Holy Cow! He just decides to whip out his personalized Rolex and give to his beautiful daughter's boyfriend? Mr. Newman was totally class.
Beautiful watch. And a beautiful & generous soul to give it to a college kid. RIP & Godspeed Mr. Newman. Even after all these years you've been gone, you're missed.
Paul was my paternal Grandmother’s cousin. I really enjoyed this video. Thank you for posting it
Paul Newman was the man
He sure was . I watched him eat 50 boiled eggs . Lol
My cousin worked for Paul Newman at his 'Hole in the Wall Gang' Camp for Kids in Connecticut for over 20 yrs. At one time, I was a part-time fly fishing guide on the Housatonic River and one day my cousin calls me up and asked if I would take him and a friend of his out for an afternoon of fly fishing. Guess who the 'friend' was? lol Paul was one of nicest and most down-to-earth people you'd ever want to meet. I took them out once more after that and I would say 'Hi' to Paul whenever he was racing at Lime Rock Park. Hand to God, you'd never know the guy was a movie star by the way he conducted himself. A class act in every way and and someone who is truly missed by all who knew him.
I ran into Paul Newman many times while racing in the 1980's. Enough times that he knew me by name. I never got his autograph and never took a picture with him. To me he was just 'Paul' that loved racing.
OMG!! Paul Newman is all----that!😍
is it possible we could see this watch actual (paul newman's rolex daytona)?
is the watch exhibiting in somewhere now?
12,500 dollars, if u can get it for that price
Its artificially high, most Rolex's should be under 5k.....
@@joshuasterling2144 agree but again...grey market got it all (at least 95% of the famous models)
The newest steel Rolex Daytona retails for 13k, but good luck finding one for sale at an authorized dealer. There is a 7-8 year waiting list for them. A new Daytona sells for around 30k on the secondary market.
@@YippeeKiYayMrFalcon 7-8 years? more like never! but do u know if u spend like 500k, u can get one in few mths?
Not that any price is an issue for a man in my position, but you can get Rolex's easily for under $5k across the board.
Watch any interview of Newman in his later days and he's always wearing a Casio/Timex digital watch. He didn't care about Rolex.. he loved his wife who bought him those watches.
I'm assuming you've just included the buyers premium in that assessment, as I saw the watch go for 15.5 Mill in the auction...
Find it strange Paul Newman would give away a watch he wore his entire life and was a gift from his wife and engraved.
Poor people like you don't understand much.
Joanne Woodward actually gave him another Rolex which is why he gave this one away.
It’s called a “gift”, ever heard of it?
It's called being generous.
Ace Gibson, I earn more in an hour than you earn in a year.
That man would make a Casio look cool.....
Awesome
Great story.
the 'real life' version of the 1990s 'only fools and horses' sitcom called 'time on our hands' 1996 xmas special
to all the people who find it weird that paul just gave it away was kinda sketchy. Well, it wasn't worth 17.8 million dollars at that time.
I thought the watch left auction at just $15.5?
auction house fees/taxes/sometimes the auction includes the 10% owed to the auction house so that the seller gets the money in the "live auction"
Rick Harris: I can't give you any more than 1250 my friend..
::yawns::
Loool
i am waiting for the danny divito timex to come up for auction
Didn't the Patek Philippe super complication sell for like 25 million
I would never give a penny for any politician’s watch ever lived.
Why wouldn't they want to keep the watch in the family?
Watch the story. It hadn't "been in the family" for decades.
I did watch the story. It appeared to me that the ex son in law had the watch, which is family. That's why I asked. Thanks.
Kristen Moresi . They were never married. Just ex bf/gf.
@@kristenmoresi5977you clearly didn’t watch the story. Either that or you just aren’t very smart.
Someone I think once gave one of these two me as a special gift and the delivery guy stole it
I bought a solar casio for $30...
ha!
I bet it Still keeps time.
Expensive Casio 👀 i bought one for $ 19.90 from ebay 😂
@@rvz77 Yes sir, it still does.
I haven't changed battery once. I only replaced the hardened wrist band once, and that's it.
And?
Wasn't it Eric Clapton's Rolex Daytona that was the first Rolex to fetch a million dollars at auction?
Clapton wears Patek's.
Don’t how anyone could sell this unless it wasn’t really theres
i feel poor af watching this
I would give it back to her daughter. So she can have what her father worn. Paul sound like cool cat.
ANYTHING on Paul Newman's wrist would be the epitome of cool.Same as Steve McQueen. Sorry, nothing to do with the watch.Rolex were just lucky. They hit the jackpot with that one. Couldn't give them away prior to that
Did Rolex also get “lucky” with the GMT, Explorer, submariner, and datejust?? Rolex builds the best tool watches on earth. People love to bash the brand and say it’s all marketing. But at the end of the day, no brand built a better, more reliable sports watch.
The ROLEX ROYCE etcetc... CAR like WATCH... NO Gas!
Pitty she didn't get him a timex
The watch sold for 15.500.000 not 17.800.000, that's what has been paid after taxes and commissions!
15.5 not 17.8 stop lying
So the guy was like « I can pay 17,8 M but not 18 M »
Auctions are a joke for blue pilled
More money than sense. Lol
That’s just stupid money lol
That’s how much Floyd’s watch cost!
What is wrong with this country?
My Quartz Timex better.
Cosmograph?
Cronograph..
Rolex bub, it's a cosmograph.
I understand that this is an iconic watch and related tó a great actor, but IT is still inferior to a Patek or Chopard geneve and certainly not worth that much. But demand dictates
Inferior in what way?? Rolex are built to be rugged, purpose built tool watches. And in that regard, they are without a doubt superior to both of the brands you listed, as well as just about every other brand. Try taking ANY patek diving or into the mountains in sub zero temperatures and see how long it holds up….
You want ruggedness? buy a g-shock. way more solid than Rolley. and, cheaper. I recommend the gwg 1000. I own that as well
Overrated and not as historically significant as you'd think. Go fetch the 105.012 Speedmaster that is in the lunar module on the moon that Neil Armstrong left behind and then tell me about a record breaking watch when its set to bid.
you are a pretty cool watch ! some , MOST of us are unlikely to ever be able to afford these uber cool watches !
Luckily IMHO , we CAN buy these Watches as excellent fakes replete w/a swiss movement for less than $600 !
which is exactly what I intend to do ! I WILL have a exact copy I can wear and enjoy and frankly, I could care less if someone does not like it !
The greed and snobbery of ROLEX seems to know no bounds ! This is my small protest !
hope you do not mind ! @t LOL Jack
fake news
paul newman didnt do much as far as i know. I dont recall him doing anything to expose animal cruelty or cop corruption
@Bryan Davis hahahaha
Newman was well padded in the pocket book. He had all sorts of toys. At his latter days on earth he probably realized all this high dollar crap, to include Rolex watches he owned, was nothing but vanity and horseshit. Be advised.
