  • This is my first tutorial in Procreate on the iPad. So this is as much a test for me as a tut for you. Feel free to give feedback.
    Nothing too fancy here. approx one and a half hour paint squeezed into 9 minutes.
    I teach how to draw using an iPad at ArtStudyOnline.com
    Highlights from my courses include:
    • Thumbnail sketches of different creatures/characters/environments being created
    • Selecting final designs from the thumbnail drawing process
    • Surface, Colour, and Lighting, and Scale adjustments to give different styles
    • Details, Look and Surroundings to give a sense of realism and scale
    • Learning the incredible power of creating your own Procreate brushes
    • Setting up different perspectives to create environments with believable depth
    • Tips on how to enhance your images and give them that 'film' look
    I work as an Art director, Concept Artist and Matte Painter in the movie and TV industry. I have a fun career history, having worked on such movies as “Troll Hunter”, Oscar-nominated “Kon Tiki”, “Max Manus” and “The Mortal Instruments”, to name but a few.
    I'm fortunate enough to regularly work with Hollywood Director Harald Zwart and continue to develop my art. I am often travelling between movie locations and international film studios, and my iPad always travels with me!

    I can't believe this is real, the way you can see beyond, improve the lights and the details on each object on stage... mind blowing

    This is beautiful. I love this type of painting set in this semi dark lighting with the street light and window glow, with little colour but it's so effective and ambient. Amazing work, you're a very talented artist :)

    Thanks for posting this beautiful winter painting process Nikolai. It was very educational in spite the speed. A slower one would have been interesting to see too. Then I'd be able to see your brush selection, the layers, etc in your painting process. I sure enjoy your work. Thanks again

  • @nikolailockertsen
    @nikolailockertsen  11 років тому

    wow :-D What a fantastic amount of fantastic comments.
    I guess 10 times speed is abit too much, but videos will get long and large if they go much slower.
    I will try out different speeds in the future. But If I do a painting until finished work it might be done in 8 hours, and In double speed it will still be a very long video.
    Procreate really kicks ass. I prefer it to Photoshop lately.
    I paint with a Sensu brush and record with Reflector on mac. Edit in Adobe premiere :-)
    Thanks again uall

    @nikolailockertsen  11 років тому

    Thanks again for very very nice comments. I WILL make more tutorials.
    Just wish the day had more hours :-)
    I record with the Reflector software for Mac, then Airplay with iPad, record sound with the buildtin mic on the mac:-P, then edit in Adobe Premiere.
    The App used in the end to do final improvements is called Snapseed. And last time I checked it is for Free!!! it is VERY good, intuitive and high quality. Perfect partner for Procreate to do the final ajustments.
    Thanks for watching! :-)

    Holy shit, du har talent, det skal du ha.
    Tilfeldigvis så har jeg faktisk en Volvo, en 265 faktisk, en av de mer sjeldne.
    Veldig bra tegning uansett selv om den var ganske grov (dine ord), men dette er ace, så fortsett med det du er god på :)

    To answer some questions. I am working on a library of tutorials now. They are in the making as we speak. The tuts will be awailable at artstudyonline com I found that the best stylus is by far Adonit jotTouch4. I have not tried Wacoms latest n greatest, but mu experience with rubbernibs is not that good. They tend to make the rubber too soft and it does not slide over your screen as easy as the hardtip ones

    Hello Nikolai:
    Your artwork is really amazing. I just purchased this app and I am just touching here and there, you have talent!.
    I was wondering if you have a kind of painting tutorial, I am now trying to follow up what you did in this video but there are steps that are so quick and even in a lower speed are not visible for me, i can not see which brush you picked for example, so I was wondering if you have a very basic painting techniques tutorial.
    You are awsome man!
