It goes on sale for $999 USD on Amazon too which is pretty crazy for the specs. In Australia though, the Y540 is about $500 AUD cheaper, in the US though it costs a bit more, Helios is just expensive here.

also I wish you mentioned what they didn't - overclocking the graphics and raising CPU TDP when pressing the turbo button, also undervolt out of the box. I'm pretty sure they did their testing without the turbo mode

Pretty happy with my Predator laptops, bought a 17x (still use it today) and gifted my cousin a 2019 helios 300.
Great performance for the price.
I wish it was more subtle, like a little less gamer aesthetic, mainly the logo

I don’t mind the logo, it’s mainly the fact that it’s emblazoned with the word PREDATOR, which looks to me like a warning.

I own a Sager with an i7 7700HQ and a 1060 with 16gb of ram and a 250gb ssd and 2tb hdd running windows 10 Pro and no branding so its a nice stealth look to it which is nice that I got for $1309 back in May of 2017
It's definitely an improvement over the 2018 version, performance- (and look-) wise. I've had to open the one I have up, repaste the CPU and GPU with Kryonaut, and undervolt the CPU to get the temps under control.
Also, I love the teal-blue thing the 2019 version has going on.
i am watching this on my predator aswell,about the sound when u switch on thee turbo button its unnoticeable when u have a headset on.i love the laptops design and in my unit i didn't experience backlight bleeding.overall its awesome❤

Love mine ... when it's working. Unfortunately I experienced sudden black screens and a failure to power back up. Upon researching I discover that this is not too uncommon. Not turning it off, just letting it "sleep", has helped, but when I stream with it I'm always a bit worried that it's going to die on me. I'll give it a few more weeks and if it dies again I'm sending it in to Acer. Sorry to say but for me it hasn't been a good experience ...
After much research this laptop seems like a potential purchase. Are there any updates you can share as to what your experincing?

Have this laptop for about 6 months and love it, same specs except I upgraded to 32gb of ram and added another 2tb of memory, no problems what so ever and runs anything I throw at it at over 100fps easy

Turn on the turbo mode while gaming and use headset and you're good
And it's beautiful
My only complain about this laptop is turbo mode, super loud lol, but yeah headphones fix that problem unless you are with other people they might get annoyed

@@utkarshrajpurohit1554 its ok with headphones but you don't need turbo to get good performance, without it you're perfectly fine you also have full control of the fans so you can make it pretty tolerable noise while gaming

I have always had used computers like the Intel NUC and the Acer Predator Helios 300 is my first new one. What a change. It's so fast and different. It's changed my life.
I would like to buy, but it is not officially available in Brazil and if you try to import from Amazon, the price is doubled because of the fees.

You are not missing out much on it the touchpad ruins it and the keyboard is not real responsive a bit laggy.

I'm glad you mentioned rendering time in your review because so many of these reviews focus on gaming vs 3d modeling, which i dont game but am an artist. Is their any bloat ware that needs to be deleted like the hp omen when setting up?
hi. i got this laptop and its amazing. a few pointers:
1.for better battery life when on the go, try reducing screen refresh rate from 144 to 60. i got about 25-30% more screen on time this way.
2. "turbo" button is not only for lower temps. when u press it, cpu and gpu both auto set to higher clocks, giving insta FPS's. it is loud, but. when u game with headphones, u cant really hear those fans.
3. using throttlestop - setting -350ma on the core, allows even better battery life, lower temps and higher clock speeds.
4. and thats abit of a cav: the entire body is a real fingerprint magnet.
-350mv? Are you sure?? My unit starts going haywire at above -149mv so I’m really curious as to how yours can sustain such a low undervolt
@@Owais2wolverine it could drop clocks but otherwise theres no way it could hold max boost at that level of undervolt. im impressed it turns on, my 8750H blue screens at .165 lol
@@Owais2wolverine @The branred yes. I am sure. This laptop comes with -150ma out the box. I have set to -350ma and all is good. What This does is first lowers the cpu's power draw, but actually leaves more headroom For better clocks , due to not reaching power and temp limits. For high clocks Just set max boost 45 on all cores, 70w max power draw. I got 4ghz constant when on max load and 4.2-4.3ghz when on idle/ lite load.
"low profile and stealth" that's why I got a dell G5 with these specs. Everyone thinks its a work laptop, and I'm really happy about that. I could barely use the alieneare I sold to get it without people coming up and bothering me haha.

Dang this is solid for the price, even including mounting stuff for an SSD and a turbo mode button? Nice touches. Seems more like a carry-around-to-LAN kind of notebook anyway so the battery life is probably not much of a factor in that kind of use.

There are 2 Asus laptops at similar price and specs, I think the strix is with 1660ti but zephyrus is 1660 in a better form factor. Typically around 1100 on Amazon. Might be worth doing a shoot out!

asus rogs are pretty gamish...but if you are looking for an allrounder this one the best bet
I purchased my Helios in December because of this review! As a new gamer, it's perfect for a novice and does all the other functions as an office laptop. I paid $1050 on Amazon, some special offered by the seller and was blown away with the value for this little beast...as stated in review a few quirks e.g. loud fans that seem to run constantly, light leaks not a big deal for me, and a small battery. Other than those marginal concerns, for the last four-months its been outstanding and love COD and Sniper II gaming on it as the graphics are a high wow factor!
I have had mine for around 8 or so months now and I love this laptop, btw if you bought it for gaming you basically don't even have to worry about the trackpad because you literally never use it when you have a mouse.

I love this laptop, i own one with a 17inch screen and yes, the fans can get REALLY loud, but you notice it only if you max out the fans manualy. While playing i havent noticed it at all. So if you’re planning about getting one and using it like me gaming/programing/browsing/flexing with it. Then go head and get one. It’s worth the money.
That's the laptop I bought a bit less than 2 months ago, and I really enjoy playing games with it. (And that's me coming from the very high end , custom liquid-cooled gaming rig with a 1080Ti inside). Bought the 15" version for 1300 €$, added a 2TB 660p inside to get more storage for games and it rocks.
The only downsides to it, indeed, are fan noise and battery life (even when doing low end stuff on it)
I'm saving up money to buy a new laptop and my top 3 pick are:
- Helios 300
- Zephyrus M
- Legion Y740
Anyone got any opinion on these?
DO yourself a favour and get Helios 300. Reasons? Well Helios 300 may not outperform but it at least gets at par with a very significantly higher priced Legion Y740. On top of it Helios comes undervolted right out of the box so LOWER Temperatures are a thing for this beast. Also the turbo button and predator sense are addon features unlike Legion that can't boast about being anything different than the others. All of this for much lesser price point.
Zephyrus M? Hahahaha please. Agreed that it's a great gaming laptop but come on, racing a horse with a cheetah isn't exactly a fair game is it. Aaaannnnddd the most annoying that I personally dislike about Asus is....no webcam!! I mean YEAAH we don't use it, yes it's good for nothing but removing it altogether is a pretty big cost cutting measure that should be reflected in the price for benefit of consumers but it doesn't! Also no RGB keyboard Dunno if thats a requirement. Anyhooo decide for yourself

@@paxvesania2008 I have myself bought the i7+1660ti version because I have seen tons of reviews and most of the youtubers have said that since i5 has been coupled with generally gtx1650 the performance difference between i5 & i7 versions is huge for the price difference like you can play games at 80-90 fps even at high to ultra settings in i7 version but in i5 only 60-70 at medium settings. If you still feel the price difference is not worth the extra power and you are fine with okayish fps at medium to high go with the i5 its an excellent choice too.
@@PrafulPrasad I don't know why but for some reason the Helios 300 is only available in i5/i7 processor with RTX gpu (2060 and 2070) in my country. There is legit no model of the i7 and 1660 Ti even on the Acer official website.

I'm new to blender 3d and am gravitating towards this. Not a gamer but want something thats up to snuff for modeling. Its its currently $1089 now and not sure if it will come down anymore for the Thanksgiving weekend. Nice review. Also I hope I don't get one thats a dud judging from the negative reviews at Amazon because of the negative comments about Acers policys.
I bought the 17 inch Helios 300 and it has insanely good great performance while still being pretty quiet. It also has an rgb keyboard despite only having 1660 TI.
The camera at the top is great because you have it at the proper place when you do need to use it like once in a blue moon. I bought a webcam cover in the internet for like a couple bucks because tape or stickers look ugly, so far its been great.
Really hope this gets a discount over Christmas

I bought this laptop a few month ago and turbo mode is loud af but overall im happy and just added a 1tb wd green ssd and xps pro 1tb nvme. I watched a lot of reviews inc this one before i bought it
On Amazon the only things that I see that are interesting are:
Helios 300 ($1099 USD at time of writing) with a 9750H and 1660Ti.
ASUS FX505 models, two with a Ryzen 7 3750h and one with the R5 3550h. The first two comes with 120hz panel with either a RTX 2060 + 512GB SSD ($1179) or a 1660Ti + 256GB and 1TB HDD ($999). The last model is more budget friendly with a GTX 1650, R5 3550H and a 256GB SSD, but still gives a 120hz panel and is selling for $699.
These Ryzen CPUs arent necessarily gonna be exciting and generally par up with 8th gen Intel I5s and behind 9th gen, but Id say outside of content creators that really need that 6C/12T that the I7 provides these Ryzen models can be cheaper and popular. Though fingers crossed AMD comes out with something to compete with these 9th gen Intel mobile CPUs.

I own the Helios 500 with the ryzen 7 2700 and Vega 56. I really hope they take the same form factor and stick a Ryzen 3rd gen, and a 5700 XT into it. I finished up power play table editing on a laptop mind you, and I got the Vega 56 up above a 3rd party manufacturer's desktop card without much compromise. It's a desktop, in a laptop form-factor.

I just bought one and your review helped. I got the one with a 256 ssd 16gb ram and a 2tb regular drive. Off Amazon it was $1280 and I’m completely happy with it. I got it mainly to lug around all my media and light gaming. It runs like a dream haven’t had any issues although I’m still breaking it in. Recommend any portable power banks that can handle this bad boy?

This is one of the few laptops to sport the 1660ti which is a great card as I have the Desktop version and it takes whatever I throw at it with ease. So yeah I'm going to get this even now as of Aug 2022, and the GPU is only just over 3 years old. So far from obsolete. Also I've used Acer products since 1997 (mostly desktops) so I really don't have much worry, about purchasing it. Thanks!!

Best thing to do with the Killer 1550i is just replace those drivers with the equivalent Intel drivers and uninstall the Killer software suite.
Or buy a new gen intel wifi card and replace it.
You can always just swap the wifi card for $30

Was so tempted with this laptop (2019 edition) but due to it being just out of my budget, I settled for the 2018 edition (i7-8750h + GTX 1060 6gb) and managed to get it all in for $1350 CAD! Playing witcher on high and ultra settings in bed is just a dream come true haha

@@Anime101HxH me too, but people are saying you will only get 15% more fps in games, eg: 100fps in gtx 1660ti, then 115 in rtx 2060, and the rtx is 400 dollar more than the 1660ti, which is nor worth it for just 15% more fps

I think Helios 300 is Top 1 in 'best bang for your cash' category, worth every penny.
Just bought It, but because of the high price and low specs, I bought mine 17.3 version in Germany. Was an open box, but the price was also very good with doped specs, compared to those available in my country.

The Legion Y540/740 is more tax friendly IMO 😂😂, professional looks for a great price.
The Eluktronic MAG 15 is almost superior now if you like a stealthy look
I might buy this! The reason why ive been avoiding the Helios 300 is because the aggressive red colour scheme (even tho im using a MSI laptop) but this blue colour is really nice. i might buy the RTX version as an "upgrade"

dont do it, get a y540 the one with a i7 and rtx 2060 is on sale on lenovos website right now for 1200$, same price as this but better gpu, keyboard, screen and it doesnt have the hideous gamer look

I have the RTX 2060 model, the only complaint I really have is that the battery only lasts for like an hour, so it’d be best to keep it plugged in. If you have one of these laptops and the performance isn’t as good as you thought it would be, check that you’re using the graphics card and not the integrated graphics, it changed my performance completely.
