    As an Irish whovian and knowing that Doctor Who has historically never actually filmed in Ireland (the Ireland scenes in Ascension Of The Cybermen were probably filmed in British countryside), it’d be nice if the show actually did do that some day. 💙
    Some of the most popular films and TV shows in the world have actually filmed there in recent years like Penny Dreadful, Game Of Thrones, Star Wars, Braveheart, Banshees and Vikings. And it has actually benefited the Irish Tourism Industry (a driving factor for the Irish economy). 🇮🇪💰
    There’s lots of locations they could use in Ireland to pass off as an alien world. Imagine it: You could have the production crew place the TARDIS on the Cliffs Of Moher in County Clare (South West of Ireland) and insert a CGI alien bird in the background and twin suns on the horizon and pass it off as an alien planet. 😉

      It’s shocking Doctor Who has never filmed in Ireland or Northern Ireland since it started back in 1963, the fact we had to wait to the Jodie Whittaker era to have even a story set in Ireland is mind blowing, you’d think they get to Ireland a lot sooner since some people mistake gallifrey for Galway as a place in Ireland in the classic series with the hand of fear and then again in the invisible enemy which is referenced one more time in the new series with human nature/family of blood.

    Greece not being visited is shocking. But come to think of it there are a lot of interesting time periods not visited. Ancient Greece, Joseon Korea, 1880's Japan, the Inca empire, the ottoman empire, the Persian empire, the Mongolian empire (In Mongolia), WW1 Arabia, 1930's morocco, 1200BC Minoa and Neo-Babylonia 626BC could all be really cool settings with the brand new disney budget.

      Yeah, like Ancient Greece is like one of the ten first places I'd expect to visit in a show about time travel. Aside from British History, Ancient Rome and Ancient Greece are probably the two most talked about historical periods in a British History class.

    It's crazy that a show that has lasted for so long and can go anywhere and anytime has barely explored human history and culture outside of the UK and the US. As a foreign fan I find it kinda disapointing to be honest.

    • @Jordan3DS
      @Jordan3DS 10 місяців тому +18

      Yeah, it would be awesome to see more history from around the world be shown off. I think the major issue nowadays is budget, shows that are set in certain countries are expected to be filmed there and transporting the cast, crew, and equipment there and back would be insanely expensive!

    • @pizaca9507
      @pizaca9507 10 місяців тому +18

      @@Jordan3DS I figured that's the reason too, the Hartnell era had the most varied historical episodes and they didn't need a huge budget, but I'd imagine things have changed a lot since then. Still, even today the actors and crew rarely go to the supposed place the TARDIS lands in, they usually film in similar looking places, and unless they want to make a story that explores a certain country very deeply (which to be fair, would be neat,) I think they can get away with that. The most recent example I can think of is Demons of the Punjab, it was filmed in Spain but set in the border between India and Pakistan. Although I can see this being a problem if they want to make a present day story on another country.

      The thing is Doctor who as a show once did this serial called the Talons of Weng Shi. They attempted Chinese culture - in London however - and it's very certainly dated to put it lightly. Yellowface, Eastern Peril and Tom Baker speaking gibberish in lieu of Mandarin.
      Although episodes like that are easily avoidable by just thinking for 5 minutes, I do believe that doctor who as a show is against painting other culture's in a negative light - so I think most writers are a bit daunted by writing about another culture.
      The solution would be to get foreign writers in ultimately, but as DW is sci-fi it does massively limit who can write episodes - not every writer can write sci-fi. Case in point Malorie Blackman.
      It's just avoiding making an offensive episode. To make them good a writer would have to dedicate the year to researching and the writers need to also be doing other scripts too for other shows.

    • @pizaca9507
      @pizaca9507 10 місяців тому +12

      @@TheJonesdude I can understand the fear of representing a culture incorrecty, specially in this day and age where that culture can give you their opinion about it more directly than ever, but honestly, and I guess this is more of a personal thing, the show should lose the fear of doing "pure historicals" as fans call them. For example in the Jodie Whitaker era I found the historicals to be some of the best historicals the show has had since the revival and almost everyone agrees that episodes like Rosa would've been better off without the sci fi nonsense, so if anything walking away from the pure sci fi format every once in a while and getting writters from different backgrounds would allow for more varied stories.

    None of the Antarctic claims are recognised as actually parts of the country. If you visited the New Zealand claim then you didn’t visit New Zealand. Countries have sent pregnant women to Antarctica to have babies born there so they could say it’s a full part of their country but it didn’t work.
