- Can a 1 litre turbo JDM nugget developed in the 1980's keep up with a modern 2 litre BRZ? Today we find out just how far technology has come in 30 years by going through a series of challenges including a drag race and a skid challenge with our 2013 Subaru BRZ up against the 1990's JDM classic, Nissan March SuperTurbo.

Mighty Car Mods the brz is a completely different feel/car with a quarter tank full instead of completely full - something to think about if you haven’t already given it a go - 1st to 2nd is pretty fun

They're ragging on the 86/BRZ. For the brake test, you barely spend that much time in 2nd gear to hit 60kph in the BRZ. He's sandbagging so the super turbo wins. But it's all for fun and LOLs..... Love how the video makes it 'just' over the 10min monetize length 😁😜😂

Back then it was Marty with the Subaru and Moog with the Nissan and now its the other way around. MCM has gone full circle, and it's awesome!

That the March Super Turbo lifts the inside rear wheel makes it a winner in my book.
I honestly can't tell you two how envious I am of you both. Not because of the fame and everything that comes along with it, but because you both get to spend your lives doing what you love. I am a heavy truck driver in the oilfield of the US and I have days that I just hate my job and don't want to wake up early, drive an hour and a half to work, just to be disrespected and taken advantage of. The old saying goes, "life is what you make of it," and I have two beautiful sons and an adoring wife, so my personal life is awesome, but I sincerely hate my profession. You two have fought and clawed your way up among the top of the automotive UA-cam channels and not too many people can say that. Almost everyone that I've talked to about your channel over the years knows about it, even the oldheads. I'm telling you guys, y'all have definitely got it made. P.S. I've been here watching since the OLD days back when y'all were working out of Marty's mum's driveway wrenching on the OG SuperTurbo.

This is golden standard for MCM. Simple and fun. I don't need to have few weeks of fabricated "duel" and "vs" theme for episodes. It sometimes even falls flat in the final episode. I would like to see more of "against the odds" episodes where both of you try some new things instead of battles. Or just take some of your cars on road trip and content will create itself :)
Having had many under powered front wheel drive cars, I found reverse donuts very entertaining and funny.

Love the SuperTurbo but I have a feeling Marty’s speedo is a bit off at 80km/h and he’s braking a little earlier than the BRZ as a result. Love love love the March though 👌
parad0x666 - agree. The BRZ was launching slightly ahead and staying ahead. The Nissan seemed to “catch up” while they were on the brakes. I think the BRZ wins that battle if calibrated test equipment were used - however, the lil Nissan still wouldn’t have lost by much, which is impressive. More aggressive tires on the BRZ would make all the difference though, and the absolute best first mod. (I put Pilot SS when I had mine. Funny enough, I put the BRZ tires on my bugeye WRX that I still had from 10 years prior, and it woke that bug up! Low traction tires on the WRX let the car accelerate without bogging down, and let the rear rotate better in corners instead of understeering like it had for 10 years! Also gained 2mpg in my WRX! Lost 2mpg in the BRZ with the Super Sports.)

Stephen E the Subaru already has RE003s on it (Firestone Firehawk in US). That said I agree, especially because the super turbo is running smaller tires than it used to!
Future go to woe challenges should use a Vbox for accuracy.

A guy in the next village to ours with no offspring promised his mint march turbo to his young nephew who has since grown up and become a city trader,he has made a fair few quid and built a big house for his parents and one for himself just outside their village.He runs around in a BMW 760 and has an R8 but a few weeks back I saw his March on his parents drive,the fact that he still owns it was the most satisfying part for me,still immaculate also. I drove a quite new one back in my main dealer days,I liked it and having only really R5 turbos as a comparison it quickly became clear that it was far more refined than the Renault in many ways and despite hating Micra's in general,I preferred it.

I'm looking at a new car aswell and considering it. But as much as i am a sucker for a good handling RWD car, i also enjoy power allot. And apparently you can't really do much to improve its power using bolt on mods and tunes, only the forced induction options seem to really bring the power out. So right now I'm leaning more towards a Megane RS, Clio RS, Focus ST or something Turbocharged like that. Because let's be honest, the GT86 is a really cool car and there's no denying it's ability to drift and bring the rear end out on the track, but using it as a daily driver would become allot less fun, you can't really make use of its handling characteristics around town . I live in South Africa, which means incredibly warm temperatures and high altitude, both very bad things for a naturally aspirated car's performance, so if people at sea level thought it was under powered, imagine how it will be here, i believe it was The Fast Lane Car that tested the 0 to 60 of a Subaru BRZ at one mile (1600m) above sea level on a warm day, with a single driver, and doing the best they could only yielded about a 9.5 second 0 to 60 or 0 to 96 kmh, that's very slow real word acceleration. Even worse, when they tested it in a different video at the same altitude, with two people in the car, they couldeven get a 0 to 60 of under 10 seconds. Not only that, but they showed that other cars like even the Mazda MX5 out accelerates the 86 for some reason, even at altitude, showing the 86 doesn't have a good motor. Besides all of that, where i live there are barely any race tracks, even less that allow people to bring their own cars and race on it. My routes will mostly consist of highways and around town driving. The roads we have here in south Africa also tend to be much longer open, straight country type roads in stead of twisty curving roads, so i see absolutely no reason to pick the 86 for the real world scenarios i will be having. There is a place in life for the 86, i just think its not always as great for daily driving as competitors
Anything can go fast as long as you throw money at it, I don't own one these but I've driven alot of jdm hero cars, driving my friends 86 was a surprise how well it handled but yeah it be nice if it had more power. If you like it buy it, it's good for the money imo.
Wait a bit the new one might have a turbo they made changes to the chassis

That March Super Turbo is something else, man. I honestly didn't know it was a K10 Micra at first, but it's easily the best version of it they ever made.
Superturbo won the "go to whoa", the BRZ won the drag race, and the superturbo by virtue of lifting a rear tire while doing skids won the burnout contest :)
This versus video just showed, even more, how cool both cars are.

I would like to see MCM team up with Skid factory to build a turbo K series accord or integra 👍
To help drag race the brz, hold down the traction control button for 3 seconds to turn off traction and anti skid control, and if you do pedal dance mode it turns even more traction control and anti skid off. It definitely helps with the bogging down at the beginning

I was thinking the same thing.. Maybe it's because they cut out the braking point so you can't see the 86 braking earlier. I wonder why they did that. Which is interesting because in the last video they said the 86 had quite good brakes, no comment like that for the Nissan.

Yea remember the Superturbo got smaller tires to keep them from rubbing. I don't believe it got up to the same speed as the BRZed. Need a Vbox for these tests really.

Owned a brz it spun a bearing at 72k miles powertrain warranty goes to 70k. Fa-20 engine is weak in many ways. Dropped a LS 1 from a gto/Holden in and it was awesome.

As a former Toyobaru owner, i will say that the BRZ/86 does lack power for what it looks like. But it’s tremendous fun to drive. It’s really an MX-5 alternative. From stock, they’re pretty similar. If you don’t want a convertible, get the 86 and be happy.
The supply of cheap RWD fun cars in the USA is surprisingly tight. We’re not drowning in imported JDM cars here, either.
If Toyota came out with a new 86 with a supercharger and a targa top that might tempt me out of my Mustang...
