In today's video I review my newest addition to the garage, the Porsche 981 Cayman GT4. Honestly, two weeks ago this wasn't in my cards. I just caught the virus and was bored scrolling up and down Autotrader. Upon finding this car at The Collection, I had made an offer and bought it within a few short days.
The reason for buying the car is that I plan on daily driving it instead of the GT3. Also, I plan on doing some tasty mods to the car that should make it better than the upcoming GT4RS. Nonetheless, I'm SUPER excited to share this project with you.

Love your enthusiasm. I have had my 981 for 6 years and it just gets better and better. I use it as often as I can. When I got busted again for speeding recently the police officer said: "You are a very lucky man!" I thought he was going to let me off. No, I got a ticket, but he continued: "You are a very lucky man to have a car like this."
Love this story hahaha. You are extremely lucky to have one as they are incredible cars. IMO the best cars.
I’ve got a similar story for you. I got pulled over at the very end of a school zone in my Touring. Cop goes do you know how fast you were going. I go, I know it wasn’t any faster than 45. He says, try again. I say, no way it was faster than 47 and I chuckle nervously knowing that it was at the top of second gear. He goes, relax I’m not going to give you a ticket but when I last saw the gun it was at 58 mph😅
I was like wait, so you said you aren’t going too give me a ticket?
he goes I’ve never pulled over a car like this because the people that own them don’t enjoy them.

I am in the queue for a GT4RS here in Australia, where the dealers don't add markups, but the government does with huge taxes, which makes our cars super expensive. Must say the GT4 provides the fun 95% of the time compared to the GT3 RS I had before - just keen to have the remarkable GT3 engine and the new air intakes inside the car, despite the loss of manual transmission. Happy 2022! Great place Florida, and you seem to have a Governor who knows how to run a State.
@@easyrider7021 Happy 2022 my friend. It’s amazing to hear that you’ll be getting the best of both worlds with the 4RS. Like you, I’m in love with the GT4 and gives me most of what the Touring Does at 40% the cost. Imagine if the 4RS had a manual option 🤯 Florida is a great place. Probably one of a few great places to live in this country. Hopefully our governor runs for president! Thank you so much for your comments here on the channel 🙏🏻
You nailed it. The 981 GT4 LOVES to be driven hard. It loves the top of the rev range and almost feels like a sin just cruising on the highway lol

No disrespect, but please live the silver wheels silver. Black wheels will be just big black holes , instead of beautiful design silver wheels. Also you already have silver wing risers and silver trim inside. On my Spyder I have silver wheels and silver interior trim and getting so much compliments. I prefer 3 color combination vs 2 color.
Can not wait til you do DeMan conversion, I am thinking about it for my Spyder at some point .
I was thinking about this as well. Perhaps tinted windows would provide enough of the look that I want. Also, I have the two tone theme in the GT3. I'm definitely considering what you are saying and appreciate your feedback. Time will tell what I do haha.

Build on the Silver, change rear logo to Silver, etc

While the brushed aluminum is gorgeous it doesn't work with deviated stitching. Fortunately they have CF kits that can cover the fixed trim on the door cards. And the aluminum trim, on the dash, can be removed. If you search I've seen kits that match the Porsche CF as it's a little different than most patterns. Good luck & enjoy that beautiful car.

Don’t disparage the iron rotor brakes. That ability to modulate brake grab is very valuable in high speed driving, like on a track. PCCB has advantages, of course, but that ability to modulate brake grab allows you to more precisely balance the car in dynamic driving.
Agreed. On the track I have no doubt that they are awesome. On the road though, I really do like the PCCB much more. I don't hate the steels. I just don't love them haha. Would love to try both on track and give you some better feedback there. Hopefully that will happen soon :)
Man, your video is great and you have the enthusiasm to present, Porsche should hire you. But on a serious note, I have a 2014 Cayman base. Some of the points you bring about on the GT4 are in the base. Thinking about sending it to Deman for engine upgrade 🏎

What would you buy if you had one car- Evora GT or the 981 catman gt4 ? Thanks and they almost cost the same. Appreciate. I love dailyig my cars so suspension and streering feel are important.
Currently same like you own a GT3 touring, but wanna add either a lotus evora gt or 981 cayman gt4 not 718.
I will sell the touring soon since its almost twice the price and I know none of them come close to it.

Hello my brother. Thank you so much for the comment. I would go GT4. It is more daily able. The Evora GT is a better second car because it is a more exciting experience.
Apart from that, the GT3 is better than both and you will miss it. Recommendation, if the money changes your life in any way, do sell it. Otherwise keep both the GT3 and daily the GT4 😁

Amazing choice. If I were you, I'd test drive the car before making the purchase. If you find a CPO car, please make sure you check it out first as Porsche will fix any issues with it.

Agreed. I daily drive it though haha. Didn’t want the uncomfy carbons so 18 way is what I chose. Either way couldn’t agree more about the best spec GT4

Great question. 7-9 weeks from the time they receive the car. He said he can take it whenever I send it up.
Btw the one question I have is that to me this car and your Gt3 are too much alike , so the only benefit I see to it is that you won’t put the miles on GT3 so it doesn’t loose money before you trade it in for the 765 ?

Yes you did. 4.5, shortened gearing, headers, x-pipe, limited slip diff, clutch/flywheel, tune

@@williamjackson5357 honestly I’m don’t think that makes sense. The GT4 is nearly perfect in every way and very well balanced. If you want something more powerful then but something more powerful like an R8. GT4.5 is a bit of a Frankenstein IMO. It’s just an opinion. To each his own.
How does shifting in the 992 GT3 compare to this? Gearing ratio similar (living between 1-2 also?)
992 and 991.2 GT3 both have long gearing but not quite as long as GT4. It’s honestly a very similar experience but you can shift to third and enjoy it because there is torque in the GT3. The GT4 doesn’t have anything until up top which is why the long gearing is more apparent.
GT4 is more underpowered and has longer gearing. GT3 has 100+ more horsepower, much more torque. and slightly less long gearing which means you see third on the road.
@@MiamiMiles thank you for your insight. I totally didn’t think about the differences in power; that totally makes sense. Was lucky to have a yellow GT4 for a couple of years: such an amazing car. Was contemplating between manual or PDK for 992

I would get a 981 Cayman S or a 2014 Carrera S. Either one with a Manual would be an excellent drivers car

Nothing wrong with that… I just like the rawness of the 981. I have my GT3 for refinement and engine. If no GT3, then the 718 would be my pick.
