Very well explained - Thank you very much. Your videos are really of great help for me to manage the change from "just" illustrating with CorelDraw to constructing with Fusion. Keep up the good work!
Super Helpful - Are you a Genius? I think so. You are a good teacher. Thanks for taking the time to publish - I'm working through your series of Fusion videos for my own 3D prints.
Hello. Just wanted to let you know that you are one of the better presenters of all these instruction videos I found on YT. Very well done. And I did learn a lot . Thanks
I started recently with CAD, using Tinkercad and as I encountered complicated challenges, experimenting with fusion360. Your tutorials are very easy to understand, Mr Angus. A big thank you! I'm really making progress and by thus am able to help people more easely when 3D-printing parts.
WOW!!! I thought I know most of the constraint uses. Was I WRONG. Thanks Angus for this great tutorial. I've been using Fusion 360 for over a year and now realize I have a LOT to learn.
It's very helpful when you say the hotkey as you invoke a tool/function. Seriously: tutorialists that neglect to do so are markedly harder to follow. So, THANKS!
Just now learning to make my own models in Fusion 360 and I want to thank you for the tips and tricks. You are making my life less frustrating trying to figure all this stuff out. Please keep them coming as I really like the way you explain everything!! Thank you so much Angus :)
Omg.. i had been ignoring these contraints for the few days i've been using this program. This helps so much! No wonder my stuff was constantly breaking.
You are very helpful. I have been using Sketchup for awhile and still am learning. But just bought a wood CNC and was wanting what else is out there for design besides Easel keep it up and I will continue watching and learning from you. Thanks
Oh man, knowing about this would have saved me a boatload of time and mental math when I was experimenting earlier this morning. It probably would have saved only a couple minutes, but it still would have been soooooo much easier.
This is really awesome. I've never really understood constraints. * & yes, I'd like to see a tangible object, that you have to show us, drawn from scratch :)
I learn so much coming back to these videos after spending some time in Fusion 360. Thanks for doing them! One comment: I'd suggest pointing out that the order in which you select the two sketch objects affects how some of the constraints are applied. For example, if you want to make two diverging lines become parallel then one of those lines will change its orientation when you apply the constraint. But which line will move? It can be frustrating if you don't know what to expect when the constraint is applied.
That was a terrific tutorial, Angus. Thanks a lot! You have an excellent way of explaining things. I didnt understand how to use constraints or dimensions properly until this, now i am highly motivated to go and play with them all! Thanks also for the recommendation on Fix/unfix - i can see that i would have got very messed up using it.
Draw it from scratch please! The simple tips are good, but it's awesome to see your whole process and the different path you take to achieve your end goal! I really like it too because it helps me to visualize a different path to create something. A path I might not have considered that I can apply to a different project :) Love the channel, keep it up and congratulations on 100k!
Thanks for another excellent and useful fusion 360 video. I have been learning slowly but your videos are invaluable to me (and a lot more interesting than some of the official tutorials.
I'd like to think I'm rather experienced in Fusion 360 (picked up incredibly quickly over 3 yrs ago) but I never bothered using these. You may have just changed my mind!
Love your Fusion videos. Any suggestions on where to find information on good workflow practices? Sometimes I have issues with trying to go back and make change in the early stages of the part and messing up the model, I'm sure it has to do with my workflows.
I'd like to see you do a redraw!I've used Solidworks for a while, but I never learned parametric CAD, just learned to build stuff. Also are you going to do a transmission video? Like planetary gears vs. standard manual stuff? I'd like to see a video on how to make gears sometime too! Sorry for all the requests
Would love to see you design a complex constrained sketch (try saying that 3 times as fast as possible !) from start to finish. Kind of an advanced tutorial where you wouldn't stop on basic functions and just explain what you're doing in technical terms to save time
Hello. Might you have an idea of why "Constraints" does not appear in my sketch palette? Option is showing at the top, but there is no constraints pull down menu. Please advise: thanks.
Hey angus, if you do a tutorial on the way you design, could you try to not make a long story short just so you can tell another? (which i hope you make one) take your time to explain your thought process and maybe a few intricacies. This type of designing is something you get used to and just doing a quick brush over might discourage more than actually promote further learning. but as always keep up with the great work, and cant wait till travels are done so i can get back home and try things. as for now i gotta finish eating breakfast and get to rehearsal.
I will take a look thank you ever so much for replying. By the way I have my eye on the tarantula or the anet a6. Do you think the tarantula is a better machine/print quality?
LookUpTV , I've got a Tarantula. Can't exactly speak for the anet, but the tarantula definitely has quite a steep learning curve, and requires quite a lot of modifications to get it printing well. Angus did a review on it a while back, and I almost want to say that I may have gone with another printer had I seen it before getting my printer.
Crikey! I was wondering about this the other day and then this video showed up in my feed. =D Google: "In our latest update, we have installed cookies directly into the brains of our users..."
Hello Angus, I am someone who came from autodesk Inventor and am now migrating over to fusion 360.Now, I've been running into a lot of problems, most having to do with the 3d modeling aspect, and I was hoping you could maybe you could help me. As someone coming from Inventor I'm very used to being able to create an assembly file and bring in one file multiple times rather than copy and pasting or creating the piece again. Now I'm having trouble being able to duplicate a piece and manipulate and constrain it the way I want which is another problem I'm having. I'm having trouble understanding the way the different constraints work in the 3d modeling workspace. I also am having trouble with the difference between components and bodies and how that affects their constraints as it never had much effect in Inventor. So, I'm really hoping you can help me out because I can't find anything else that is helpful.
Hi there How do you remove a constraint? Have created a nice lofted form but somehow got some constraints added to the profiles and I just can't seem to remove them. Steve
That's something I should have covered sorry, you can either click and delete it if it's visible - or right click the line or point and 'remove' the constraint you no longer want.
Hi there S thanks for that been clicking on the wrong thing. However I am using multiple parallel sketches and I think that points on one sketch are somehow attaching to points on another plane. Also getting the red markers. M loving it though surprising how few frame lines are needed to create beautiful curves hulls. Last bit for my printer coming next week so Balrog will soon be under construction. 40cm x 96cm delta 150cm tall smoothieboard. Steve
I understood everything... until that last minute, when my brain exploded. I would like to see videos showing doing real 3D designs from scratch. Thanks!
I just took a look at the Autodesk website and it says Fusion 360 costs $40 a month or $300 a year. Am I looking at the right version? You said it's free.
At the end of the trail you can sign up as a student or business with under 100K turnover to continue using it for free. For any business turning over more than that $40 a month is pocket change imho
Cheers for that Angus. I've now been playing with it for two days and it's incredibly easy to use, once you've got over the initial hump. I need a couple of prototype pieces printed for a project I'm making, and I'm tempted to just buy a Prusa Mk2 and make them myself. Trouble is, I'm up to my neck in building a CNC routing machine and I can't commit the time to learning how to use both. Can you suggest where to get a few pieces printed if I provide the Fusion 360 file? Here on the Sunshine Coast, the minimum order from a commercial printer is $180. I only need about 8 pieces initially. (4 + 2 + 2) If you've got the time and/or inclination, my email is grumpyoldbastard (at) hotmail (dot) com. I believe you're from the 'Gong? I'm originally from Thirroul/Austinmer.
Anonym U. see the site for license details pretty sure it is free for non commercial onshape is what I use, it's similar but in a browser so works on Linux fusion currently only supports Mac or Windows
Anonym U. Yeah for start up or enthusiast use you it is free. Great program, install the free trial then and you should be able to select a startup/enthusiasts option in licensing
Ok..I'm stuck in the first 2 minutes! When I constrain a shape on the vertical axis...it stays constrained...on your video you click and it is no longer constrained. Edit...just found the fix...click on the constraint and click delete....shows how simple steps can trick a beginner! Thank you....
I would love it if you could show us you creating the Geneva gear from scratch because I am having a hard time figuring out what is going on and I think that would make a neat video.
I would dig a "from scratch" tutorial using mostly constraints although it doesn't have to be this complicated (Didn't want to constrain you to just this model)... God that was horrible...
beyondfaces is his handle if i do a search for CAD for Newbies his come up as well he has fusion360 first then, more of yours do come up so may not be a problem for people looking for your vids, no trolling just making sure yours are easy to find
Thanks so much for all your videos!
Cheers!
As a new maker I cannot thank you enough for these videos. You are a great teacher and really appreciate the time and energy that went into this.
Very well explained - Thank you very much. Your videos are really of great help for me to manage the change from "just" illustrating with CorelDraw to constructing with Fusion. Keep up the good work!
great video, perfect tempo, thanks
Hello Martin. Didn’t expect to see you here.

I breath a sigh of relief. You make my learning curve so much easier.
"learning curve", I see what you did there.
I really like these tutorials. Opens up a whole new world of 3d-printing.
Omg.. i had been ignoring these contraints for the few days i've been using this program. This helps so much! No wonder my stuff was constantly breaking.

You teach very well. Please consider making more "how to" videos like this one. Subscribed,
Thanks!
Thank you Angus, This video explained so many simple things that i was unaware of in Fusion. You just made me magnitudes better. Thank you.

Thanks so much for the video series and making it free!
Great vid Aengus. yes would definitely watch more of these. Fusion vids for beginners are not that common. Thanks
Very useful stuff, good job!. I dreaded getting into constraints but it makes more sense now.
Thanks for another excellent and useful fusion 360 video. I have been learning slowly but your videos are invaluable to me (and a lot more interesting than some of the official tutorials.
this helpd a lot, my 3d printer is coming in 2 or 3 days and I started to design 2 weeks ago so much thanks
Angus! this is great. Thanks for making. I'd love a few more tutorial videos on this Fusion 360.
Keep up the great work!

As always, great insights Angus, thanks mate.
I'd love to see how you modelled the Geneva mechanism
Thanks man! Yeah a few people have requested it, so I'll detail the design process in another (probably longer...) video. :)
Make it as long as you like mate, I could listen to your tutorials all day long
Thank you Angus, your walkthrough was helpful for me
Thank you. Great tutorial. Straight to the Geneva tutorial 😃
Yes please! A tutorial on making a Geneva sketch would be amazing!! Or something similar.
Very good tutorial. Looking forward to the next part of the series.
One question: why not using the trim tool for big sketches to clear up a bit?
Love these Angus! So informative!
I had know idea about how to use parametric modeling before these cad for newbies tutorials.
Elias Johnson aren't you special
Oh wait, did he use the wrong no?
xdaolegit I interpreted it as "I already knew" so I took it as an attempt to brag
I'd like to see you do a redraw!I've used Solidworks for a while, but I never learned parametric CAD, just learned to build stuff. Also are you going to do a transmission video? Thanks, Angus. This is a very helpful video.
Yea Angus , draw it from scratch :)
Indeed! I would also like to see that.
I really wanted to know how to make my own stuff. Thanks Angus!
Yes please make a video of you make it the wheel from scratch that would be really cool to see
It would be cool to see a video on how you used constraints for the geneva mech
Cheers! Will definitely follow up on how I put that sketch together.
Very well explained.
is it possible that the wheel is name a < cam >
and thank for the good vid
it help me a lot
I swear one of these days im going to fly down there and super glue your scroll wheel :-)
Nice vid thou
Cheers
+bigfilsing haha subconscious from years of CAD
Can you constrain something to be half the lenght of something else? Or would one go about that differently?
Hello. Might you have an idea of why "Constraints" does not appear in my sketch palette? Option is showing at the top, but there is no constraints pull down menu. Please advise: thanks.
Nice video man..
Could you make one on gears (for 3d printing)? Great tutorial mate! Thanks! :)
Great video, thank you for sharing. How do you feel about construction geometry? Should it be used as little as possible?
+Joseph Greiner I love construction lines and use them a lot, no reason not to!
Fantastic Tutorial

Can you do one showing how to model people figures? That's something I never see a tutorial on. Great video yet again. 😊
Not really my area of expertise ! Check out Chaos Core Tech and Sparkyface5 here on UA-cam for that kind of 3D Modelling :)
I will take a look thank you ever so much for replying. By the way I have my eye on the tarantula or the anet a6. Do you think the tarantula is a better machine/print quality?

Hi Angus (just catching up on my MM tutorials in between building a HyperCube)
How's the progress on the "Geneva Mechanism from Scratch"....
Working on the main video for it, and it'll follow right after :)
Outstanding - keep up the excellent vid work, but make sure you get out into the lovely sunshine, too! ;)
Please make a review of the Snapmaker
Crikey! I was wondering about this the other day and then this video showed up in my feed. =D

Works well for inventor too
Lets see you build the model!

try doing the geneva with no sketches it can be done

parallel = equilateral?
not really, parallel means they'll never converge or diverge and remain equidistant. Equilateral means all same length.
I would love it if you could show us you creating the Geneva gear from scratch because I am having a hard time figuring out what is going on and I think that would make a neat video.
Ever run into the situation where you've drawn half of a symmetrical object, mirrored those lines, but then it doesn't come out as a closed sketch?
can you remove a constraint
Sure can, just right click the line or point it is constraining and delete from the menu, or you can direct select it if visible and delete.
"when you're doing nice curvey objects, tangential is the way to go"
Sounds to me like you need to discover curvature :P
yes please draw it from scratch.. it will help with your thought process when designing objects..
Woah
So new words for suicide bombers are Tangent and Smooth Splines?
Home Run Angus!
great video but you forgot colinear constraints
At 8:41
@@cooltoff Lol I don't even remember writing this comment. but yeah I must not paid attention or something idk
😂

Darren Pelchen me too!!!!!
Way too expensive. I can buy 2 new printers a year with subscription for this software!
splines are amazing you just don't know how to use them effectively ;)

If you use the lock constraint...on a dimension does that mean it cannot be changed or its just defined until you change the dimension again ?
