  • The out of control cycle goes in this order
    1. What are land rover doing to prevent their cars being stolen, entirely?
    2. What are you doing to protect your asset/Land Rover?
    3. What is the insurance market doing?
    4. What is going on with the Land Rover new and used car market?

Interesting perspective. Here's another angle. I do live in the sticks, I'm probably a "vanilla " risk. Yes I got a quote from Land rover ins for my old..2009 Sport. At @ a grand a year and yes I'm on monthly subscription payments. The price is comparable with Aviva.
So, until or if it all goes pear shaped I'm happy customer. That would be so different if I owned a 2018 model and I was sitting on 10k + a year deprecation as most are. That's a nightmare!!.

You are correct, they don’t. They blame the insurance companies for not wanting to insure their cars however even their own scheme they have setup won’t insure many of their own cars/owners. Ludicrous

Presumably it’s monthly subscription so they have the option to terminate policies on a month by month basis before 12 months elapses, without contractual implications, if thefts are excessive. Not great peace of mind for the policy holder. Presumably also the pot LV has available includes all their other car insurance policies, other than JLR, hence why everyones LV premiums will be going up 🤔

Great video, I do have a question though.. I agree JLR security is sub par at best. But if I install a well known, highly effective, (supported by real data) immobiliser on my vehicle why does no insurance company recognise that that alone will basically mean the vehicle is highly unlikely to be stolen. No discounts for doing so and my premium would still stay the same. Far far better and more effective than any steering lock (steering lock bypassed in 45 ish seconds), love your thoughts on this..

Good question, strangely many immobilisers aren’t thatcham approved but even if they are they are the required security to accept the risk not required to qualify to get a discount. Due to the high risk minimum requirements apply, insurers still need to collect appropriate premiums for the risk in hand. Immobilisers don’t stop cars being lifted by a truck, that’s how my 1990s Land Rover defender was stolen

Many thanks for your response. The immobiliser in question does not have a banding category within the Thatcham mode of certification. I find it bizarre that insurance companies prefer any type of tracker over a market leading immobiliser. We all know that trackers do not stop theft. A car stolen with a tracker will 99.9% of the time be found stripped / in a lock up / within some kind of locked compound / shipping container and therefore the insurance company will be paying out. With an immobiliser the car isn't going anywhere, end of, even with the key. Any car could be stolen with a truck and lifted off the street so therefore that comment applies to any car ir any van for that matter. As a result, people are being encouraged to not bother taking extra security precautions as there is no benefit / no point. They'll just claim, get a new car and move on. Likewise insurance companies are part of the problem as they aren't encouraging people to as you would say 'reduce the risk '. Their using theft statistics at least in part justification to increase premiums. If I have installed a market leading immobiliser I should be rewarded for doing so as the risk is far less than someone who dies nothing. Example, do you think an
certain type of small 4x4 could be owned successfully without a market leading immobiliser? No chance it'd stolen asap

@@JamesTargett-um4dm you do get rewarded for installing an aftermarket immobiliser, you get the luxury of an insurance quote that others who don’t do not. Benefits aren’t always financial

Clearly you aren't a JLR customer nor have any idea what the latest MY18+ security update does as what you state is false. The main issue was the ease of being able to add a third key to take the cars via the OBD port. Relay thief's are not isolated to JLR products only and isn't the primary cause of JLRs cars being stolen. Yes JLR are guilty of a parts supply issue that in turn has caused the criminals to target there cars to meet overseas demand but that via there new warehouse is steadily being resolved.

I’m an ex JLR customer and that’s for a very good reason, now a Porsche customer who have no issues, parts or relay thefts. I’m well aware of the UWB technology which hasn’t solved anything, cars being stolen all around the place, watch my other video where a guy I’m talking to his sisters brand new car was stolen the night before. JLR is deep trouble UWB update or not. Insurers still require after market immobilisers and trackers and even JLR’s own insurance declines more customers than it takes on, what a joke!
