Husband thought it would be a good idea to plant ivy at our previous home. Several years later, I pulled it out by the roots to be sure it was finally gone. Hate hate hate ivy. Thanks for showing the damage ivy causes to trees.
I love learning about the trees from Nick, he really knows his stuff. Tree area will be amazing when he is comfortable that all the dangers have been addressed and the young saplings get enough light to grow properly.
Sitting here in Florida watching you bring this building back from a precarious life into a home again. You have my respect and admiration because you are doing a fine job. Nick is a fine man and i am so happy he is helping you sort out the trees. I can't wait for the progress!
I'm sure seeing the trees that need to be removed hurts but a long term, healthy forest has to be the vision. Your doing a fantastic job. Someday in the future there will be lovely paths to enjoy the beauty of your woods.
Spring is such a glorious time of year. It holds the promise of a wonderful summer! You are so fortunate to have a friend in Nic!....the quiet, confident genius!
I love the way Nick explains the benefit of removing a hollow tree and the detriment if it is not removed. I'm one of those people " ohh lots of nice greenery" I am getting an education as well as seeing the beauty. Hugs
The grass is always greener over the septic tank, too bad it is on the other side of the fence (property line). Nick and and Cameron doing an amazing job, pure joy watching you all work. See ya tomorra🙏🏼❤️
There might have been a common septic system for the château and the gate lodge and since the lodge is much further down the hill it would have made a lot of sense to put the system somewhere near the lodge.
Another beautifully shot blog and it’s wonderful watching the dream team at work. Nic is so knowledgeable and I feel that I’m learning a little bit about trees from him 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Dan, the clearing up outside was epic. You all did so well. It's so sad about the ivy damaging that maple. I'm so glad that Nic knows about these things. Cameron is also a big help with trees and everything. Cheers to you all. 😍
Greetings Dan from the middle of the USA. My state is loaded with trees so I'm just so interested in learning all about the trees. Nick & Cameron are two good guys to have on your side. Your forest is just so beautiful, be safe.
I knew Ivy did damage on buildings but now I have seen what it can do to fully mature trees by totally destroying them from the inside. Thank you Nick I have learned so much regarding woodland management and safety watching you. Dan you are learning every day something new, and now Septic tank plan B in focus. Well done Dan, Nick and Cameron and thank you. 💕🇦🇺
Greetings from Nova Scotia 🇨🇦. Wonderful to see you and the “tree” guys working together. They are very skilled and seem to add knowledge and confidence to the situation. Continued progress with safety Dan!♻️🌲🔨
I had 54 tons of that crushed stone/cement mix put down over a stone road...you're going to love it. That big maple had its day, take it down before it does damage. Great that Nick knows so much about trees.... applauding your efforts ad=nd hard work from NW Georgia, USA.
What can't Nick do he pretty handy with the machines looking so much better now it's been flattened and the gravel squashed down . Well done Dan the man and the team .loved watching see yer tomorrow ❤
Cameron speaks! 👏 Dan is truly fortunate to have Nik and Cameron to help. Somehow, I think arborist school didn't include septic tank hunting and concrete footings, but these guys didn't seem to mind helping. Every time I watch them trimming the trees I think of old tales of woodsmen - a trade we can't relate to these days. They also remind me a lot of Robin Hood tales as they know the forest so well and how it works. Their art takes skill, knowledge, sensitivity, great strength, and courage. When they are in the trees it's like a circus high-wire act, with no net, and not as safe. I so admire their knowledge and skill! I suspect there aren't many like them around for Dan to have found for love nor money.
Dan I know you must be paying Nick and Cameron you all three are not afraid of a day full of hard work. I so appreciate all Nick and Cameron are doing to help you.
Dan, the Cheatue is coming along so well! Nick is really helping to move the project the along quicker than by yourself. Only 1 more Dan see how quick 100 videos went, and we know you love it as we love you!
Regarding not finding a septic tank: at least in Italy, it is common that the sewage of property in higher area's just discharges at about 10 m. downhill, and so often drains and sinks on another's property.
Excellent tree husbandry. So sensible and good to see. Nick is great at his job and so knowledgeable. Good one Dan. It would be terrible to do the hard work and have your place taken out by a tree. The gravel looks great. Have a good sleep. Thank you. May you please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤❤❤🤩🤩🤩
Beautifully shot vlog as always, Dan.. love all of your interesting camera angles & artistic forest pics. You go to so much effort to produce these & we really appreciate it. You are all doing an amazing job at the château. Cheers from Oz! 😊
And in addition to my last comment, I absolutely love the progress again today, all of the shingle being laid... I smile bigger and bigger with each video!
Bonjour. J'ai suivi vos conseils concernant la traduction et enfin je comprend. Magnifique travail que vous effectuez, bon courage à vous et à ceux qui vous aident.
Nik is doing a great job there , taking out all the dead and dying wood and opening up the landscape , and I agree , remove Ivy from trees wherever possible , great work ladz
I know logically there are other things that take priority but my little squirel brain badly wants to see the stairs being preasure washed. idk why but it really wants it
😂… moi aussi j’aimerais voir ces escaliers totalement propres, avec le nettoyeur haute pression ! C’est toujours très satisfaisant 🤭 !! Mais ce n’est vraiment pas urgent 😉
Dan, honestly your filming is incredible....... loved the close ups of the insects on the leaves. Fabulous job to see and hear Nick with the tree management and that shot of the ivy on the tree..... who knew the damage it can do. Great work clearing the roots and forming a good base at the front of the chateau and well done to keep smiling thru the rain. ✅✅✅✅✅✅✅
Beautiful forest shots; great drone footage of the gravel pit; bobcat ballet grading and removing spoil Another great vlog at the chateau. Highlight of my day!
Evening Dan, loved that image you showed at 5:58 - had to google it to find out what it was. The red bits are leaf galls - amazing the things you f9iind out about. Loved listening to Nick's knowledge on the forest and how to care for it. See you tomorrow 😉
The cinematography and editing of your recent videos is superb! WOW! And it’s wonderful to see a buzz of three of you on the site! I am also a huge fan of Nick since he first appeared on Stephanie’s channel and I so enjoy watching him in action! Can you please let Nick know he has a huge fan in Australia please! ❤️
First, second, third, one hundredth, doesn't matter, it's good, lol. Dan, you'll have to dedicate something to Nick, his offsider & Cameron ? in the Chateau for their extensive & valued help in the restoration !
And the thought of people wondering round uninvited! The sheer cheek! Glad you are closing down the entrances! I think people should want to help in official ways, not be hindrances!
Luving the journey Dan, I think you’ve been doing really well as most projects the wheels are always falling off and as ever, “I’ll see you tomorrow!” 👍
I love watching you bring this building back to life! Your attention to every detail is a joy to behold. Have you considered using a pastry-bag method to pipe the lime into the gaps around the boards rather than trying to spoon/wedge it in with a trowel? You could then use the trowel to smooth it out. I'm not sure how thick/dense the mix is, but if it's anywhere between the consistency of thick cake icing and an extrudable soft modeling clay, then gallon-sized disposable freezer bags with a bottom corner cut off would probably be plenty sturdy enough to serve as "pastry" bags for the lime mix, and to apply, you'd simply trowel the mix into the bag through the top, then point the cut-corner opening into whatever hole you need the lime in and squeeze. If it works, it would likely go a lot faster than scooping bits in with a trowel a little at a time.
I have thought about this as I decorate cakes. The problem with piping bags is refilling them. It's messy and interrupts the work flow. I plop a pile of frosting in a line onto a piece of plastic wrap, roll it up, snip off the end, and put the "plug" into the piping bag to refill it. It's a lot quicker and less messy that way. I don't think you can do that with mortar?
I appreciate these sessions with Nik. It's informative and interesting to learn more about the health of your woodland and about its dynamics. It's interesting to see the equipment, the tools, the process. Good stuff.
Bravo à vous trois pour le travail fourni et comme on dit en France : "à chaque jour suffit sa peine" demain est un autre jour. Bon courage pour la suite.👏👏👏😀
I was so shocked to see that stick sink into the trunk of the tree! I had no idea ivy was such a destructive force; generally, I think it's atmospheric and all the green is pretty. Not so. This was fascinating. And the maze that represents your plumbing was another little interesting puzzle. Thanks for the frequent updates. I'm riveted.
Well done yet again. I’m so glad that you emphasised the danger of Ivy. The late Queen of England would not allow Ivy to grow unchecked on any of the royal estates. Where I live in South Devon - on the edge of Dartmoor, Ivy is rapidly changing the habitat and the landscape as so many ivy covered trees are dying and falling down. I have watched you from day one and never missed a video. I really admire and appreciate all you have accomplished. You are a real inspiration Dan. I have renovated abandoned places. It’s an incredibly rewarding thing to do. You follow your own path and dreams and took to filmmaking as a duck to water. I love the tempo of your daily blogs and the details. Stay safe. Ivy doesn't kill trees. It colonises trees that are sick or dying. It forms a part of a forest ecosystem and supports a lot of biodiversity. A lot of misinformation is continually spread about it.
Neighbors planted ivy to cover an area and 30 years later it has worked it way through a green belt with 70+ year old fir trees invasive stuff and nick taking the time to show it is educational
It reminds me of invasive Japanese Knotweed growing on our property. Started out as a tiny plant. Now it is everywhere. And we don't have the funds to have it eradicated. So it continues to invade year after year. 🇨🇦

Nick is such an artist, driving his heavy machinery. He does it with so much ease and elegance. It’s delightful to watch.
Thank God you have Nick and Cameron, they're expertise is really quite invaluable and I hope all goes well, you so deserve it Dan!
So true . Dan is just a very down to earth individual . They are keeping the idea of these 200 Jewish children who survived cause of this house.
I love learning about the trees from Nick, he really knows his stuff. Tree area will be amazing when he is comfortable that all the dangers have been addressed and the young saplings get enough light to grow properly.

The periodic woodland shots are so serene and dreamy. Great contrast with the noise and activity. Well done Dan. Thank you.
Nic can handle those machines with such ease and accuracy, just amazing! Dan just keep showing us it can be done!
Hopefully he can have a barbaque. Remember he did go to Colledge and got a degree in Cooking .

Dan, The “Steven Spielberg” of UA-cam ❤ thanks for another brilliant vlog 🎉
Dan, the clearing up outside was epic. You all did so well.
It's so sad about the ivy damaging that maple.
I'm so glad that Nic knows about these things.
Cameron is also a big help with trees and everything.
Cheers to you all. 😍
I don't think the ivy damaged the tree, it just hid the damage, at least that's how I understood Nick.

Really, ivy growing anywhere is a bad idea. Not good for trees or buildings
He is doing a great job! What a Godsend for Dan!
Nic is such a professional.
@@markcolburn6632 Ivy is so useful, it protects trees from heat, fungus, host life, offer food and protection to birds.

Perhaps on a hot scorching July day!
I like your squirrel brain and I completely agree. 💯😂
Well I have to agree. The moss is ugly and after all that work on gravel will go undone once you wash them.
Me too! I think that is one original feature which can shine now showing the beauty yet to come.

I'm wondering if they had an escape tunnel so as to hide if the Nazi's came to investigate .
Interesting information about trees and Ivy. Congratulations on all your hard work Dan and your merry team. The Flogs are not to be missed xx
You are getting so many interesting and necessary jobs done!!! Your property will thank you for it!!! 👍👏👏👏😊

My guess is they would have put the fosse septic at the back of the chateau. Those pipes are probably the run off pipes for grey water only coming from the chateau roof and gutters to a filtration bed.
Yes, especially since the pipe they started from lines up quite nicely with the remains of the gutter downpipe visible at 7:40.
I am soooo hooked on Dan's project videos that this is the third time I have been the 1st to like his vlog of the day!

I thought Nick ha cut a section out of the tree but it was ivy. Amazing how big they get. Fascinating. Look forward to these. Thanks.
You learn something new every day 🌳 the outside is looks fab, thank goodness you have Nick and Cameron 🙌
You are all such hard workers! Bravo. And, I learn so much from Nick. It is incredible what can harm a tree and what a tree can harm when it falls.
Sad about the beautiful big tree but sounds dangerous. Nick is worth his weight in gold isn’t he!

Hello Dan, what a gorgeous green forest you have!
I know you're not going to like it, but you need to find the septic tank and have it drained/maintenance and fill the leech line holes with gravel so it can properly drain. I've had one back up on me while I was taking a shower....not nice and not cheap.
Thanks for sharing your day. 😀
