I added OAE to my colonies based off Randys website and used the same 1:1 OA and glycerine with the swedish cellulose sponges off Amazon that he mentioned. So far, as of yesterday, all colonies maintained zero, one or two mites. Which only one colony went up. I have 11 colonies. One nuc had 3 mites but that has been untreated so far this year. I am only one month into it or 30 days out of a 70 day Extended application. Based off Randy's report, its natural for the mites to increase as the mid way or so point comes because the current theory is the OAE keeps the mites from going into the cells to reproduce so naturally the phoretic count will be higher, but will lower when they don't reproduce as much. Time will tell.

I have been doing random testing as I am requeening. Most have very low or zero counts. Some that I used shop towels on are higher. The sweetest sponges disintegrate with time. I found a better system in water absorbent pads. I showed them on my big batch video. I have had a few colonies with high counts that have the shop towels. The towels were supposed to only stay a short time you know how that goes. Randy also found the towels did not do much

That sponge looks like a right one. I tried many.. some of them don't do nothing after 5 days. If they propolise it, or just stop working on it than it's not good.
The size looks ok.. It's better to use small like that and change 2-3 over the long treatment than to use one big that gets old...

I made some on capillary matting. It's thicker than the Multi fibre cellulose dish cloth. The Multi is 2mm thick whereas the capillary mat is 3mm -1/8" the capillary matt don't half hold some stuff. That's what I used in the new colony 5 frame installed last Sat in a 10 frame Langstroth -deep. I was amazed by the 300 drop and was further amazed that it out paced the fumigation. I would have sworn the fumigation should have been more searching but no that strip did it and there was no where near as many grams on it as seen in Randy's latest report (for me) Part 1 = 2022 March.

Todays drop =64. It was a bit worrying but I should not have worried because you know as well as others that the count (kill) can be erratic. 1 drop = 300 a while back then down to 2 counts of 160/170/130 no 64 which is as some would have predicted!!!!
For the future you will be able to predict what will be the pattern and outcome through your experience of this great method.
I see a new vaporiser is being used but although I thought vaporization would have been more 'searching' that the strip method I don't think it is more efficient or even equal to the strips on the proviso the strips are loaded with enough 1 to 1 and there is enough of those strips in the hive to cause the devastation to the mites that the strips do.......
