Taped a little bit of the exterior queue, showing some props used in the Flintstones.
You enter the first theater which has photographs of the 1906 San Francisco earthquake. A casting director is here to welcome you. Then he/she would select a few people from the audience to take part in a reenactment scene from the Earthquake film. Someone from the audience would also be selected to perform a "stunt" as well.
Then you enter the next theatre and watch a small film hosted by Charlton Heston explaining how all the effects were created in the Earthquake movie. After the film is done the screen rises to reveal a porton of the actual scale model that was used in the movie.
The third theater is where all the selected guests from the pre-show perform the reenactments, which included an escalator in a shopping mall and the "stunt" guest falls down a collapsed stairwell.
Finally, you enter the subway set and experience the ride attraction.
Earthquake closed November 5, 2007 was replaced with Disaster!: A Major Motion Picture Ride...Starring You! on January 17, 2008.
More videos and pictures to come in the future!
who else is going through all the old Orlando rides and getting nostalgic feels
this ride taught me a lot about movie making as a kid, it was excellent
I love the parts when the truck slides down and when the train derails
I rode this as a kid in the 90s. I was terrified of both fire and bodies of water, so you can imagine how well I liked this ride.
I have an odd memory of me crying here and something with the grinch and ET lol
?
Charlton Heston, still one the greatest and most distinctive voices of all time.
I loved the smell of that ride.
Me too
+Nyonben ME THREE
Another great classic gone being replaced by another screen based ride 😞
Andrew Fontanez ikr! I hope the fast and furious has some interaction acting stuff like earthquake and dastster
+Nyonben Same
My cousin Jessica was selected to be one of the people in the shopping mall part, where the earthquake "destroys" the set. It was really cool watching her be in something like that, even if it was only a ride. RIP Earthquake.
went on this when I was like 6 it was traumatizing!!!
Yay on my birthday too!! (: you uploaded on my b-day (:
Thanks for uploading this, it brought back so many memories of when i went on this during my first and last visit to Universal in 2001 when i was 4 or 5. This ride was one of the few ones i remember pretty clearly (along with the Jaws one and the Tornado one) :)
They tore this down for fast and the furious supercharged. Let that sink in
wow that last bit was wicked
This ride looks awesome, but all I can think about is once the people were moved out of the final scene how it had to reconstruct itself.
Same!!!! That's so crazy
+Mads Robison they had cables and pistons to move them back in place
SkeletonCreeper03 I didn't mean "how" as in "how they did it," I'm just picturing the destruction resetting itself for the next show. It makes me laugh.
Oh. I seen it and it was amazing. It is like time reversed😂😂
I went on it when I was 13. It was the BEST!! Now that I'm 35 I want to introduce my son to it
This is an awesome video!! I love this attraction. My favorite part is at 11:10 :) Thanks for uploading!!
Great video!
@KyFriedPlatypus Thanks! Back in 2002 I bought Sony's top of the line Digital8 camera. Threw me in debt for a while but worth it! :)
This used to scare the fuck out of me. It’s all about the “train conductor” too. If they got in to it it made this experience more amazing.
I'm with you on this. Out of all the rides, including jaws, this was my childhood ptsd ride. It's not what you can control or fight against....it's what you can't like natural disasters...never the less 90s UNIVERSAL STUDIOS was killing the game #nostalgia
Eerie fact: later that night after the park, we went back to the resort slept only to find out when we woke up the next day that we slept through a very minor actual earthquake I think they call em tremors. Palsm springs California 96'
I wish Universal Studios had more rides like these instead of a car going through rooms with 3D screens or 4D theaters
Amazing how much better the Florida version is than the Hollywood one. This one is almost believable, the other one looks, from videos, to be not worth even going on.
That part where the stunt person had to fall down the staircase, my aunt volunteered, and it scared the absolute shit out of my younger cousin when she was about 5 years old. Hilarious.
11:02 this oil tanker truck is actually a ford t906 semi truck with one axle
i yelled "CHOO CHOO! ALL ABOARD THE CRAZY TRAIN!" when the subway comes and splits in half. my cousin was like "oh my god you' re physic!" lol i had no idea! i was like 10
Gregory's Scream is really funny. "AAAAaaah! *Boof*"
scary
Probably too late to respond, but I'd say 13 years old would be the absolute perfect age for this ride.
This is awesome quality for 2002! Looks like you just filmed it yesterday.
my dad was pointing all of this stuff while I was having a complete meltdown!!!
Why were you haveing a meltdown
Were you actually on fire and melting ?
i loved this ride
The embarcadero is based off of a real life station in San fransico BUT they got the stations design wrong
It’s really a singular island style platform design with only 1 singular platform in the middle
This design. Is two side platforms with one in the middle
Obviously it’s to make space so when the roof falls it dosent literally crush the roof of the open are subway train
And it keeps them out of harms way
That train would come closer back in 02'!!!!! So much fun
I was 11 when I went into it, and it was really fun until the ater started to pour into everywhere, but remember its a ride! Its all for fun and I'm 13 now and I wanna go on it again, promise me! In November I'm going again. Have funn!
When you wish you were a movie star
RIP Charlton Heston!
Were those Flintstones Movie Props being displayed? Strangest place to put them in.
am I the only one who got universal studios ad before vid
I went on this back when I was 9, extremely fun...
Just because it is old doesn't mean it has to go! Anyway, you are walking because they are pretending that you are on a movie set! People like the ride/performance about making a movie. I believe it is a great activity!
I've been to Universal ONCE and I sadly never got to ride this but it's definitely my favorite ride in the park. :D Is that weird?
@UniversalEvolution YAY! (: thanks.
I was i think twelve or eleven when i went on this ride......i was cryin my eyes out, lol. i was a scardy cat back then......still am.... haha. it was 2005 or 2006 im not sure haha.
Nice video
Really? 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, If You Had Wings, Dreamflight, Mission to Mars, Alien Encounter, Timekeeper, Mr. Toad's Wild Ride, Skyway, Mickey's Revue, Magic Journeys, Snow White's Scary Adventures, Journey into Imagination, Body Wars, Cranium Command, Kitchen Kabaret, Food Rocks, World of Motion, Horizons, Communicore, The Living Seas, Backlot Tour, Animation Tour, and that's just to name a few.
Earthquake is not gone you guys it is still the same ride in Disaster they just got rid of the
props from other movies i know you guys miss Chalton Heeston the host i do too i still call
Disaster "Earthquake".
My heart stopped when I went on this
My parents let me go on this when i was 4 or 5 the first and last time i went to Universal Orlando in 2001. So probably :)
cool
For us, in Singapore, we literally have a boat flying through the ceiling. It's on fire too.
Why does it sound different in the earthquake station
if you think thats scary watch the revenge of the mummy
Why exactly did the train derail?
okay I accept that
RCgaming01 Maybe the track got thrown out of place?
+RCgaming01 To give the attraction a bit of the fear factor. If you weren't scared shitless already, then getting derailed is scary as all hell!!
Gage Pfister The image of that thing sticking its nose right for you is probably the most freaky imagery in the ride to me. :D
+PixarShark Yeah! Too bad the ride closed :( I liked the original better though.
I think it's because there's more of an element of care and respect there than in universal. Don't get me wrong, universal is fine, that's just what I think.
10:17 what was that ?
Oh don’t worry that’s probably the ghost of a passenger or a employee of the golden gate transit who died in a subway crash years ago and if you look closely you will probably see his ghost
May be a tornado is destroying the roof collapse??
they should rename this the hurricane sandy simulator
no its been psudo replaced (read redressed) by Disaster!: A Major Motion Picture Staring You. All they did was add some tv screens, change the audio and new preshow.
i went on the new verson and i got to be on the show it was amazing
Awwww why did you never make a full backup of the earthquake the ride D:
Do you have the revamp version?
Just saying, 2002 wasn't the stone age or anything. There were HD cameras if you could afford them. If this was 1992, that'd be another story.
yes that was the old name I got to go on while the old name however it was just the train/roller coaster part for us video part 9:33 until end of video(this one)
This is the middle end of the ride.
did you went to universal orlando in november 22 2002
Truck falls down, and burst into flames
@iluvSpectacular011 haha nice, it was meant to be!
Is this still there??? I'm going there in November and just wanted to know because it looks awesome.
Sadly no.
I am going on it because it was fun and cool
Is Disaster: Major Motion Picture Ride better than Earthquake the Big One?
I Pay attention to the incoming train.
Childhood
11:27
It's like your making a movie
10:03 always scared me
Disaster Will Be Replaced By A B&M Indoor Inverted Roller Coaster Themed To The Crow (1994 Film)
Lit
Never notice the fake buildings above the truck!
okay okay! i kept saying,"Pick me! Pick me! Right here! HERE!"
i never got picked :(
Came here because Disaster Ride closed for good. I had to see the original! :(
Found out today...
Same.
+Candis Barbosa I so mad I didn't know Disaster was closing
Don't you like this ride?
isnt that what is now Disaster?
Uh oh!!! 9:55
@CheerGirlpower
It's not that scary. A thirteen year old will enjoy it :)
1989
10:50 Nobody: The Truck Slides To The Station
that ride is now disaster at universal studios orlando i think anyway
jack hartley Yep.
+jack hartley (jackdoesminecraft) Now it isn't anything
Matt561 but we get a fast and furious ride now :D to replace it
I have a feeling it's going to be a lot like the Transformers ride
Matt561 yeah maybe or completely different
Scene in real life: 9:33
I went on it when I was 5....
the low cost mmmmmmhmmm
ikr?! they take out jaws but not this!? :O I MISS JAWS!!! D:
+Beanie Boo - They took out both rides, for pretty much the same reasons. Too complicated mechanically, and stuff broke down all the time. It was getting just too expensive to maintain. I wish I had rode on it; I would have liked to compare it to a real "substantial" quake like the one I was in back in '89 (Loma Prieta).
I was terrified of the jaws ride. Scary as ever.
scary i went in 1991
i was born in 2002
now its all about CGI animation lol
There is Jurassic Park.
jocker
That movie is 40 years old. No wonder they got rid of it. Everything is GCI nowadays.
they've (universal orlando) closed a lot and recycled and demolished many classic attractions over the years...anyone else notice that wdw never just closes attractions? or never just kills them off
It's just a movie 😒
disaster is better
it is disaster
