    We did a video on a product similar to this in Canterbury New Zealand using barley as the sprouting grain. The farmer we talked to said that the beef animals did take a few days to get used to it but really loved it after a few days. The system is easy to use, requires little manual input and one of the biggest advantages (not mentioned) is water saving, imagine how much water would go into irrigation of 1000kg plus of grass per day. We shot some great footage of the animals running for there feed and devouring this like there was no tomorrow. Great system and so glad to see businesses like this exporting these products to the world. Keep on innovating!

  • @lynnmoss572
    @lynnmoss572 6 років тому +7

    So many people here saying you can't raise pigs like this. Of course you can, regardless of breed. I raise pasture pork on no grain at all by feeding them hydroponic sprouts instead.
    Young sprouts are more nutrient dense than dry grain because the sprouting process activates the amylase enzyme in the seeds which makes less digestible nutrients more readily available. Pigs can't digest cellulose in mature grass just like humans can't do so, but if you feel a week-old grass sprout compared to mature grass, I'm guessing you'll realize the difference. Further, sprouted grass from feed grains and legumes is very different from what you'd find in your lawn or even a typical pasture.
    Anywho, unless you're a pig farmer, sit down and shut up.

    I was working on a system like this back in the 1980's. The idea is the same but we had a little different type of setup. We had to watch our temperature and humidity. One person got greedy and on a weekend came into the office and stole all the documents and was not heard from again. It would be nice to think that this setup is an out growth of what I was working on back then.

    As a dairy farmer couple of questions one do you have studies showing how beef graded out on fodder as opposed to traditional methods of feeding/grazing? Two on the dairy side what about milk quality/quantity? As well the effects on reproduction breeding back is a very important aspect of the economics of beef/dairy hence the reason farmers went to a TMR ration controlling mineral protein and energy in the animal diets. Now granted you can free choice mineral and I'm sure you could grow alfalfa, brome etc if need be but not on the same mat which is more time consuming to feed separate mats as well as more difficult to balance a ration. I am definitely not bashing the system I see the good in it but these are questions you need to be able to answer in order to claim its both sustainable and more economical for livestock operations. Guys running 100 plus head of cattle especially dairy guys are very very critical of feed rations if you can not provide hard evidence that milk production, components, fertility, liver function etc will not be compromised and production cost will be cheaper then you are going to have a hard time in this space. Once again love the idea and would love to see some data on how it actually can sustain my herd and be more profitable but need some numbers other 90 percent digestible bc that doesn't equate to performance necessarily.
