Residents of the disputed UK-owned Chagos Islands are struggling to save their heritage as new identity documents issued by Mauritius & Seychelles have their place of birth altered and parents' names omitted. The place of birth for many islanders has been changed to Mauritius. This comes as the Mauritius government stakes claim to the UK-owned territory. Mauritius has long challenged the British ownership of the Chagos Islands. In the 1960s, most of the Chagos islanders were shipped from Diego Garcia, the largest island, to make way for a US military base. Watch our video to know more.

It's one amongst several Mauritius owned territories. The Uk is in violation of the ICJ court verdict. Stop injustices against the poor islanders!!!

The archipelago was gifted by Emperor Napoleon Bonapart as war reparation when in 1815 , slavery (no right to property) in Mauritius was not yet abolished . Unfortunately , no law can be applied retrospectively . No natives inhabited the atolls ; these people were imported as slaves from Africa . Slaves trade ended in 1835 by the British in Mauritius . In 1810 , Mauritius became a British dominion too .
If Diagop Cortia is not returned to the natives, and the locals givin british citizenship - then the people will not hesitate to take for them part of England joing the anti British forces which are active there.
