@imhere solook Get Intel's XTU, then adjust the values in small increments and stress test to make sure it's stable.
i got the 144hz with 512gb pcie drive, and i am absolutely blown away...i got mine just a month ago and the keyboard lights up nicely and yes i do have 1660 Ti

@@JarrodsTech Welp, I'm gonna get mine earlier than you I guess. Getting it from US, should get it 2nd week of July. I am anxious and excited about the thermal performance, I know it's good but is it good enough to get these kind of crazy results like the Acer Helios is getting with a 1660ti. Also worried if my i5 9300H will bottleneck my 2060 or not. Hopefully not. Maybe I should have gone for the i7 9750H with the 1660ti. Oof.

Microcenter has an FX505 variant with 3550H and 60Hz panel while keeping the 1660 Ti for $800. Unless this goes on sale I'd say this variant of the FX505 is still the price to performance champ.

In my country (Mexico) this model has just arrived a couple of months ago (before the COVID-19 thing) and I just got it in a BestBuy sale at 1631.61 USD with the RTX 2060, 1TB+512GB, and 16GB of RAM

Hello, everybody, I'm writing this as an update after 3 months. Long story short: I LOVE IT.
@@AbramVargas La laptop funciona de maravilla. No se calienta tanto, me imagino que gracias al undervolting que vino de fábrica. Estoy jugando Dark Souls 3 en características altas y no se calienta. Sobre todo gracias a los ventiladores. Sí, pueden ser un poco ruidosos, pero ayudan bastante en controlar la temperatura.
Algunos juegos que he usado en ella, de altos recursos son:
- Rome II: Total War - Calidad Ultra
- Attila: Total War - Calidad Ultra
- Total War Troy - Calidad Ultra
- Dark Souls 3 - Calidad Alta
Además de que los 16 de RAM y los 512 GB de SSD me permiten hacer tareas de oficina sin mucha demora.

This laptop is a beast! I'm currently testing the RTX 2060 model but apparently, the 1660Ti one is a sweet spot this year (the FPS are really similar in those 2 models). Great work Jarrod!

When I looked at the specs sheet they only show that the storage has a 256gb of SSD and nothing else... can you confirm?
@@garn100 yes, but you can 2.5 hdd or ssd for not alot, i added kingston a400 960gb ssd, didn't cost me that much, installing it was super easy.

Jarrod, thank you so much for this review, it really helped me make my decision. I'm in the US and picked this up off Amazon in 1660ti trim. It is by far the best laptop...or even computer I have ever owned. I'm staggered by it's performance. For those shopping, the 1660ti spec comes with a 256 Kinston m.2, 2x8gb 2666hz Kingston RAM, no RGB just blue (which I love). I added a Kingston 1tb SSD for storage and games, removed Norton, and have been happy as could be. I ran some benchmarks and this thing is murdering most desktops, so good. Best $1200 laptop ever.

Mine isn't too bad on the back light bleed. It looks pretty good for a 144 in my opinion. That said, I don't expect much from laptops, I have an Ultrawide monitor at home that I use for serious work.

Hi Jarrod,
Thanks to your awesome videos, I got this laptop and I'm loving it! Have been having to learn a quite a few things from scratch, as it's my first ever gaming laptop and I haven't had a PC in years. Anyway, after occasionally getting a few stutters during gaming(playing GTA 5), I used GeForce experience to optimise the game settings for me and it seems to have optimised it well. I changed a few of the settings from Ultra to Normal, as I found out that they can really affect fps. The question I have is regarding temperature and power consumption . . . I noticed that after playing for long periods and even with a cooling pad and fans at around 80%, the laptop battery would discharge even when plugged into the mains(only by a few percent) And temperatures could be around 80c to 85c. Yet other times, the laptop battery doesn't discharge when plugged in after a long period of playing(with the same conditions (cooling pad and custom fans)) but I find the temperatures are lower, as in 68c to 78c. Is it possible that if the room temperature is higher, it affects how the cpu and gpu work and causes them to require more power than the adapter can supply?
No problem, happy to hear I was able to help! Dropping by a few percent is pretty typical with most machines, if it's lowering by a lot you could look at buying a higher wattage power brick assuming it's not just a software setting trying to prevent the battery from sitting at 100% to optimize life span. Yes definitely, generally a 1c increase to room temp = a 1c increase to internal temperatures, however I doubt this would affect power draw.

Jarrod'sTech if you want a pretty good gaming laptop with a good price I recommend an asus strix rog laptop, there is a Zephyrus version going for 1,000 and about 3 others that are asus strix rog going for the same price

Yes, depends on your country though. In the US it's definitely up there, but other countries like mine the Lenovo y540 can be $500 cheaper for same specs.

@@Crippley I would expect so, ray tracing would not go very well with the GTX 1660 Ti, for that you'd want an RTX card like the 2060 version as a minimum I think. This is a guess based on what I know about ray tracing, I haven't actually tried to play minecraft with ray tracing on GTX graphics myself.

Was only planning on spending $1,000 on a new gaming laptop, but I'm pretty convinced I need to just pull the trigger on Helios 300 2019. With these specs, the cooling, and the great reviews, I think I would regret anything else in this price-range. Thanks for the great video!

Please review and test on HP OMEN 17 2019 (9750, 2060)
Unfortunately HP don't send me review units and they cost too much in my country for me to buy just to review, sorry. I've tried everything to make this happen. I've sent countless emails to every address I can find, made phone calls, even met with their staff at various events and exchanged business cards but nothing has come of it, so I can only assume they're not interested.

Strix G has only 1 M.2 port, which is used by its default intel 660p i guess. Helios comes with two M.2 ports, the default one is WD 720 black, which is faster than the 660p. I got too used to physical numpads for Excel typing, ROG laptops would be my first choice if it wasn’t because of the numpad.

Hinges to tight, they broke off the screen.
So hot on the bottom it literally burns you to the touch.
Hybrid 5400 hard drive bottlenecks system and failed after 2 years.
Lcd has so much glare its useless in anything other then a dark room.
RV Prepared Yet? My right fan died and sending it in for warranty. My Lenovo froze 3 times locking me out. All bios and drivers updated did not help🤮 I’m here looking for another laptop to buy with 144hz

Weeks ago i bought the 2018. They say that 2019 is much cooler :( . Also its way slimmer

But the system is very strong and most of my games are not gpu intensive. I play smite on 150 fps so the 1060 was probably an overkill. But i play minecraft with shaders and its powerful enough to run it

Wonder if G-Sync's inherent performance boost is still faster than the Predator Helios 300's Turbo mode?! 45 watt CPU + G-sync vs 56 watt CPU + GPU OC?! Lenovo legion Y740 vs Acer Predator Helios 300, battle for the best value gaming laptop!

@@vaibhav2364 Certainly not, the Legion Y540 has no G-Sync, so the Helios 300 beats it hands down performance wise due to undervolt and turbo mode. Legion Y740 has G-Sync, and if undervolted it might be faster than the Helios 300. Value is not a synonym of budget or cheap, but best performance per dollar. Legion Y740 is 200$ more expensive for same config as Helios 300 but if it gets better performance than it due to G-Sync, plus better tear free visuals, better aesthetics it could have better value. Lastly Lenovo discounts the Y740 very often bringing it down to the 1200$ price bracket, then add in discounts for students, teachers and military and other public sector and you get even better deals.For exmaple the June promotion just ended last Friday.

I'm finally planning to replace my old laptop, an 8 year old Lenovo Y580. With a 3rd gen i7 and GTX 660M, any laptop at Helios 300's price range would be a super upgrade for me. But still, I want to make the most out of my money. I'm actually leaning towards MSI because my brother owns a GL62 which he's so pleased with. Dell G5 or G7 also seems a good choice. Also looking at Lenovo Y545 or an HP Omen. Or even one of the lower tier ROGs. I was just never fond of Acers. I don't know, maybe because of the lower end units i've used at work. But this review puts the Helios 300 on top. Of my list now. The build quality, aluminum lid and deck and the performance on your bench marks really wowed me. So let's see, I really am more pressed on this model now than any of its contemporaries. Great review, by the way 👍
I would stick to Lenovo, but if you are feeling like you want this laptop, then get it with a warranty... some models has a very bad backlight bleeding, and unfunctional fans

How is it possible that the 1660 TI had better results than the 2060?? 😮😯
The 1660 Ti is overclocked, and at 1080p CPU is quite important in many games and the Helios 300 performs well there due to the power limit boost + undervolt.
@@JarrodsTech so in theory if you applied the same overclocked settings to a 2060, then it would get better results?
And does it affect the lifespan of the laptop? Or is it a safe thing to do?

Yeah I'd expect so, if it was able to run at the same level of CPU power limit + undervolt. Generally boosting power limit equals more heat which can reduce life span, by how much, nobody knows, it's just a general thing that heat is less good. In terms of GPU OC, only boosting the clock speed in laptops and can't adjust power limits so it's pretty risk free. Cheers!
Don't forget people, electrical components hate heat. You're not going to get many years use out of any of a laptop that's thermal throttling at 100 degrees celsius (boiling temp).My major consideration at the moment while trying to decide which to buy is thermals so so far this wins.....
@@JarrodsTech I oc my Helios 500 GTX 1070 to 170MHz core plus 450Mhz mem, it was stable for some weeks, then it froze my game and now my laptop is freezing for 5s and cold shutdown itself when I do a usage of it... I sent it to repair since I had warranty. The gpu didn't overheat nor others components... Maybe the OC broke a resistor or capacitor... But gpu had its full performance when doing furmark for 50 minutes after closing everything, it freezes and shutdown..

Yeah you need to step up to a higher Acer model to get TB3.
Got the 17inch 2019 model from Microcenter and it’s got 4zone rgb, just gotta chance it in the acer sense software

I'd get the Helios personally, Scar III has lower CPU performance, if you see my Scar III review, the Helios 300 wins in many games at low-med settings despite my Scar III having RTX 2070.
