At the 3:26 mark. On the cabinets over your what would be your left shoulder? Is that a water leak from the roof across from the Bath?
Definitely need flame arrestors in case of backfire.
Why would you use a filter when draining the tanks?
Link don't work
Is there a scam on your channel? Apparently I’ve won a GMC.
Replace the carpet with vinyl plank flooring. It's water-proof, easy to keep clean, and easy to install. AND, it's not prone to mold and mildew.
LVP is definitely the way to go!
Teak would look sick but alot of work and costly.
I agree some aqua guard plank flooring or some hydro turf or sea deck Eva.
They make a teak and holly vinyl. I think it’ll keep the ultra premium feel of the riva and not cheapen it by using lvp. Lots of sailboats are using it now and I honestly wasn’t able to spot the difference right away and thought it was actual teak and holly. Might be worth checking out
You don't put that crap in a boat.its ment to have carpet.
Honestly the b is for boat episodes are one of my faves. No one’s doing a build like this.. such a unique build
I was so glad to see the boat back on the channel! So great to see the content! Can't wait for them to get it in the water!
the "square screw" you refer to--- P. L. Robertson invented the Robertson screw and screwdriver in 1906 and received the Canadian patent in 1907
well fuck that guy, lets go america!
You can thank Henry Ford for the Roberston not being popular in the US@@BisforBuild
Yeah and they work better than Philips... But torx is even better 😂
chris, I recommend you put some LED in the engine bay with independent batteries, as an emergency precaution
Just a thought, I would mount those ECUs high as possible just in case the bilge ever floods
Good call.
And not under the fuel lines, if they leak, they leak all over your electronics
@@hercules1177 The ECU's will be above the fuel lines, he literally explained that....
I thought about that, i made them high up, and if they get flooded, were in a sinking situation and have a whole lot more to worry about
Add a T-off from the raw water inlet before the pump and run it down to a low point in the bilge. Put a valve between the inlet and pump, and a valve between the bilge inlet and pump so you can choose the source. This will act as an emergency dewatering system if your bilge pumps aren't enough for accidental flooding by sucking the bilge water through your heat exchangers. 20:45
Edit: this works best if your raw water pumps are belt driven to mitigate electrical system failure.
I was literally thinking about this as an emergency while watching the video I'm glad I'm not the only one lol
thank you very much for the idea, but yeah you're right, if we're out of power, all hope is lost.
Along with the valves to the bilge, I wonder if it might be useful to have valves setup such that one strainer could feed both engines, should one get clogged?
@@ix0sin most diesel setups there is a temperature sensor on the wet exhaust. If temp gets too high it triggers an alarm, and this is usually what indicates a clogged sea strainer. The exhaust will get hot long before the engine overheats...not to mention his fancy gauge setup should notify if the engine starts getting warm. On top of this, sea strainers are designed to be closed and then cleaned out while the boat is in the water if they are clogged.
Was just explaining the boat thing to my wife 😅 i said he bought it like 2 years ago...i start watching and you then tell us its 4-5 years bro where does the time go.
15:06 knot all marine engines have wet exhaust. This is a high end package for most boats
Most standard fishing vessels have water pipes that are on the outside of the haul in the constant flow of water. With a dry stack exhaust
When templating i have found beer boxes really well. Also manilla folders. Both are way easier to work with then heavy cardboard,
Not to mention it's often easier to cut smaller pieces to fit perfectly and that overlap and then either tape or hot glue them together for the final template.
Very nice of Chelsea to make a cameo appearance!!
Chris - add a few marine lights into the engine room. so that in the future you have good light while on the water when you have an issue.
Personally I'd have, Tank, Pump, Filter, Engine. Something about it being easier to push than pull? Also when it comes to large hydraulic pumps, the idea is to make sure you "flood" the pumps intake from the tank. Be sure to let us know next episode! :D
YESS!! I'm a boat freak so loving this series. Can't wait for the sea trial episode!!!
Consider adding raw water flow alarms. One type installs between the strainers and the engines (see Aqualarm). An alternative type installs on the exhaust hoses just after the raw water injection point (see Borel Manufacturing). Note that electric raw water pumps for main engines are not common and may have reliability issues. They are relatively cheap and easy to install and will give you a bit more time before the engines overheat.
im gonna program a failsafe into the holley ECU around the water temps, and if they arent within spec, ill shut the engines down, and then we can look into the cooling. I put flow alarms in one of my race cars and it was just a waste of an input because once it started flowing, it always worked
17:42 Milwaukee has done a great job of getting that red marker onto half the workbenches in this country. Very impressive what their tool line has accomplished in the last ten years.
(Okay....I'll sit back down now and stop interrupting the movie).
MD 20/20 in the fridge 😂, was the first thing I got drunk off of 20 years ago!
First thing I barfed my brains out on decades ago 😂
It's none of my business either way, but happy to see Chelsea! Been hoping you guys are still together and happy. Wishing you swift progress on the build!
I work for a marine company a few things use starboard when you can versus aluminum for the screens saves weight and never gets rusty or corroded also make sure those engines are bonded properly or you will have corrosion on them
Between those 30yo steel 300 gallon fuel tanks and the sketchy high pressure fuel system, I'd recommend a really good fume detector and automatic fire extiguishing system!
You should get a couple of LED bars for the engine bay, that bypasses your normal electrical, so that in an emerg you've got engine bay lighting. That, and raise the ECU's as high as possible against leaks. You need to give yourself time to fix a leak if it ever happens. 99% of the high cost of marine boats is the testing they go through to be safe under most common water incidents.
This was the only reason I subscribed to this channel years ago, it's been a long time coming for these.
6:40 That square screw head is Canadian and it's called a Robertson bit! Much better than a Phillips or Torx. Never slips and the bit hold the screw on the end of the driver without dropping at the least opportune time!
My trailer has them and I agree... I prefer them over the others.
It's very commonly used in domestic wiring.
The History Guy on youtube has a great video on the Robertson bit. Would recommend it!
Robertson is not as good as torx sorry. It’s a huge pain to index to bit into and causes them to take much longer to use. Driving them in takes twice as long as torx simply because of how much more work indexing the bit is. Torx self indexes really nicely.
@@ryan_layne That may be for new builds but I have stripped and bent many torx bits trying to work on things. I have yet to have any issue with the Robertson. I will admit though I only encounter Robertson on my Travel trailer which is typically wood so not really going to be too tight or rust.
Subscribed for this project 3 years ago! Can’t wait to see it running again
I can't wait to see you get this out on the water... All those updates and the new engines... this is basically a restomodded yacht. I love it.
Love the content. Can’t wait to see more progress of the builds. Excited to see the SEMA crunch
Ive been following you guys for a long time, I've been patiently waiting for the Boat project to get some love, and it looks as though you guys have come through again. Nice Job, MUCH respect from Northern New Jersey !
Chelsea returns! I've been curious how she's doing! Great progress on da boat! (always a filter pre-pump and a finer filter post-pump! First filter protects the pumps, second protects the injectors! (Many aftermarket injectors no longer have basket screens)
I'm in Texas working on a ac unit I needed a break. I. Glad you posted something about the boat. Needed a good break.
Pressure pumps are not good at sucking through "normal" injection filters that protect injectors. If you use a prepump filter (which isn't a bad idea to protect the pump) it should be more of a fuel strainer, ie flow more easily.
Finally! Been waiting forever to see those engines in place and running. Good job 👏🏻
Managed to catch this minutes after you uploaded. I'm so excited to see the new engines in the boat and hear them run! I'm happy for you and glad this project is coming along!
I've been waiting for this one for a while. Love all the projects but this one has me a bit more excited. Can't wait to see the yacht back in the water. Looking forward to next episode. Triple checked my 🔔 notification. 😆
Nice job, guys! The fuel should through the filter first then to the pump so you make sure no sediment damages the pump.
I’m pumped for more boat content! I hope you get creative with the interior remodel. I’d also like to see a payoff on refrigerator duty!!!
Can't wait to see the sea trial of this beauty!! I'm glad that the boat content is such a success for you, because I am so excited to see more of it!
How are those Holly Pro's in sunlight? From the video they looked super dim. I know its incredibly hard to get an LCD screen that is bright enough for outdoor use.
If you have the ability to modify the gauges, using white faced gauges might be the way to go.
or get a nice shade over them for the sun maybe?
one came from factory ( or maybe my racecar i took it out of ) at 50% brightness, but overall they look great. We cranked them up to 100% and i love it
Hope u pay Oscar well he literally does all the work and probably carries the channel
I know you're doing the best you can with this boat project and I have to say I love it when I see a new episode come out on this project. It'll be really nice to see the boat get some cleaning and attention once those engines are in a place where you're happy with how they're running. I can't even imagine the time and attention it takes to really get this right so that you don't find yourself stranded on water again.
Great job, great episode and from a viewer who watched the very first reveal episode, it's so cool to see the evolution of progress over the years.
So cool to see those thing running. I been wanting to see them run for a long time now. I also can't believe how quiet they are. Can't wait to see it in the water now.
keep em coming. keep in mind, fuel is very explosive down in the engine compartment, plz install a blower or two that run automaticly for two minutes when you put the assesories on :D
You need to make sure those fuel pumps are ignition protected for marine use. Coast guard will have a field day with you if they are not. Great build man... You've come a long way from backyard repairs congrats!
and alternators, electric raw water pumps, spark aresters on air intakes etc.
@@kenwallace8035Are spark arrestors required with fuel injection? My last boat was injected but I don't remember spark arrestors. It's been over 10 years so I can't remember exactly.
Everything about this is unsafe. None of this is USCG approved. I pray that he doesn’t have an explosion in that engine room.
@@BackyardBoatworks Every engine accessory is off of an USCG approved engine, from alternators to starters to batteries, every single thing is from a mass manufactured marine engine with the same concerns.
@@BisforBuild well then I stand corrected. I wasn’t aware that sniper setup, ECU pumps etc were USGC approved. I know Holley makes a 2300 TBI kit that’s approved but they never offered the fuel pump that was approved.
I’m assuming you’re planing to replace the ONAN diesel generator with a shielded gas version or a diesel version that has shielded electronics ? You can’t have a non shielded genset in the same compartment as a gas engine. The non shielded ONAN will be an ignition source for gas fumes.
I've really been looking forward to you all getting the Yacht running! So excited to see it in the water again!
Can't wait to see this boat on the water again. Been following this build from the day you bought it! Super cool!
Wow it has really been that long! So happy we are getting back to the boat!
I would guess the cans froze last winter, ruptured due to ice expansion, then melted and leaked.
In Astoria, OR? Naw. Plus they are inside a fridge which is insulated.
fuckin cans
@@Dmanpeterson It does occasionally get below freezing there, and it probably doesn’t take too long for the fridge to equalize temperature when it’s already sitting at ambient.
You should install one of them race-car fire suppression systems in the engine area. Being a custom setup, both you and your insurance may be happy to have it as a backup!
Had to pause 14:06 in the video to make a suggestion. Use clear plexiglass for your dash panel, have some “B is for Build” artwork painted on the backside so that it shows through.
If you are ever wondering how the filter is supposed to work just remember it is called a fuel pump not a Fuel Pull
Yep. "Push" fuel through the filter like a car does. You will wear out the pumps earlier if you don't.
Mad Dog 20/20...this boat deserves better than that!
Lol, I pointed out the Mad-Dog to my wife. Not what you think to find on a million $$ yatch😂
hey.... i dont know how it got there, but im not mad about it :p
Glad to see progress on the boat!! I catch a car vid every now and then, but when I see a boat episode I get right on it! Looking forward to seeing it back on the water!
Hell yeah! Even watched the ad to make sure you gettin that sponsorship money.
When your refrigerator is not in use, you always leave the door open for ventilation
100% ... Two Insane Engines but Drinks in Fridge for 3 years ... Love It
Someone forgot to do the storage checklist
you have to remember when we pulled this boat out of the water it was the start of covid and we thought we would be back in the water within a few months, covid + other supply chain issues, plus personal issues made that alot longer. So we didnt really ever know how long it was going to be sitting
@@BisforBuildjust for future reference, you should open the fridge door whenever it with be powered down for more than 2-3 days less in a hot summer
I feel sorry for Oscar on that fridge clean. I thought definitely someone was eating those chips to see if they were still good, lol.
Awesome vid lads, love the boat content ,,cheers Uk
Wouldn't hurt to mount the ecu's higher if possible. I would've guessed pushing through the filter. A pressure pump is much better at pushing through a restriction than sucking through a restriction
Finally! This boat is how I found your channel and why I started watching but your passion is why I continue! Thanks!
"Syke, we had two Cummins diesel engines built for the boat" is not something ill be expecting
YAY more boat stuff, for the next episode B is for BOAT!
Hey B. I started watching your videos waay back to driveway builds with the plan b brz and bought a key chain from you. Love your videos and glad to see the boat coming back together
I want to say how aweso.e it is that you have employee's that love what they do and strive for greatness! They care about their work and they are passionate about their projects!
Check, or better yet replace all thru hall fittings ,>they may not leak when you first put in the water , but trust me they will leak ….
I've been waiting for this project. Thanks for sticking with it
Good to see you back finish on the boat. Hopefully will be on the water this year.
I just want to say. In this video Oscar was clearly the person that worked the most. Then you made him clean your mess that you let happen in your boat. Oscar should get paid extra.
You have no idea what he gets paid and nor should you comment unless you do know
It was evil genius to put the disgusting cleanup deed to chance for a problem he irresponsibly created for not cleaning out his non-functioning vessel without giving the winner any additional reward unless he was prepared to let each person keep their lottery winnings for themselves that he purchased.
main thing. he's getting paid.....
if he wasn't happy with there arrangement doubt he'd be there
They made a bet bro calm down 😂
So excited for the boat content!
LonSeal Marine flooring is marine grade flooring used by a lot of high end boat manufacturers these days. I just installed some of their Teak and Holley in my 38’ SeaRay. It’s basically glorified laminate, but cleans very easy and looks great!
I am so happy for you all in this level of progress. You have an amazing setup and can’t wait to see it hit the water. Whatever time you think it will take.. triple it :-)
Are the lcd screens water resistant? Do you think a glass cover for protection will help? great content always!!!!!
Not only that, I’m worried they won’t be able to be seen with full sun on them plus that glare. I love this project and the direction they’re going, i just think they’re gonna have to address this stuff.
The salt air is going to destroy those things quickly if the circuit boards are completely potted and water proof.
Being touch screen they can have much more than a screen protector on them no glass cover
Chris since you are switching to from Diesel did you wire in an air pump to pump the gasoline fumes out of the bildge?? If you don't put on in then you run the risk of an explosion.
This is 100% the most important thing that needs doing before those engines run
this is my favorite project of all time. i never thought it would be when you first bought the boat. keep the content coming.
So excited to finally see this thing come together! Really cool stuff🤘.
I'm curious if the space rental and travel was more or less expensive than just towing the boat back to the shop to work on it there.
A trailer for a boat like that would extremely expensive. Also most dont have enough room to put a 40’+ boat in their yard.
With how long its been sitting, it would have been cheaper to one way it on a truck. But the boats as big or bigger than the shop they started out in.
@@ZL8R I don't disagree it would be expensive, but would it have been more cost effective? Cancer obviously threw a GIGANTIC monkey wrench in the works, but ???? Is the slip in Portland still under contract
, too??? It all goes to a bottom line.
its always been a huge expense, but just so you guys can get an idea of it. The boat is 1/10 the cost of the shop each month. It sucks to pay, but it all sucks to pay, and thats why we have sponsors in so many episodes, its not like im getting rich, im just making ends meet so we can keep or projects going. It would have been cool to bring the boat back to the 2022 shop, but then like 10 cars would have been sitting outside and getting ruined, so instead we paid the fees. Im glad you asked though so i could explain it all.
Can't be without the MD 20/20!!
Love this series and its exciting to see you back at it. Also, what a gorgeous vessel.
So glad to see this project back recently. Been wayyyyy to long. Please focus on this more! Most of the reason I subscribe!
Now that summers 3/4 over 😂
hey i tried!
You guys need to get a new refrigerator. They are relatively cheap today and far more efficient than that ancient relic. You'll also feel better keeping anything in it after looking at what's there currently.
I'd add some weather stripping and/or gasket around the backside of that dash gauge cut-out and/or the holley screens to protect from any weather that hits the helm.
Replace the carpet with teak flooring!
Oskar is the B is for Build G.O.A.T. great to see Chelsea once again all owned and operated by Chris!
Finally another video!
Pretty certain you always want the pumps to push fuel through the filters. Looking forward to seeing this in the water.
But then any crap from the tank goes through the pump? I'd rather have filtered fuel going through my pump.
@@nickmaclachlan5178 That's why there are socks on the pickup. Pumps are good at pushing but crap at pulling, that's why they can be so difficult to prime. Pulling fuel through the filter risks loss of pressure and potential damage from running lean, especially when the filter gets dirty. When you push fuel through the filter you have 60+ psi forcing it through. When you pull through the filter, the pump creates a vacuum, so it's the atmosphere that's actually pushing the fuel, giving you at best (but in reality less) 14.5 psi to move it through.
Glad to see the FJ still in working condition, it’s the reason I started watching this channel!
Great job guys! It’s not easy to do what you doing with that boat, but also record and make excellent content on UA-cam is outstanding! Best regards from Sweden
Fuel pump filter had a flow arrow on it, So I assume the setup you have is correct as it is. I’d also move them ECUs as high as poss 😊
Man I hope those engines last but I just don't think LSX engines are going to be reliable in there seeing as how boats are run at a constant full throttle a lot of the time
Really? You realize ppl have been doing this kinda thing 4 decades with gm v8s aftermarket forged internals he should be good. Texas speed fully built them they arent junkyard LSX's
@@captaintoyota3171There is quite a bit of difference between automotive and marine GM/Ford/Chrysler engines, no? They're specifically built to withstand static RPMs for long durations. Yes, people put automotive engines in boats, but that's usually for performance applications and not a lumbering 42' yacht.
@@JB-mk4ry Pretty sure Texas Speed knew they were building marine engines for this application, so ya know, maybe they know what they're doing?
@@JB-mk4ry Agricultural engines would come close
@nickmaclachlan5178 time will tell but there is a reason boats like this run 2 big ass diesel engines
I've been collecting all these videos, saving them. I'm stoked to see this thing all done and cutting water!
At about 12 knots at WOT…
Love your stuff, and the longer episodes are awesome, thank you
Really disappointed you aren't starting these videos with B is for Boat 😢
Worst idea ever. Diesel fuel vapor isn’t nearly as dangerous as gasoline fuel vapor. So many gasoline related explosions on boats.
What part? Because theres plenty of boats with gas engines
@@captaintoyota3171 Usually outboard on smaller boats I believe
Gas vapors are a big problem on a boat. You are supposed to run some ventilation pumps before starting. Also is the Alternator and Starter marine grade (no sparks). Lots of questions and concerns. I would not be in the engine bay when starting for the first time. Safety First.
So glad to hear both engines fire, progress!!
Its about damn time. I be waiting on the edge of my seat for your videos. The sole reason i even open youtube most days
This boat is about to have a fuel range of 15 miles
And go 15 mph.
That whole wood idea is a failure from multiple points. Your ECU's should be as high as possible, including any wiring. If water makes it in your engine compartment, chances of ECU failure rises exponentially.
Super stoked for you. Can’t wait to see in the water testing. Congrats.🏆💐
32:02 - you might want to consider buying some 6” elide fire suppression grenades. They’re super good for tight hard to reach areas. They can put out a fire in a matter of seconds; which is crucial when you’re out at sea. Just a precaution I’d pass along especially with a new system 😁
Fuel pressure most likely dropped while the engine is running due to a vacuum referenced fuel pressure regulator.
Honestly clicked hoping that new engines meant that new diesels were going in. Love the channel and the people but this decision was probably the worst on the channel.
I agree, swapping diesel engines for gas engines is a HUGE step back. Plus the added hazard makes it even worse.
Worse than the shifter position in the lambo? 😂
He will learn real quick once this gets on the water that it was a huge mistake. I really hope he kept the diesels and can still get the other one fixed in case he changes his mind.
I can’t wait to hear about how inefficient these things are…
nice, congrats on the engine start milestone. looking forward to seeing how she runs in the water
Good seeing you tonight Chris! Didn’t know if you do pictures with fans, but was dope seeing you out in the neighborhood. All the blessings your way brother.
B is for Boats
man I hope this ends well.
