for the video sir 🔥🔥
Just bought a pd400x for ₱5,010. Is this a good buy now or i should cancel? They also threw in a free XLR cable and MH-25 earbuds not that it matters lol
I can't decide between the K688, AM8 and PD400x. They all cost roughly the same where I stay... The only outlier for me is the PD100 which is REALLY cheap here in South Africa. I'm also considering the PodMic from Rode as that costs roughly the same here too... I already have a Focusrite interface for XLR so USB isn't necessarily a need but I'd like to still be able to use USB on the mic. Any advice? PS I am replacing my Samson Meteor and Fifine A6V as I prefer using Dynamic mics for my Voice overs.
@@alwynnienaber9021 Considet the Blue ember, which is a $99 now priced $54 on Amazon! Condenser clarity, but fullness of a dynamic. Sounds like it was EQd already and podcast ready. PD400x is still a great option. Larger than AM8 or K688.
As an owner of the fifine K658 & K688 + Maono PD200X, I agree with this ranking. ✨ But in terms of bit rate/sample rate PD200X (24-bit/48kHz) wins on this one vs the K688 (16-bit/44.1k-48kHz). 😂🫡 Surprisingly I still have use for the K658. It works when you connect it to your smartphone as long as you have an OTG adapter but I also agree that it is grainy but hey at least I don't need to setup my DAW on my laptop if I want a quick TikTok/UA-cam Shorts music recording when I can just direct the mic into the piano's speakers. It's a setup time saver. 😂
@@youknowwho9724 Short answer: it gives you more editing room. If you're a musician and you're into editing audio, you capture more of the sound that you're recording and you have more control on what you want it to sound like.
You need to test the Zoom ZDM-1. Its only $37.99 or less on sale (reg. $50 now I think) and IMHO beats all of the ones you've tested. XLR only however.
Thanks for mentioning this! It was about $120 when it was first released. Seems $37.99 or $50 is the Sweetwater price. Hope it becomes available on other stores at that price, too!
I love that you highlighted the PD400x as your top choice and explained why. There doesn't seem to be much hype around it, perhaps because it lists for over $100, but it is truly a quality microphone. And I'm also glad to see you give due praise to the AM8. There's something about that mic that just sounds so good. I also love the looks, and the build quality isn't an issue if you just don't touch it while speaking. XLR is slightly better than USB on the AM8, with less sibilance, but for around 50 bucks the AM8 is a versatile, great sounding mic.
Thank you! Yes, the PD400x is relatively pricey, but it sounds like a $300+ mic! The AM8 is still very special. Thinking about it, I may have hastily put it behind the K669d-if I had to choose between them, I’d still go with the AM8!
Where would be the Maono pd100u? I mean it has 24bit/192khz, a full metal body, comes with a stand, is dynamic and costs only 45€. I would say that the pd100u is even better than the AM8. I realy enjoy your Videos. You are realy the only one that talkes about these budget mics. ❤
Thank you for the kind words! I never really owned the PD100u, but a quck look at the feature set, and a quick listen would make me want to rank it a B, or Low A, in terms of value. It's a fantastic mic for the price. Though the lack of XLR expandability, and the lack of 0 latency monitoring is why I don't think it's as much of a steal. If you want to upgrade, you'd need to replace the mic entirely. If you ended up getting it, I don't think you'd be disappointed though! That's a great sounding mic at that price point! 24-bit/192 khz is also insane-- might as well be an audio interface.
I buy K658 a year ago and I'm so proud of that mic, but i cant understand why i buy it, when I should buy K688 I think I shoud buy K688 in the future Because i've got deep voice K658 makes my voice a little bit higher
Note: The Fifine A8 gets a special mention as best condenser microphone. But most people who don’t have studios at home are usually better off with dynamic mics, like the ones I mentioned.
@@DaveSoltura, is the AM8 good for recording vocals and covering songs? I like the A8, but background noise is a problem for me. The A8 offers good detail naturally because it's a condenser mic. However, I'm concerned that the AM8, being a dynamic mic, might make my vocals sound terrible. And also both mic are too expensive for me
Hi so I’m a UA-camr as well, I’m ingested in doing streaming and gaming and saw both the Fifine am8 and k668 for 40 bucks on alixpress, so I was wondering which one you would recommend for usb if they were the same price
At the same price, I would go for the K688 for build quality! They’re honestly too close in sound quality. You have more to gain by getting a mic that can take a beating, and reject rf interference better.
Great video! Specially for new comers to have a clear idea on what to look for. BTW, not sure if this is intended but your voice sounds too boomy.. maybe because my headphones (Sennheiser HD560S) make it sound like that. I'm sure those using more brighter headphones wouldn't bother
Thank you! Yes, I did eventually realize this was on the boomier side. Me trying to overcompensate for my scrawny voice. 🤣 There will be less, next time.
@@DaveSolturaoriginally I was looking between the am8 and the k688 as I wanted a usb mic, so I watched your comparison video. I preferred the slightly more warm and dark sound which was the k688 over the brighter am8 sound.
@@DaveSoltura From what I grasped..People just started to go with the "factory setting" even though editing these tiers ain't that hard, you can even save them.

Hi, I'm in a similar situation and very unsure on what to get too, did you make any decision?
@@kwertie133 ended up getting the Maono DGM20s, s stands for the version with a mic arm. its nice, doesn't sound bad though you may wanna use a little bit of EQ. but if you're in a noisy environment, which i am, that's what you need
@@deko00 that's a condenser microphone tho, they tend to have worse "noise cancellation" than dynamic mics - but hey if that works for you that's wonderful
I rly had a bad connection issue with the fifine a8. I tried everything but ended up returning it to fifine. The mic quality was really that good tho
Is fifine a6v working fine? Are there any Background noise issues? Should I go with K669b or a6v?
A6v if you can! Most condenser mics will have background noise concerns. If that is the main issue, consider an active noise canceling mic like the Maono DGM20 or a dynamic mic like the K688.
I want a microphone i can keep a arms length away to do sales calls with. Dont want the mic in frame.
Would the am8 be okay or what do you recommend?
Shotgun mics would probably be your friend but I only know of expensive ones
What interface would u use bc i want to get a xlr mic or what budget mic would u recommend
budget recording interface option is Arturia Minifuse 1. If livestreams and you don't do instruments, Focusrite Vocaster one.
@@DaveSoltura yea i only live stream pc games and make videos on them and was debating on the fifine am8 and the k669d and a maono mic to last me until I get my elgato dx mic and their interface
Oh i forgot to mention my current interface is the focusrite 2i2 from way back in the when the audio technica at 2035 was out
Sir, you might want to try Samson Q2U, a budget dynamic mic that supports both USB and XLR.
@@JemGarcia24 Am8 or PM1 for noise suppression. Can’t go wrong with either!
Thank you for the recommendation!!! May i know the difference of T669 and k669d? Is it just because of the usb and xlr difference?
@@JemGarcia24 t669 is condenser, k669d is dynamic. K699d has a higher ceiling for quality being xlr!
@@DaveSoltura so if I consider buying SC1 as an audio interface and the K669d, its much more worth it than the AM8?
@@JemGarcia24 Both of those are very close in performance. Personally I would go with the AM8 because you can use it without an interface, then add an interface later.

@@smail1066 am8 for better noise rejection!
For singing, if you like the sound, sure.👍
using only usb, how better?
@@DaveSoltura Okay, so I just need to use a usb3.0 to usb c. Hopefully it works
@@DaveSoltura do you think its the mic or the cord itself?
Hi, thank you for this comparison, I don't know which one has the better sound ! Dgm20 or a6v. I want to start making content on UA-cam and this is my first mic. Can you help me to choose? Thank you very much
Although I like the a6v sound by just a biiit more, the DGM20's noice cancellation will come in handy. That would be my pick!

Exactly one of its main benefits!
@@Mr_Voyager-y6j Get the A8 if possible. The benefits are worth it! But if the P800 could go into more helpful things, the DM20 is no slouch.
@@DaveSoltura would I still sound good if I use the dm20?
@@Mr_Voyager-y6j I would say decent. :) It’s not a superb sound BUT it is about as good as a 5k usb mic from the 2010s. Just having a better noise floor and tone at that price is insane. Back then, you couldn’t even get a proper meeting mic for 1k. It still punches way above its weight class. PLUS you’ll enjoy having active noise canceling, which none of the mics in this tier list have!
@@DaveSoltura how about the a8?
I loved including the build quality in the comparison but not to the point making it more important than the actual sound quality!
I prefer sound quality over the build quality which AM8 represents
Thanks for sharing!
I do prefer the AM8 over the K669d sound-wise! This is why I mention that I ranked them in terms of getting a great deal. The K669 isn’t too far behind the AM8 sound-wise and even offers better plosive rejection.
But the AM8 sounds better, in my opinion! You chose a great mic that meets your needs.
No Samson Q2U?
can you do one based on quality? like stay withing the reasonable price range, by that I mean under $200. It would make the perfect choices for people, thanks for the vids man I ordered the PD400x the other day
PD400x all the way, for most people. It’s on sale on Amazon right now at around $112, for a mic that sounds like a $300 mic even in usb mode!
Uhh... I wouldn't exactly say
Hi, Dave! Love how informative your contents are! Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Appreciate it, Mai!!
Would the BY M1000 pro be in s tier??

But in terms of bit rate/sample rate PD200X (24-bit/48kHz) wins on this one vs the K688 (16-bit/44.1k-48kHz). 😂🫡
Surprisingly I still have use for the K658. 😂
Sounds like a neat phone setup, Alec!! Glad you gave the K658 a new life!
Also… 24-bit Fifines are in the works!😁
Hello guys no idea what are the 16/24 bits, care to explain?
@@youknowwho9724 Short answer: it gives you more editing room.
If you're a musician and you're into editing audio, you capture more of the sound that you're recording and you have more control on what you want it to sound like.
Make more of these mate!
Wish I had more mics to compare!
I got my maono DM30 with boom arm for 2,400.00 php, was it worth it po ba?
Yes, worth it!😀
Where would be the Maono pd100u?

@@DaveSoltura, is the AM8 good for recording vocals and covering songs? I like the A8, but background noise is a problem for me. The A8 offers good detail naturally because it's a condenser mic. At the same price, I would go for the K688 for build quality! They’re honestly too close in sound quality. You have more to gain by getting a mic that can take a beating, and reject rf interference better.
