      @@RealTerrainHobbies Not a problem at all. You deserved it. I'm not much of a plaster user but it does give me some ideas for making something similar out of XPF. I make things for gaming and plaster is a bit to heavy for that. I do use some plaster at times but only very thin layers to keep the weight down.

    Neil - this work is kicking ASS! Your ability to not only create the terrain, but to clearly explain and demonstrate the process for the entire community is a treasure, dude. Thank you for putting in the hard work to design, build, detail, film and edit this magical process - deeply appreciated.
    BTW: I am loving the camera work - super smooth panning shots. Just the right amount of sweep and lingering on the delicious details. (I was lucky enough to receive a gimbal for Christmas, and am so looking forward to finding ways to up my game with it)

      Thanks Heather. Glad you think so. I'm trying to get better with the voice overs so not sure I've communicated as well as I could have, but I'm glad you seem to think so.😊
      Ah, lucky you! I'd absolutely love to get a gimbal. I've got a nifty little motor car thingy for $80 I take most of my shots with. Then I clean it up in post and with the 4k I can zoom in and out doing better pan shots.
      PS. I've listened to your latest video and haven't had the chance to properly respond. It was a great one and very personal so wanted to make sure I gave it some good thought. I know, not from personal experience but having listened to a lot of survivors through various podcasts and such, that severe trama abuse is a very damaging thing(understatement of the year) and indeed is a lifelong struggle to recover from. I'm glad you are finding your way out of it and certainly want nothing but the best for you. I'll head over to the channel and give a better response in the next day or two. All the best Heather! Thanks again for all the awesome support.😊

I needed a little break from that guy as it was taking more time than I anticipated and I was stressing about completing it while getting videos out for the channel in a timely manner. So, took a little break and did a couple projects in between just so I wouldn't get bogged down, but the finale will be the next video once this wizard tower build is wrapped up. So don't worry! It's still on it's way.😊

    Amazing work! You've inspired me to create my own version of the wizard's tower, and I have a question regarding the slate steps. Did you cover those with plaster as well before painting? I'm worried about covering them with a thin layer of plaster and then it flaking off with any bumps (i.e., similar to the thin layers you get on the rock molds between forms). Maybe I'm just worrying too much? Thank you for giving us great videos to learn from!

    • @RealTerrainHobbies
      @RealTerrainHobbies  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Norrin, thanks for the kind words. :) For the most part I didnt cover them and tried to leave them bare. Where some plaster did get on them it's held up really well and takes some good elbow grease to get off. If you use the above technique for paint, the paint will have absorbed well into the plaster and if some does accidentally chip or rub off it won't be exposing any of the bright white and you won't even notice. Hope that helps and best of luck to you!

    FanDamnTastic.. what you're able to achieve is really phenomenal.. question. Noticed you painted right on the plaster. Don't you have problems with ot really absorbing the water out of the paint and lightening the colors? You don't have to prime or prepare the surface before painting?

    • @RealTerrainHobbies
      @RealTerrainHobbies  4 роки тому

      Ididnt have issues with that no. If it was too light for my liking I just added in more paint to the wash. But yeah, I did have to water down the paints quite a bit as is or it would have gotten way too dark. I did not prime before painting no. I like the way the plaster absorbs the paint. It gives a much more realistic effect. Be sure to seal up tho after the painting is complete.
