Thanks for the introduction. I have several V71A rigs that I really like. One of the things I really like about Kenwood HT and mobile rigs is how easy they are to program from the front panel.
I just started playing with packet and APRS, so a 710G is in my future.

Is a shorter head cable available for the TM-D710GA? I only need a 3’ cord to connect the head to the radio but I’m having problems sourcing one. I think it’s insulated. We installed this in my Toyota Tacoma last week. I love this 710GA so much I ordered another one as a dedicated VHF/UHF base station. Your videos are great. I’ve watched them all several times to help set my equipment up right & fast. Thank you! 🇺🇸

I sure hope you are still getting comment notifications on this video. I need your help. I just got my Kenwood TM-D710D and want to know how to switch the display so I have VHF on one side and UHF on the other. I had it and now I don't. I have a list of frequencies I want in my radio. Do I need to enter the order on VHF & UHF in a special order on memory position ie all UHF on memory channels 100 and greater. The manual is good but not great. Can someone help me out. Thank you.

I noticed that the TM-D710G can scan tones by holding down the tone select key. I haven’t experimented with this feature. Will it locate the required PL tone automatically for a given frequency to open a repeater?

Thank you for the informative videos. I see that you have a few videos on the Kenwood TM-D710G and on the Yaesu FTM 400XD. I am currently trying to decide between those two radios and wonder if you have any preference.
    Thanks again, Eric KN6HMK

Both are great radios and I use both almost daily. For me it comes down to where it is being used and the features you want. Where for a mounted mobile APRS radio in my vehicle I prefer the Yaesu FTM-400XD due to it having a full QWERTY keyboard integrated into the touch screen. It makes it a lot easier to use all the APRS features and tools.
When it comes to a base dual band radio or a portable base set up I prefer the Kenwood TM-D710 because of the full internal TNC and the ability to do UHF/VHF packet radio as well as configure it as a Digipeater.

@@ka6ete217 Thank you for the quick feedback! I think i will be happy either way, I was originally leaning towards the Yaesu because of the color touch screen but, after looking into it more I get the feeling the Kenwood is a more capable radio and that Kenwood has a better reputation for quality.

doesnt this have auto repeater shift?

    • @ka6ete217

Yes it does have the capability, but it does not always work correctly. On occasion it may enter the wrong direction of shift, as well as enter a shift when trying to use a simplex frequency. I have found it easier to simply disable the automatic repeater shift and enter the shift manually when needed.
