I ordered the exact same one a week ago, arrived yesterday, I opted to modify & fit it to my own Mavic 2 Pro RC unit myself as I already have the Smart Controller, wasn't too difficult to do, weather has been awful here in the UK since I did the mod so haven't even had a chance to test it fully yet, but seems a great piece of kit.

Good to see as I am about to stick the Duo 2 on a V2 Autel Smart Controller (dual band) - One note: The MA2 antennas are in the front legs, not on the back. Thanks for this break down!
This was really useful in making a decision. I have a question, if you don't mind sharing your thoughts on a specific parameter of Alientech Amplified Antenna Units: Do you find it to be highly directional? I don't mean that it has to be pointed at an extremely tight angle on the horizontal/vertical plane, more that you can't have the Alientech unit facing 80 or 90 degrees away. If I face sideways instead of directly at the drone, will the signal be really compromised, partly compromised, or is there no noticeable loss of signal. I can handle the loss of say, 1 bar from not facing the drone, but if it drops precipitously, that is a concern. This is no matchbook sized add-on! We all have times when we aren't oriented correctly. Hell, I got up this morning COMPLETELY disoriented!
Seriously though, I don't want to see disconnects when I turn around for some reason, though I doubt that would be likely to occur. I take responsibility for using gear the way it was designed. I assume it is more directional than a pair of decent antennas are, , even it the range is greatly increased.

@@DronePsyche Hello DronePsyche, I just want to share about my experience. I have DJI Smart Controller installed with Alientech Duo 2.4 & 5.8 gHz non power, installed at DJI local hobby shop in here in Indonesia. I already tested and it's works good, long range distance better than the stock antenna. Either I setting the Transmission keep in DUAL, 2,4 gHz or 5.8 gHz,with Auto or Manual, its good to go.
After several times I use it, I met my friends who have a Alientech Pro 5.8 gHz booster, powered with 2 of 18650 batteries.
Then I try the Alientech Pro 5.8 gHz booster to my DJI Smart Controller that already installed before, a pigtail with QMA female conncetors, that fits either to Alientech Duo non power or Alientech Pro 5,8 gHz powered.
When I switched power on both DJI Smart Controller and Alientech Pro booster 5.8 gHz, on the DJI GO4, I switched the Transmission to 5.8gHz and choose manual.
I use Mavic 2 Zoom to fly. When first arming, is good, nothing happen. But when I try to hover about 10 meters height and distance just about 5 meters, it begin to strange happen.
There was a notification on the upper left DJI Smart Controller screen, the signal is frequently appear LOST SIGNAL. So when appear notif LOST SIGNAL, I cannot controlled the aircraft. Luckily, the smart controller was able to reconnect to the aircraft and can land safely.
Berfore, I already used ALientech DUO 2,4 / 5.8 gHz non booster, and it works good, either I set the Transmission to 5.8 gHz Manual or Dual, nothing happen like this LOST SIGNAL.
Is it the Alientech PRO 5,8Ghz booster powered by battery, not suite for DJI Smart Controller ?
I have consult this matter to Alientech team, they seemed confused too, and finally they consulted DJI.
This is the answer from DJI to Alientech:
"The signal power is limited due to the 5.8G environment in Indonesia. When the system checks that the 5.8G power exceeds a certain value, the system will adjust the output value.
You may try to fly the drone a certain distance and then turn on the 5.8g booster.”
That was what DJI answer to Alientech.
According to the answer, that I must fly the drone a certain distance and then turn on the 5.8 gHz booster, is it logic ? When just hovering the aircraft with power booster on became Lost Signal, how come if the aircraft already far away and then I switch on the power booster on, is it will more LOST SIGNAL ?
As far as I know, in here (Indonesia), restricted to use 5.8 gHz. And inside the DJI app will do that restriction.
This is the statement from Alientech website : (alienth.cn/blogs/refit/how-to-choose-alientech-duo-antenna-and-pro2-4g-5-8g-booster )
“The radio management requirements of your region or country, for example, North America, China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Thailand, etc. can use 5.8G; but in most European countries, Japan, Singapore, Indonesia, and other countries 5.8G is restricted or not used.”
But I have did using the Alientech Duo non booster with set up Transmission to 5,8 gHz Manual, its works good and can flew long range in suburban environment, but when using the power booster 5,8 gHz, why LOST SIGNAL during just hovering the aircraft ?
Regarding to your GREAT video reviewing using Alientech DUO II 2.4 / 5.8 gHz power booster, I plan also to have it, but still confuse and doubt to have it, I’m afraid to have same problem SIGNAL LOST like booster 5.8 ghz that Ive tried on my DJI Smart Controller.
Maybe you or someone can give me advise and suggestion. Or maybe somebody got the same experience, may also share.
Thank you very much, and apologize for the long story.

I have similar range issues with my Mavic 3. I can get to about 4,000' and that's about it. I just ordered the boosted version of this antenna for $400 (without the controller). I'm hoping that will let me get to 8-10 thousand feet.

I actually installed my own Alien Tech antenna booster on my original Air 2S controller. I ended up sacrificing another controller from eBay for parts! I am a electrician and I would never ever do this install again! Now, when I change controllers! I have to calibrate the controller each time, because I lost control of my drone one time!!!!! The drone would not respond! It, crashed about two blocks away! I had to climb a fence to get it back! Now, I know to calibrate the controller to the aircraft before flying!!! I have flight's over 9,000 feet in Saint Petersburg Florida!! I also have three airports near me!!!

That should not be the case. This is why I had them install it for me. Too complicated and you can damage the antenna inside. When I went to the Florida meetup in March I was surprised
to see two other Alientech installations and all of us were very pleased with it!

its built in and its 450 bucks plus tax... freaking way to expensive you can do the same thing with 2 antennas 2 boosters abouit 250 bucks half that cost the boosters are the most expensive about 99 bucks each then the sma connectors the 2.4 is only like 40 bucks for a powered booster.. i dont iknow whty it costs double the price

    • @DronePsyche
      @DronePsyche  3 роки тому +4

My option was not $450. As I explained in the video, I did not want to void the controller warranty or perform the very complicated installation. Instead I opted to purchase both the antenna AND a brand new controller already modified from Alientech. The average person does not have the technical skills for the DIY project you suggested so for those people, this is their option.

Why is it when ever someone comments they can achieve almost the same result on their machine without spending a ridiculous sum of money, along comes someone else saying ' no you can't ' or ' not in my hometown you won't ' 12,000 ft is good but not that great, I can reach 10,000 ft with my own modified controller total cost around $10......and that's in a very built up city. I would advise anyone thinking of laying out that amount of cash to save it and get a larger Drone. Better still learn how a Drone flies and mod it yourself for next to nothing.

Better yet, become a real pilot and fly FPV and build your own drones like I did. Also I went 21,000 feet with that old Mavic Air 2 and the Alientech antenna. Guess you didn't see the video card at end of review. Beat that with your $10 MacGyver mod in NYC.
