I didn't have much time for watching One Piece, So I started watching during drinking coffee or working out at the gym. Intially it felt boring and too goofy villains to care about them but Luffy and his dream of becoming pirate king intrigued me and I kept watching. I started enjoying One Piece during the water 7 arc and fell in love after ennies lobby, became addicted after Impel Down then became obsessed with it after Marineford. Now after reading the recent chapters i.e upto 1103, I think watching One Piece was the best decision of my life. *Those who have not seen One Piece or not upto episode 235, you guys are really missing out the greatest peice of modern media*

Hilariously, it was Syrup Village that hooked me. I loved Usopp as a character, and I have a weakness for villains with black hair and glasses. And then it just kept getting better after that and now I am a lifelong fan. My friend, on the other hand, had the same reaction as you at the same point as you. Mind you it was in the live action iteration, but she has moved onto reading the Manga and I think she is genuinely enjoying it from how she talks about what she is reading.
I don't even remember WHY I started watching one piece. I started about 2~3 months ago, just on some random day where I said fuck it, I'm going try an anime (I usually HATE anime) and chose one piece. As soon as I saw Buggy, and realized the type of show this was I was so hyped. I have just as of typing this caught up to the latest episode of the dub
