  • Join us for our final installment of Innovative Dental's Summer of Live as we place a Surgically Guided Implant LIVE!
    See what Innovative Dental does to provide a much more comfortable treatment experience for missing teeth. Most implants are placed with a free handed approach which requires a large surgical incision and the pain along with it. At Innovative Dental, Dr. O uses 3D Computer Guided Implant placement to avoid this process and give patients a much more comfortable procedure an a quick recovery!

    My dad was Dr. Jerry Soderstrom and he was one of the first members of the American Academy of Implant Dentistry to use 3D imaging and modeling to create plans for implant placement. He received the Isiah Lew memorial award in 2007 for his research. This is so wonderful to see this carried out. Thank you.

    My first two implants were around 2003 long before this existed. Last year I needed two more implants and one was very tricky to place. Without 3D imaging, it simply would not have been possible as it needed to be precisely placed to ensure it was correctly in the bone. It's amazing how much the technology has grown in 2 decades and it is a blessing we have this technology today.

    Thank you for these live videos. I’ve been a Dentist in South Africa for 5 years and starting with full-mouth rehabs using a fully digital work-flow like yourself. Instead of designing and milling these teeth I send them to a lab to design and fabricate as we only have one milling unit. Please do more of these live videos, as it helps us young dentists learn more complex and comprehensive treatment approaches.

    I just watched the implant video and it was super helpful. I’m getting my implant post next week and it helped me to see how it all worked! Thank you for making the video. It doesn’t seem to take long, and it looks way better than my extraction experience with a super loud instrument, that was disturbing. I had my mouth scanned recently, so I’m assuming they are (dentist) making the tooth. I like my oral surgeon, but this whole process has been very long…had to add bone, and there has been much wait time. Again, thank you! 😊

    All the video's I'm seeing from other dentists about implants look like they're being done freehand. It seems to make obvious sense to use a guide ring but you're the first I've seen using it. How can someone possibly line up an implant perfectly without a guide? It looks like you kinda get one shot at placing the implant, wouldn't you want something that's foolproof?

      Guided is always a good option when you can. For large cases with significant bony reduction it can be tough to use a guide because we have to change the superficial landmarks. Just know that you can grab a radiograph after the first twistdrill to confirm angulation and placement before you enlarge to the implant size. It's not hard if you've done enough of them.

    Thank you Dr. O. I was really worried about have implants and some surgeries and I was praying many years that the Lord will help me with my problematic teeth. I am from Europe and all these treatments are too expensive for me... there is no way that I can travel to USA to get this treatment, but the worst was that I had in my mind that this is unacceptable treatment... My dentist sent me already few times to visit dental surgeons for checking and treatment, but I was worried that it is too painful, too dangerous, too scary... I have to say that God really opened my mind with these videos and showed me, that He wants to lead me through this and it would not be scary... :D And now I am even excited, filled with the joy and peace of the Holy Spirit. I have alredy got CT scan which is showing also problems with bone lost... but I have total peace that God is with me and He will sort it out. I am not worried anymore and I trust to my dental surgeon that whatever he will decide that is needed for me, that it will be ok. When I saw these videos it showed me that this type of treatment could be possible for me, but when I saw you praying, it totaly blowed my mind and now I know that this is where the Lord is with me and he will solve everythink. :) God bless you :)

    I had a oral surgeon who cleaned out a infection where I was going to have an future implant put but he decided to clean it out and put the implant in that same day. I’m not an oral surgeon but I thought that was a real bad idea and it was. That implant caused so many problems, numbness in my lips, chin, pain and discomfort then eventually the loss of the implant. That implant wanted out of my mouth so badly, one night while taking a shower I was standing there just letting warm water fill my mouth to relieve the ache it was giving me, the implant literally started rising up from the depths of my jaw and I spit it out seconds later. It was the craziest most unbelievable thing I think I ever experienced, in the shower anyway.

I truly need a lot of work from a bridge on one side, no teeth on the other side. lol, I'm sorry, I was never taught to take care of my teeth until I married. That was 36 years ago, since then we've spent a lot on crowns but now I'm learning crowns rot. The tooth is dead.

    Know this may not be great for your practice but I went to University of Michigan for my dental work. Extraction of 13 teeth, two lower front implants, gum grafting around those implants, and full set of dentures. I had dental insurance too. Total cost ( including insurance paid) was between 4,000-5500$. (Forget exactly, had help from family). Outside private dentist was up to $19,000 . Yes that is correct. My insurance covered 2000$ of UofM cost. It takes time, time, time (months/ 2 years) but well worth it.

    My daughter, age 24, just had 15 implants done 12 days ago. They extracted her teeth and her 3 remaining wisdom teeth and put the implants and temporary teeth all in the same day. Her bone was all good and she didn't have any infection. 6 months or so and they will put her permanents in. My question is whether it is normal for her to still have excruciating pain in her lower left jaw and what could be the cause of this. She wakes up crying in pain. Her surgeon didn't seem concerned but I am a little worried. I haven't seen any implant stories that mention this.

    • @shibbyy420
      @shibbyy420 5 років тому +6

      Depends.. do you need an extraction or is the tooth missing already? Is the tooth infected? If you have a tooth still, they can take out the tooth and put the implant in the same day unless it’s infected then we usually pack some synthetic, cadaver, or bovine bone in the socket along with a membrane over the bone to allow for a better implant in the future. That healing process takes 3-6 months. Then they put the implant in and wait 2-6 months for the implant to integrate with the bone (osseointegration) then we uncover the implant and put a healing abutment for 2 weeks to contour your gums. Then we take an impression of the implant to have a crown and abutment made which take 1-2 weeks from the lab. Then we put on your new tooth. It’s a long process! 4-8 months with a missing tooth or immediate placement of implant.. or 6-14 months with an infected tooth that needs bone grafting. Hope this helps.. good luck!

      @@shibbyy420 So my dentist said I'm going to need to still use my flipper until its healed for the crown to be screwed into is there an other option because I honestly don't know how thats going to work out for me

    • @shibbyy420
      @shibbyy420 4 роки тому +1

      J J there is always another option but they all have pros and cons..
      option 1: if there is a tooth on either side of the missing tooth; ask them about a temporary bridge until the implant is ready to restore. The pros are that you will have a FIXED Pontic where the tooth is missing instead of a removable flipper. The cons are that it destroys 2 or more potentially healthy teeth.
      Option 2: if you have at least one tooth next to the missing tooth. Ask about a temporary cantilever bridge until the implant is ready to restore. This is the same pros as option 1 and the cons are that at least 1 potentially healthy tooth is destroyed.
      Option 3: wear the removable flipper. The pro are that it’s cheaper and less invasive but the cons could be countless from speech changes to sore spots to looseness.
      Option 4: this will require some finesse from your dentist but if you have to adjacent teeth next to the missing tooth; ask about a bonded fixed retainer (like they use for people who finish braces to keep their teeth in place) the dentist will bond or glue a wire to the back of the adjacent teeth and in the area that the tooth is missing, a Pontic or fake tooth is glued to the wire as well. The pros are that it’s fixed and non invasive as they can unglue the wire when the implant is ready for the crown. The cons are only pricing which is may or may not be an issue for you. All in all, I don’t know your case and this is mere speculation but you should ask your dentist 3 questions: Is a fixed retainer, like the ones they use for braces, with a Pontic an option for me? If not, is a temporary, 2 or 3 unit, bridge an option for me? And if not, are there any options besides the flipper that may work for me? Good luck.
