Especially with his older stuff, it might just sound like a wall of words and filler but in reality, everything means something and a great deal of enjoyment comes from decoding the lyrics and meaning.

    • @eugenecaudill5361
      @eugenecaudill5361 Рік тому +2

      His work is so textured. You don’t get a Aes song off the first listen. There’s meaning under meaning, and it’s done that way so the listener has to really tune in to get what’s going on.

  • @frost9681
    @frost9681 Рік тому +15

    Aesop Rock is excellent at making lyrics that are metaphorically many layers deep. This song is a perfect example. At first listen, it appears to be a song riffing off of the supernatural, weird and absurd. Which it absolutely is. But if you really contemplate the lyrics, break down each individual metaphor, you start to uncover a message about isolation, introversion, and leaving ones comfort zone. It is a song about trying to grow out of your comfort zone. Then, when you consider the song as a song about the supernatural and the weird, it becomes another layer of metaphor - whats outside your comfort zone can feel supernatural and scary. All that, combined with the whole album's message of mental health, you can see how many layers deep it starts to go. All of that on top of a great flow, beat, bars, etc. Aesop Rock takes MANY listens to fully understand his songs.

    Watch Dorks, and Dog at the Door
    It is about the Rap game.
    Aesop Rock has been doing this over 20 years.
    Appreciating his songs you have the initial react/video.
    Then you start to research, and break down what all is happening.
    Eventually you understand songs metaphor, similes, and you come to an understanding. All the layers congeal into almost like a stereo experience. It is like tripping, but drugs could get in the way.

    Personally would love to see what you thought of the song once you go through on your own and break down the lyrics. Aes is a fun listen and there’s a lot of great lyrical moments on surface listening but I think the best part of Aesop Rock is deciphering the lyrics and finding the deeper meanings, puns, metaphors, and double/triple entendres. The amount of thought this dude puts behind lyrics seems otherworldly sometimes… a lot of times

    • @losxdescabezados
      @losxdescabezados Рік тому

      I honestly don't think there's a better lyricist than him out there, now or ever. Granted, there's a TON of strong writers and amazing rappers but none have the depth that he does. It's not just the vocabulary, the metaphors, entendres or whatever else, it's just the fact that he can marry words together in such a way that it makes you paint all these pictures in your head and it all means something. It isn't a random collection of imagery and lyrics, it's a coherent story or message presented in an atypical way... just, dude is the 🐐

      @@losxdescabezados I tend to think it’s funny that the name Aesop Rock came to him through happenstance. The way he strings songs and even albums together really comes across like Aesops fables. For a song, there is tremendous amounts of world building and imagery, a cohesive narrative, and a lot of times a bit of wisdom. Shit’s crazy man

    Aesop has been around for over 20yrs.
    First albums were produced by blockhead and his latest album he recallabed with blockhead.
    Aesop now probuces his own music including the track you reacted to. He has also created the music for computer games and a movie.
    He's sighned to rymesayers but originally def jux.
    Also part of lice, hail marry Malone and the unconcluded.

    Aesop has dope a track about his cat, but it's really more about his personal journey with therapy.
