Growing up in Florida in the early 90s was a truly unique experience for a kid. The fact that theme parks like Universal and some Disneyworld parks opened throughout my childhood and all the times I got to go, when most kids get to go to Disney world maybe once or twice in their lives.... Really a large part of why my childhood was so happy..
THIS was the one I rode! I knew I went to Universal at least once when I was little! Can't remember what age though. Although I do remember being traumatized... Thanks mom.
The new King Kong ride they are building in Islands of Adventure should be a re-make of Kongfortation. But sadly, it's another 360 degree virtual rollercoaster thing...
Note all that stuff from a "channel 9"- the real channel 9 in New York (well, Secaucus NJ) was actually owned by MCA/Universal at the time the ride was constructed; they had purchased it from the notoriously-corrupt RKO General, which was being forced to sell their stations. Real graphics were used, and allegedly, their main anchor at the time, Rolland Smith (the "fighting the frizzies" guy) anchored the reports. Those graphics were retained even after MCA spun it off in 1991 (due to MCA being bought by Panasonic, and FCC rules forbid foreign concerns from owning more that 25% of a TV station); WWOR bounced around a couple times before ending up with Fox.
It was great (I visited in 97 and 99, so around when this video was made). Jaws and Back to the Future were awesome too. Universal Florida is not the same park now.
velociraptor4you Islands of Adventure is the better park now (I went there in 99 also when it was brand new), it has a far better selection of attractions and theming. Also they are building a (rumored) new Kong ride there.
THEremiXFACTOR "Jurassic Park," that's the main reason why I wanna go to Islands of Adventure. I'm a HUGE "Jurassic Park" fan! :) I gotta look into this, to see if they really are building a Kong attraction there. If so, THAT would be awesome. :)
2:23 That's From The 1976 King Kong Movie!!!!!!!! That Makes Sense! Because This Ride The King Kong Ride & This Ride is Based On The 1976 King Kong Movie! That is So Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D
there was a new king kong attraction slash experience that was made inspired by the 2005 peter jacksonm but it was only the modern daty verision of the backlot tour at universal studios in holly wood California.
Practical kills 3D every time hard to describe seeing a huge annamatronic compared to a 3D screen that huge ape is more memorable then anything they have now but it was hard to contain
If this ride is based on the 1975 remake, why doesn't the mighty Kong look anything like from the remake? They just went and created a completely new design that doesn't look like any if the designs of the movies! But it is a cool design.
Spinlok I'm hoping it was a lot different at night, when the audience consisted mostly of adults. The Jaws attraction was definitely different at night than in the day, when there were likely to be kids on the ride.
The conductor on this one's acting was kinda weak (but I guess that's what happens when you do those lines like 10 times in a row) and he sounds a little like Bently from Sly Cooper lol

Imagine if Universal where gutsy enough to remake all the old rides!? I'd be booking tickets in no time. Universal would have it's magic back!
Every time I watch these old and classic rides I can't help but think what the ride attendants are doing now lol.
watching this video.... haha
Watching this video lol, same here Danny! I work for the Government now. I loved working here!
I'm no expert, but I would think they'd go on to tend newer rides. I could be wrong though.
So much better than Reign of Kong.
True
my mom took me on this ride when I was 4 years old, & omg she traumatized the heck out of me!! lol
I always loved this ride as a kid. I always thought it was so cool how they made a real life looking city inside this building.
Much much much better than the new one
It's not running yet??
Kongfrontation in Orlando was inspired by the King Kong Encounter in Hollywood. Both no longer exist.
THIS was the one I rode! I knew I went to Universal at least once when I was little! Can't remember what age though. Although I do remember being traumatized... Thanks mom.
My little brother spent the entire ride with his head buried in my father's armpit.
Jignasty5 Me too!! xD!
Man the new Kong ride at IOA sucks compared to this.
You and me both
Im really impressed with the video quality.

+Deadshot Studios That's partially true, as there is rumored to be a Kong animatronic that follows your vehicle!
+Sgt Awk That's the problem with the new rides, you could experience it at home with a 3D TV...you can't have 30 ft. animatronic in your house.
+Sgt Awk No it's not, it's basically that plus a whole lot more, it's an over 4 minute ride.
+Sgt Awk
With 3D glasses and lockers beforehand of course...
+Sgt Awk Actually it's not a coaster its just a new 3d ride
I miss that ride it was my favorite when I was little it need to come back because it short lived :(
I miss this ride! I wish they had brought it back instead of what we got.
what are you talking about? the mummy ride rocks! but i understand losing a beloved ride

The best Kong ride ever, based on the best film.... the 1976 film.
Me & my family still haven't made it down to Orlando yet, so yeah, we missed this ride. Sigh. If only we had gone to Orlando sooner...

THEremiXFACTOR I know. I've kept up on how much it's changed through TV and the Internet. It's mind-blowing for sure.

Love these type of vintage footage goes back into the archives
Pictures Of James D. Rolfe With King Kong In 98 At Universal Studios Florida
The details in the ride are ASTOUNDING!
great video. revenge of the mummy took its place great ride but I miss the old kong
So this Kong formation was the attraction at Universal Studios Florida that open in 1990 and closed in 2002.
2:23 That's From The 1976 King Kong Movie!!!!!!!! That Makes Sense!
Because This Ride The King Kong Ride & This Ride is Based On
The 1976 King Kong Movie! That is So Awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D
Would you like to see it come back
Andrew Fontanez YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =D
@@MrParkFan 1933
I remember something like this in hollywood
It was destroyed in the fire that engulfed the backlot in 2008.
I rode king kong ecounter as a young child. I was scared shitless.
This Use To Scare Me So Badly When I Was Little!
MK1MonsterOck1989 same here I was screaming bloody murder on this ride
Chris O'Rourke Yeah This Got Me Scared to Death of King Kong
When I Saw Him For The First Time
+Chris O'Rourke but that just adds to the atmosphere doesnt it? Wouldn't little kids be screaming like that if this was real?
I wish I could’ve experienced this.

Can I use this for a video?
This tour guide was really bad.
Was this based on the 1976 movie or the 1933 movie?
I remembered going on king Kong frontation when I was younger I was scared of it my mom was even more scared of it ,and held my dad really tight.
If this ride is based on the 1975 remake, why doesn't the mighty Kong look anything like from the remake? They just went and created a completely new design that doesn't look like any if the designs of the movies! But it is a cool design.
it was a nice atraction but its sad that they didnt use the sounds affect of the 1977 movie from king kong him self
Thumbnail that's like When kong is 2 years old
I went in 1998... I was 12 and I remember thinking it was lame...
out of all honesty the thumbnail looks horrifying
This ride looked like it was pretty cool but did it REALLY need to have a narrator? All he did was act like captain obvious the whole time.
Spinlok I'm hoping it was a lot different at night, when the audience consisted mostly of adults. The Jaws attraction was definitely different at night than in the day, when there were likely to be kids on the ride.
Spinlok Not to mention a lousy actor.
+Martin Tony Jaws and Jurassic park are the best at night.
Did the mummy replace this
I on that ride before it closed
The conductor on this one's acting was kinda weak (but I guess that's what happens when you do those lines like 10 times in a row) and he sounds a little like Bently from Sly Cooper lol
But never rode king Kong skull island at island's of adventure and I've heard mixed reviews of it.
KONGFRONTATION UNIVERSAL STUDIOS FLORIDA VS SPACE ACE DON BLUTH
ORLANDO RESORT 1998
The only difference is in Hollywood kong got a second chance
+Steve Padios New Kong ride comming next year to IOA
Florida's following suit as well, although it's in the other park.
😅😅😅😅😅
Brilliant attraction but terrible tram operator (actor), there are other videos of better tram operators out there.
