  • Today we're jigging looking for walleye and trout! I'll be running the flexi-jig with a white artificial twister tail and Antonio is using a T-Turn bait rig with live minnows.
    When is the right time to use a twister tail, or a thumper tail, or a straight tail like what's found on a finesse fish? We talk about jigging tips such as that, and what colour is right for the right time.

    Nice to see someone actually keep a steelhead. I've seen so many dead steelies caught in cold weather that don't make it. Might as well enjoy them instead of seeing coyote's and martins eating dead one's on the shore.

    I live in Northern Ontario on the north shore of lake superior. I could really taste the difference in fish caught from southern Ontario and our clean pristine cold water lakes up here. Pickerel for example had a muddy strong taste from fish caught down there. Here the meat is firmer and almost has a sweet taste no strong gamey taste at all. The same with our Lake trout from inland lakes. We enjoyed the action down there but would not eat the fish after our first encounter. Too much pollution and of course warmer waters.

  • @nicholasingram4923

    any advice for a small boat on an inland lake with perch? My 8-year-old son and I want to try the jigging spoon sting nose? what size line and type should we use?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  2 роки тому +1

      if you are fishing 20 feet or less, suggest using the 3/16 or 1/4 oz Stingnose - size 3/8 or 1/2 oz if deeper...use the silver on sunny days/clear water or the gold in stained water or cloudy days :)

  • @jacobpalkin5079
    @jacobpalkin5079 7 років тому

    I know this is for walleye and trout but I do a lot of carp fishing in Northern California and I was wondering if you would use a bite and run reel or a standard spinning reel for more versatility? A bit off topic but I do like to run my t-turn with corn and was just curious.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 років тому

      Hi Jacob - a bait feeder reel is great to use when using a Bolt Rig or a sliding rig, however, the standard spinning reel can easily be used in those cases as well, by just loosening up on your drag :) So the standard reel will work just well for you and stay tuned as we plan on doing some carp fishing soon :)

    Caught some nice Walleye on your Gold 1/2 oz. Stingnose Jigs along this stretch over the past few weeks. I ordered and used 1oz. Flexi-Jigs however the hooks look way too big. Used 3/4 oz. other brands and did well. I like the design of the Flexi-Jig just felt the hook on the 1 oz. was too big for this fishing application. What size are you using in the river? Thanks so much; Dave.

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  5 років тому

      ...totally agree - the 1 oz would be too big in that case...we used 1/2 oz Flexi Jig and now, we have 3/4 oz Flexi Jigs available (new item) and that would be even better :)

      Hi James.....the whole shoreline is very fishable - just be prepared to fish in strong currents :) I was using a 1/2 oz Flexi Jig, in order to ensure I maintained bottom contact

  • @thesonorandesertangler

    Im having a hard time rigging zman plastics on the flexi jig. The elaztech material just bounces back on the shaft where the wire wraps around. Any tips for zman plastic rigging on the flexi jig?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  7 років тому

      yes....I can help....the keeper spring on the shaft will grip your plastic and will not let go - it's actually much better than the traditional keeper - the key is once you get to the keeper spring, "thread" your plastic onto it by twisting it around and you will notice a huge difference :)

    I cant believe a rainbow took that jig. lol, youve got luck like Ive never seen before

      Gordon Mohr hits very common for this to happen in larger rivers such as the Niagara. It mimics what they're eating. Definitely wouldn't work in the creek

      Ive fished the Niagara for years , mostly with size 12,14 hooks. never seen anyone land a rainbow on a monster jig hook like that.

      Hi Gordon - glad you enjoyed this episode and jigging for rainbows can be very effective at times :)

    I’d be a lot more comfortable watching this if you guys were wearing Mustang PFD’s in your new boat....what’s the water temp that day? 10C? You not only have a responsibility to your viewers to set a good example, but also to your friends and family to return home at night with a pulse! Otherwise, a very good instructional video on jigging presentation to active fish. Thanks, and God bless.

    Can you fish from shore there ?

    • @thundermistlures
      @thundermistlures  6 років тому

      you can but there is a very strong current....you can fish close to there by going to the parking lot beside Nicholls Marine in Fort Erie - free parking and easy access to the shoreline and the water is much more fishable there - good luck :)
