Hello Dan, Would you mind telling me whether we can use UNLESS to replace IF in unreal present and unreal past conditional sentences (Types I and II)? Examples: 1. If he didn't have money, he couldn't buy this book. >> UNLESS he had money, he couldn't buy this book. 2. If it hadn't rained yesterday afternoon, I would have gone to the music club. >> UNLESS it had rained yesterday afternoon, I would have gone to the music club. Thank you very much in advance!
Yes, we can. However, in your second example, we would be more likely to say something like "I would have gone to the club unless it had been raining". While we can use 'unless' in the past tense, it is less common than using 'if' and can sometimes sound a little odd.
At this point, he's talking about the option of taking the bus which would take him 25 minutes (but, he's going to have to wait for the next one to arrive and he doesn't know when that will be).
You really have a vocation to teach. Continue with your good mood!
Unless Dan is such a fantastic teacher, we won't be able to learn that.
Thank you. That is what i want to know.Short video but very effective.
