Participle clauses - English grammar lesson

  • Participle clauses enable us to say things in a more economical way - with fewer words.
    We mainly use participle clauses in written English, particularly in an academic or journalistic style.
    There are 3 types of participle clauses:
    Present participle clauses
    Past participle clauses (mainly used in passive voice)
    Perfect participle clauses ("having" + past participle. Can be used in active voice or passive voice)
    In this video, I explain each type in detail with examples.

      What is the difference between Subject + got+ pp and S + be+ pp?
      when can be used S + got +pp example
      e.g They got promoted to higher positions in the company due to their outstanding performance.". another example
      e.g They got invaded in the Opium Wars."
      The peaceful village got invaded by marauders last night."
      "Our computer systems got invaded by a sophisticated malware attack."

    Hi man, the past participle verb is the verb V2 or V3? Because you said that ed, but there it irregular verbs. Because I don't know if V2: past simple or V3: past participle.

    please make a detailed lesson on gerund with examples as a non native learner I find it very confusing.oftenly i could not understand where should I use gerund and where to put continuous verbs. regards 😒😪

      A slightly better example is:
      "Having been requested by viewers, Crown Academy prepared a lesson........"

    Identified as a complex part of grammar, participle clause is simplified

    I think u gave a wrong information on the subject of "used". "This cream" should be the subject not the object for the past participle clause. Am I wrong?

    The perfect participle clause ONLY can start with “having”? What about other verb, like “being”?

      Yes, the perfect participle = "having" + past participle.
      "being" is the present participle of the verb "be"

      That will come with experience. Remember that these structures are mainly used in written English therefore you will have plenty of time to read them.
