This was a tough one. The villain was a man wanting to get revenge on his wife's killer, but killed many innocent lives in the process. Both were hard to root for because of the messed up things they did. Great writing. Both were villains in the end. Nick Cage was great in this movie.
The only good thing about his character is that he spared the female waitress because she admitted she was being a dick, and he understood that she was a broken woman so didn’t really think of killing her in that moment. She probably died in the fire
Oh, I was guessing that, she(the waitress) had most likely gotten away, even after he set the building on fire. She was not restrained in any way, or locked in the building,(as far as I could see anyway). Plus it was a single story building, so it would have been generally easier to run out of, than one where you'd have to go down a bunch of stairs. 🤷♀️ Who knows? I just like to think it turned out ok for someone in the movie that wasn't one of the villains. Lol. Seeing as the main characters were all pretty bad people.

So while I get that it can be unsatisfying and frustrating to watch, I do think it’s unreasonable to expect an average joe to go into survival mode. Normal people have and do get out of crazy situations everyday, but we still usually consider those people exceptions.

Well you’ve managed to get in my locked car somehow and I didn’t manage to escape my car because of reasons. We’re now on the road? Well I’ve always wanted to see how fast my car can go while weaving through traffic. Tons of cops on the road where I live. Gas? Nah, it honestly pisses me off to see my tank below at least a quarter full, I’ve been stuck on the side of the road twice because of people not filling their tanks, my car isn’t on E. Its not a badass keyboard warrior moment, it’s a dads last stand. This situation doesn’t have to end with me being alive, but it absolutely doesn’t end with only me dead.
You may say that there are many opportunities and the escape was easy but, keep in mind you're in a less tense situation and is not experiencing the same thing and his mind could be racing on why this was happening
I would have had an "accident" on the strip. Preferably running a red light while a car on the right was entering the intersection at a good speed because Big Red would have been more likely to get hurt than me. But would have settled for not slowing at a red light and rear ending someone. Then jumping out of the car and running. That would make him ether try to kill me and all witnesses or run off into the night. I think most would bail on whatever it was that they were doing. After seeing the movie big red probably would have killed the driver in front of me and steal that car

David could have run to the police car while Cage was killing the cop and used their radio. He would kinda be a sitting duck but he could at least tell them where his wife is and ask them to protect her. It was hard to suspend my disbelief when he didn't do ANYTHING at that moment, but knowing the end I assume he had two reasons for this: a) he felt guilty for what he'd done and wanted some closure b) he was afraid that any attempt to involve the police or other people would dig dirt on his past, so tried to deal with the situation without doing those things. After all, he's resourceful and probably has dealt with his fair share of threats to his life by now
The devil sure knows how to defeat the odds. There's no stopping him on whatever he wants to do. There's power and resilience that goes into everything he does.
