    Now we come to think about it, running our solo episode on a day notorious for hangovers might not have been the best idea. However if you think you can stomach it, we've got one hell of a show for you. Sit back, try to relax and check out the incredible footage from our top 3 solo climbs of 2014. First up we have climber Lucky Chance, better known as The Stunt Monkey who soloed the route 'Wonderland' in Australia's Blue Mountains while dressed in full monkey get-up. Not the most serious solo climb we've ever seen, but definitely one of the most entertaining. Thanks to Brad Schimanski for the use of his footage. If you'd like to see more from Brad, check out his UA-cam channel here: / mansnowboarder In second place is frequent climbing daily star Tom Randall who we featured earlier in the year soloing a gritstone classic and one of his favourite routes, 'London Wall' (E5 6a) at Millstone Edge. Unsurprisingly, first place this year goes to the uncontested modern master of free solo, Alex Honnold. Alex made the news early on this year for his free solo ascent of the fifteen pitch 'El Sendero Luminoso' (7c/5.12d). Alex was far from done however and in October he once again amazed the climbing world when web design company Squarespace released a video of him soloing 'Heaven' (7c/5.12d) at Glacier Point in Yosemite. Squarespace not only released their original advert but also a climber's cut of the footage. To watch the original video you can go here:

      No. He's not the best; only you were fooled by the documentary. Hollywood manipulated your thinking! There are other brilliant climbers!

      Probably the best soloist, but not strong enough to be considered a top climber.

    What a privilege it is to be part of the global climbing family at a time when the likes of Honnold and Randall are walking the earth doing things that are beyond imagination.

    Wow, just wow. I started climbing about 2 almost 3 months ago. And i'm catching on quickly. I like to free solo stuff i know is within my range such as a few routes at Stoney Point, but i still love the rush you get when knowing you're about 1/2 way up and theirs no going back down, just up to the top. But damn, 5.12d free solo'd?!?! Jeez man i can't even lead a 5.12d yet Alex killing it solo is just nuts. Courage and strength are what that dude has! Mad props to the other 2 in the video as well they had rad climbs.

      You've been climbing for three months (now about 5 I guess) and you're free soloing??? I don't think you really like your life dude. I've been climbing for pretty much the same time and I couldn't trust myself free solo the easiest route, but your choice.

      +Helmi Jonasson I apologize for not being an REI 5.9 strictly climber. When i climb i go to crush and push my self. Even if that's soloing it's still all apart of the game!

    The point is Alex doesn't need to be the best climber in the world technically. It all comes down to him having the biggest balls to do all these insane free solos.

    • @quimicounifesp2597
      @quimicounifesp2597 3 роки тому

      Exactly. But Hollywood managed to manipulate the opinion of many. Other ladders made exceptional climbs.
      It seems there is only Alex Honnold; became a boring thing. There was even a climber who wrote about it, citing at least 20 climbers even before Alex made the documentary. Among them Hansjörg Auer who climbed 850 meters (7b+) in 2 hours and 50 minutes. Detail: he descended by rappelling and the next day he went up without knowing what he was going to find in front of him. Very different from Alex who spent years training with equipment before going up without them and shooting the documentary.

    I love Alex and this is no disrespect but, Dean Potter was the first person to free solo Heaven in 2006. If your going to put a free solo at #1 on this list, at least make it something that hasn't been done already.

    2. Lead 5.12b........Give credit where it's due that is a really nice lead and I wouldn't lead that BUT that is in NO WAY a 5.12 route. Maybe .11b. Way to relaxed and the holds look pretty fair for 5.12 by video's look only. Again Great lead but not impressive as routes go sorry!
