Great workshop, my only criticism is that the camera person had the camera on you while you were showing us different techniques on the screen. They gave you the pointer but didn't show what you were pointing to. Other than that when we did get a chance to see the screen it was really awesome, and I must admit I learned some more tricks I wasn't aware of. I must admit they eventually zoomed out so that we could see what you were doing, I have been doing work on UA-cam using Procreate on my channel. I purchased 3 of your Art Study Online courses and it helped me understand more about digital art. Excellent work on your part!
umbeon Thank you so much. Yes, I know the camera should have zoomed out! Totally agree :-) I am very glad to hear it helped you and that you found some new tricks on ArtStudyOnline as well. Cheers
I talked briefly with Nikolai at very first Lightbox in LA in 2019. I'm pretty old, so not so shy when talking to people... He was super approachable and very open to discussing art and the tools. Very nice guy. If you ever get the opportunity at an event in the future, do what he says and just go and have a chat... don't be afraid. You'll learn something.
Mr. Nikolai, I am from Colombia and I found the lecture very interesting, I follow your illustrations on youtube recently but since my language is Spanish I could not understand very bn but what little I could ententer helped me, it is totally overwhelming that technique of illustration , I practice every day but for now what I have is a pc and a genius tablet but the time will come when I get an ipad pro, I think it is really great what you do greetings from colombia =)
What brand of stand is that blue stand Niko? I don't see it anywhere on the internet. I like that it raises up the iPad/case off the desk and is more ergonomic to paint with.
hey Nikko, do you sell your procreate brushes anywhere? Just got an ipad pro and pecil but the brush experience is lacking for me compared to photoshop..
More videos like this one!!! I always learn something and am greatly inspired by your videos. This was a great venue! When my children's book is published and I have made my first million, I would like to take you out for steaks and beer.
Very nice video! In the middle of the video it would have been nice to see what you are doing with your perspective setup. Dang! I would love to also see the setup for the pencil brush you use. Looks more like a real pencil than any other I have seen.
Frustrating camerawork. At 30:11, you're talking about 3 point perspective and the camera just sits there on you - even when you turn and indicate something on screen with your pointer. I really hate when videos do that. It's nice to see the lecturer sometimes but only when he isn't showing new information on his visual aid. If the visual aid is actively changing or has recently changed, then the camera should focus on that. The lecture itself was great. I learned a lot.
Hi Nikkolai, great presentation. Thank you for posting. Out of curiosity, which model iPad do you use nowadays. And do you use any kind of screen protector to modify the iPad's smooth, glassy surface? I'm seeing a lot of artists preferring a rougher, diffuse surface, but then struggling with the 'graininess' that those protectors introduce. Cheers! Keep up the good work
Daniel Dutch Sorry for late response. I dont have any screenprotector myself, so I cannot give you a good answer. I would ask in a Apple store to hear what they reccomend
STUNNING WORK! I really like the way that you explain Nickolai! Let me know, witch model is this holder to Ipad? The blue one. I'm looking for a good holder to draw. Thanks man! congratulations for you incredible work!
Bruno Rovarotto Thank you very much Bruno :-) Yes the stand I am using is a "the brilliant reading rest" ....cool name :-P Made for books, but works perfect for the ipad and folds down. Love it!
Is there a video of the recent convention you were at where you used a newer version of procreate with unreleased features? I love your work and am really enjoying seeing how you work in procreate! Thanks a lot!
Kyle Butterfield Thank you. Yes I did a talk in Paris wich is on the way. Just keep a lookout on my youtube channel and I will upload it as soon as I got the finished edit :-)
Loved this video, very informative and inspiring. I've watched a couple of your other time lapse videos and I see that you start out in gray-scale but then suddenly you apply a wash of colour. I would love to know how this is done. Could you please consider making a tutorial of this subject?
SOMETIMES, the person filming doesn't seem to realize that THE SCREEN is much more useful to focus on than his face, for a tutorial session. Otherwise, great tips! Thank you for sharing.
Hello Nikko :) Where can I find your tutorials for Procreate? Tried on internet search, but no luck. I really want to learn from you, because you are so good at explaining, I have seen a few here on UA-cam and want full time tutorials. I have some background on Procreate, but I am no expert so I want to learn more from you. Thank you.
Thank you very much. I will go there and purchase the streaming for at least one of them, I really like those there. Do you have time to create more tutorials on artstudy? Landscapes, sunsets?
This video wasn't long enough and that man keep telling you that you only got minutes left was really annoying. Fantastic video though thank you. Love your work love watching you.
Everyone said everything. I can't find the app in my iPhone 4. I have an iMac. Maybe there? iPad 2 I have as well. I have been inspired to write my visual book with ProCreate! Come to Florida, the land of light and sun. Enjoy our sun while you still can.
Art Konstantino Thank you! You can get Procreate Pocket to your iPhone. Wich is a simpler, but powerful version of regular Procreate. But Procreate as a regular version is only awailable for iPad for now. Do you have an iPad?
I found the program on my iPad 2. We just have to use the finger. I did hear that Apple is working on getting older iPads to work with the pencil. Sounds exciting. I read Savage started in July of 2013 with ProCreate. I also heard the the 12.9 iPad pro does not transfer the work the same as a regular 10 in pro. Are you familiar? Do you use the 12.9 or 10? I took notes all through the 1 hour take you gave. I do appreciate the inspiration!!
You man is a very strong artiste
Your paintings are amazing
Thank you mr nikolai
Thank you very much :-)

Great workshop/video Niko! Thanks for sharing. I learned a lot.
What brand of stand is that blue stand Niko? I don't see it anywhere on the internet. I like that it raises up the iPad/case off the desk and is more ergonomic to paint with.
Robert Hopkins Hi Robert. It has the smashing name "The brilliant reading rest". It is actually brilliant and it folds down nicely!
Outstanding! No wonder I could not find it looking for tablet/ipad stand. Thx again Niko!
Thank you for tips!

Very nice video! In the middle of the video it would have been nice to see what you are doing with your perspective setup. Dang! I would love to also see the setup for the pencil brush you use. Looks more like a real pencil than any other I have seen.
David Merchen Thank you. Yes. The camera should have zoomed out. I use mostly my own brushes. Creating brushes in Procreate is very much fun and easy!

I really wish we could get your brushes for Photoshop/Krita... I hear it's extremely difficult to covnert ProCreate to Photoshop though.
I would also want to become a great artist

The Pocket version requires 9.1 or later. No good for my iPhone 4 with 7.2😓
What did you use on your iPhone 4 back then?
