    Ms. Marie, thank you for the useful video tip in chayote growing. Quite helpful, practical and no dramatic nonsense like most "how to grow" videos. I am hopeful now that I should be able to grow it with your tip. Guess the hard part now is finding a store with chayote and the subsequent wait for it to sprout. Hopefully it's not too late since it's already the 16th of February.
    Again, thank you for the tip. From Orange Park, Florida who used to live in Memphis.

    Hi, Marie! Thanks for videotaping how to grow Chayote! Quite entertaining, enjoyed watching it very much. I do want to know how you situated them inside, how much light you provided them, how big they were by the time you set them outdoors...
    I live in zone 5a/5b and don't have the luxury of a long growing season. But, I'll give it a shot. Along with the Sayote, I also intend to plant Ampalaya.
    Thanks again for imparting with us your knowledge of gardening.

      Hi what zone are you in? I live on zone 7. Not safe for planting tropical veggies including chayote just yet. Around 3rd week of April is safe. You can start your seedling or sprouting chayote indoor. Get or buy a chayote, let it mature and wait for the shoot to come out.

    • @wellnessandcountrylife
      @wellnessandcountrylife  3 роки тому +1

      Hi! Yes, you can cut or prune the vines shorter so they don't grow out of control inside your house. The more you cut the ends, more shoots will grow. Soil must be moist not dry

    I’m in zone 6B and will try to grow it indoors. I just bought Chayote in a Farmers market and want to save the seeds and grown them indoors so I can transplant them in the spring time. Does it need fertilizers when growing indoors? How long once they are transplanted in the Spring ?March or ?April will they fruit?

    • @wellnessandcountrylife
      @wellnessandcountrylife  2 роки тому

      Hi yes, transplant them in late spring. Watch out for frost it will kill it. If you protect or cover the base and the plant itself it should survive. It takes about 5 to 6 month before you can see fruits. If you have short summer, a greenhouse is your best plance for chayote

  • @jeanajett2719

    I also live in Tennessee! I'm trying to grow chayote for the first time this year. Mine looks like yours do in this video but I'm just now planting it in April. Will it still have enough time to grow fruit? I know you said 5 or 6 month but I believe you said You potted yours in December that's why I ask.

    • @wellnessandcountrylife
      @wellnessandcountrylife  2 роки тому +1

      Hello! If you start now, you may have a few fruits later, but not a lot. Ideally, in zone 7 it's better to have the chayote plants growing with with some vines and leaves, indoor, then you can transfer in the garden when it's warm enough post-frost. Young chayote leaves are great for eating, you can harvest and eat them also.

    I’m waiting for my chayote to mature on the kitchen counter. But it is getting moldy. What should I do about the mold?

    • @wellnessandcountrylife
      @wellnessandcountrylife  2 роки тому +1

      Hi what color is the mold? If the mold is in the crack, it's possible that moisture or water sat in it and caused mold growth. And if the chayote it very young it takes longer to grow shoots, making the crevice part soften and mold. Just wait a little bit. Try putting the.chayote near a window where it get some sunlight. I hope this helps.

Early morning or late afternoon when it's not scorching heat. Overhead watering can damage the leaves/plants when done mid-day and during hot hours.

    • @wellnessandcountrylife

      Zone 5 maybe too cold for the smooth-kind chayote to bear fruits. The spikey bears fruits sooner. It will take a while for the chayote to germinate. You must get the hard-skinned from the grocery store it is more mature and will germinate quicker. The younger or the softer the skin it will germinate later
