A Cop Doesn’t Realize Woman is Hiding a Deadly Secret

- Leigha Michelle Day was tearing through the quiet streets of Jensen Beach, narrowly avoiding disaster with every turn. When her car finally slammed into an oak tree, flipping violently, she crawled from the wreckage and vanished into the night. But that was just the beginning-by the time officers caught up with her, this frantic escape took a dark turn, and one of them would soon find themselves facing the blade of her knife.

If you’re afraid of getting in trouble for no car insurance, what in the world made this chick think stabbing a cop was the better alternative?
She likely doesn't know how to think ahead of the current moment. For whatever reason just never learned the skill.
Might be a clue that she wasn't in her right mind! AKA- not pre-meditated!
The key word here is “think”.
She just came up with any kind of excuse because the whole reason all that happened is because she's psycho. That's plain and simple she's just a psycho

And can you believe as bad as that crash was she survived just in order to try and kill someone! Unbelievable!

higher ground advantage? So you'd rather have her behind you so you can't see her at all?
The cop never listened to Obi-Wan.
He was mesmerized by her boobs.
Thing is this was an accident response and and was scene as a victim, there is no one that would have saw this irrational incident happening. She turned a car accident and DUI into attempted murder because she panicked with no major priors is insane.
He’d seen her hands earlier, thought she had a wallet in her hand, so I can see why he didn’t think she had a weapon.
Could have took the DUI and faced up to 6 months in jail, now your in prison for life. What a dumb gamble 😅
Exactly. And I don't get why they didn't get why she did it....If it was a man the first and only thing they'd think why he tried to kill the cop was to get away from going to jail. It's just so simple and plain to me. And she would def not get 6 months in jail. With a single car crash DUI and it being her first I'd bet my left nut she'd only gotten 12 months probation after being bailed out after the DUI arrest. It's usually just a fine, forced alcohol counseling, loss of license for 6 months and maybe forced SR22 insurance. I have a female friend who on her 4th DUI didn't get a jail sentence and just got one of those breathalyzers put in her car and she could drive to work or to go shopping but no pleasure driving and some type of jail diversion probation where she got random tested for drugs and booze. IIRC she never got jail other than the night of arrest. But again it's a female. On average they get much less time for the same crimes so a dude would have gotten prison for his 4th I bet. That crying, man. That shit works.

A DUI in and of itself is most often zero jail time aside from when they put you in the "drunk tank" (a holding cell) to sober up.

Yeah but she hardly had any clothes on. So I understand the policeman didn't think she had a sharp object on her after that car crash. Like wth did she manage to grab that thing out of the wreckage?
The way that cop screamed and how it all unfolded was something straight out of a horror thriller. Like damn. Scary
So she ran away from what was most likely a misdemeanor car crash straight into a felony attempted murder on a cop? Wow.😏🤔😏
Puzzling indeed. I remember that getting into trouble when I was that young came with alot of worries that I wouldn't give a f¥€k about today. I too would have been terrified after crashing. My brain can't get past just how bad a solution she chose. The likelihood of getting away with the crash was already minimal - IF the car is registered to her or anyone with connection to her.

Many people don’t get a life sentence for murder. She gets it for attempted murder.
She destroyed the rest of her life. Crazy.
In Chicago or California, they would give her a Government job.
Yeah I'm completely shocked she landed on a life sentence, her lawyer had to be working against her or something. Like you said a lot of murderers don't even get sentenced to life and instead get 40 years or something, but she got life for attempted and somehow landed it being ruled premeditated too.
“Life in prison” means little without the parole eligibility attached. For example “life in prison with a 14 year parole eligibility” means a person can be out after serving 1/3, 1/2 of their sentence depending on area.
Here is the thing guys, the officer believes her to be the driver of the accident. How the hell did she fully destroy this car, yet had the wherewithall to retireieve a knife she had in her car, as I don't think she was carrying it on her person. The cop sees a female, almost naked with no shoes and he isn't going to presume she has a weapon on her, he was using his emapthy. She either is suffering psychosis or is on meth and alcohol. Meth causes this all the time!!!
This is last time he will ever not command hands up, of this I am certain. A lesson was learned here for many.

@@Bela66699the guy also, they gave her the answers to their questions
Seriously? I'm not a police officer, and even I knew the young woman was hiding something in her hands. 3 Red flags. 1. She tried walking away. 2. She initially hid her hands behind her back and stated that she was scared. 3. When told to walk in front of the officer, she suspiciously transitioned her hands quickly to her side, then in front of her when walking up the stairs. Right then and there I would got some distance and told her to put her hands in the air.
to be 'fair' at that point, she was viewed as somebody who just walked away from a nasty car crash, maybe he wasnt expecting any violence from her because she looked visably shaken, not really wearing that much and just went through something tramatic. i can see him mentally letting his guard down for that. he messed up for sure, but its not like they were looking for a murder suspect.
Also she wasn’t wearing much and not one witness said she was carrying a knife or retrieved a knife from her car. He just thought she was injured and high on drugs. Plus when someone says they are scared and you aren’t sure what they are running from you don’t want to intimidate them more or scare them even more.

When people whine about cops being jumpy, this is why they have to be wary of everybody- complacency kills.
He was responding to a car accident, not a crime. She seemed shaken, which would be pretty normal after a serious crash. She not appear to be aggressive, she was scantily clad so you know she wasn’t hiding weapons in pockets, her pose at first with her hands behind her back would not be unusual for somebody who is injured, and he was actually able to see both of her hands at one point - but just briefly, and in the dark, the knife would’ve been very difficult to.
As you’re watching this video, you _know_ that something bad happens so you’re looking for it. The officer doesn’t have that advantage.
The footage makes for an excellent training video specifically _because_ it is an incident in which many officers would be caught unexpected.

I-drive is a really scenic road too, theres some really wild looking houses if you're heading towards Ft. Pierce... growing up in one of the neighborhoods behind i-drive i always thought how easily someone could potentially end up in the water bc theres no shoulder on the causeway side of the road. And maybe its relatively "peaceful" but whenever PSL or the county ends up in the news its almost ALWAYS for some wild unbelievable shit like this 😂😅
I just start watching this. And I'm left in 30 seconds into this. There is nothing wrong with this girl. Besides, she is a spoiled little brat. She is not mentally incompetent. She's just looking for a defense.
Don't cops ask to see hands immediately??
she was pretty lightly dressed, he prob expected she didn’t have anything on her
Apparently not all of them.
He was looking at that cake
@@jordanalbano9780that makes no sense, how’s she dressed has nothing to do with whether or not she had something in her hands behind her back

That reenactment of what happened was a really good addition, loved it❤ Thanks for another great video!
Bad interrogation. How about, why did you have a butterfly knife? Not a normal thing for a young woman to have in her hands after an accident.
Officer had same line of thinking as you and nearly lost his life for it. You need to assume they have a weapon in any situation when hands hidden . he'll its Florida wouldn't be surprised if she had RPG after a car accident let alone knife
@@derbyct864 I think you misunderstood Leasha's comment. I had the same question she did - why did they not ask why she was carrying a blade? She sounded genuinely horrified she'd stabbed someone, yet she was carrying a knife. The comment is not about why the officer didn't check her for weapons, it's about the interrogation after. Mind you, we only saw a few minutes of the questioning, I guess they could have asked why she was carrying. But I'd like to have seen her try to answer that question, for sure!
I have several knives on me, around me in my vehicle... Due to those who lurk at night while I come and go from work. I could see myself having a blade in my pocket or in my sock, but never in my hand unless I am actively afraid for my life.
@@jonnylumberjack6223No. Derby said what they said. The original comment was misogynistic assuming “a lady” shouldn’t carry weapons. The cop had the same assumption and let his guard down and got stabbed. What does being a lady have to do with it? So it’s normal for a man to crash his car then grab a weapon? None of this is normal, it has nothing to do with her gender.
@@Prettykittychimi But she is a young woman. Pointing that out is not misogyny. I mean, I take your point that it's not normal for anyone to carry a knife. But in this case, it's a young woman. Btw, I'm a middle aged woman who is a flag waving feminist. I just don't read the original comment the same way you do. I also agree that the cop underestimated her, because she's a young, white female. That's the effect of the good old patriarchy, big man with gun has nothing to fear from a wee skinny chick. People need to catch up with reality eh.
That sheriff officer´s haircut looks like Kim Jong Un´s.
😂😂😂 Exactly!
😂😂😂 got that brush on his head
She was afraid of going to jail for a few days, so she makes sure she does something that will put her away for life. Insane.
The ending floored me.. she got life!?!?!?! 🤯 Her attorney must've been worthless.
I know, so many people get less than 10 years for actual murder.
It was a cop.....
Attempting to kill someone doesn’t qualify for a life sentence? Couldn’t disagree more.
Rightfully so, she attacked the state/people.
She broke the white code
Some get 15 to 30 years for premeditated murder, life for attempted murder. I will never understand the justice system
They said it was premeditated.
I 100% agree that the justice system is screwed up. However, it’s also EXTREMELY over capacity, prosecutors make plea deals with murderers to avoid trials. They figure a guaranteed 15-30 years is better than going through a many months or years long trial that may end in the accused being declared not guilty.
This should be a training video. I'm 72 years old, yelling at the tv " she has something behind her back "
what a psycho she was high on something to crash that hard. Her tears are so fake.. Pity the officer who was stabbed did not take more care when approaching her.
She should have received maybe 10 years for slashing a police officer. Serious crime, but life in prison? Absurd sentence---the woman was clearly disoriented after a major car crash.
@@richardernsberger5692 Because it was a cop, they always think they're more important.
@@richardernsberger5692she deserves life without parole. Her intention was to kill the officer. She wasn’t disoriented from the crash. Alcohol and drugs. She made a choice and now must serve the consequences. The officer is not at fault for what she did!!

She was going to get someone killed sooner or later they was she was acting even before the crash. " was tearing through the quiet streets of Jensen Beach, narrowly avoiding disaster with every turn"
So many unanswered questions in this case. Was she drunk? On drugs? Did she just have a fight with a boyfriend/girlfriend? Fight with a family member (parents/sibling)? Problem(s) at work (fired)? This story just feels so incomplete.
Drivers near her said she was speeding and driving erratically....probably high.
Sounds like she's crying over a DUI.
Who cares honestly. She put so many people in danger. Excuses for major shit like this is pointless, we don’t need to accommodate for people like this.
@@Beefystew101 , really good point. lawyers ,their fame, the money involved etc. have all made us really warped on what pure justice/sentences/courts are for.
they didn't smell alcohol.
I worked with this girl back in late 2018 to early 2019 in the CCC and she was bipolar and a bit crazy at the very least. she randomly told me and a few of our coworkers about how she was 5150'd multiple times growing up on a group trip to walmart one night. It all made sense when we were both walking around cleaning up garbage at the red cross campsite for the paradise fire in chico, we did a little shit talking which lead to her verbally threatening me with a knife (we were allowed to have any blade under 2") and the C1/supervisor walking past had heard that and had a talk with her thank god.
Someone who has witnessed that mental health is NOT all drugs and alcohol. Sad reality I have faced in my life many times, and I wish I had a choice for it to not happen.
Solution is I’m now a recluse, living away from everyone I love so I don’t stuff up. I’ve never been violent to others, more to myself when triggered.
I’m safe now, and I watch things like this to remind myself how lucky I am to have a fantastic mental health team to teach me coping skills relating to my CPTSD.
Everyone assumes I’m a drug addict or alcoholic, I’ve never done drugs (apart from what’s prescribed) and drink minimally.
It hurts so much to be judged and I’ve done 1000hrs of therapy to help in recovery.
Not everyone who has a psychotic break is an addict.
Her actions were horrific, and so were the actions of the injured officer …
Such an unfortunate event and waste of life. 😢
I figured she had some type of a past with no cares getting a life sentence
Can't help but wonder if this information was disclosed to the jury before sentencing her to life in prison??

@@PatrickBaptist Sad but true.
I'm assuming the level of charge stuck because if she didn't intend to kill someone, she was only carrying the knife for self-defence . . . but she had no reason to defend herself from the officer 😐
Her sentence for First Degree Premeditated Attempted Murder was crazy.
Meanwhile, kid killers get less.
Absolutely insane sentence when men 10x worse are let back on the streets over and over again.
I don’t see how this was pre-meditated, definitely upped her sentence because he was a cop.
I'm not a legal expert. Just a thought. Its premeditated, maybe because she didn't just attack at the onset of contact. She spoke with the officer, she concealed the weapon, then after walking past him she turned a stabbed. That's a premeditated choice. In my opinion and how the law might look at it.
@@tavias.7604 You are actually pretty spot on. In Florida premeditated means it wasn't an instant heat of the passion attack. They consider the time she had when the officer first made contact with her until she stabbed him was enough time to cool down and if they dont it is premeditated.

This chick is evil deep down. Alcohol makes you do dumb things, but having that knife in her hand behind her back took some planning. Not to mention playing the victim, and waiting until the cop's guard was down to stab him. That takes some evil thought forget the alcohol. Not to mention she aimed right for the guy's neck. She could have just swung it around and ran off. She tried to kill him. Jury got it right.
I agree I sensed that she was deliberately weird and manipulative at the station. She's really off and mean.
The lack of accountability screams with this one! She really thought she could do whatever and get away with it!
The stabby damsel in distress
Yep. Classic ploy. Men need to learn to ignore it, that and a woman using a baby/soft voice. I'm saying this as a woman. They're setting you up
they didn't say if she was under the influence of anything or had mental issues? she got life without even killing him, but other people murder babies, kids, sexually abuse them and get shit. kind of shocking.
Yeah, that's kind of f'd. It's a bullsh*t charge and sentence for sure. "Attempted murder" my a**. They were just mad that their officer messed up and got hit. If it had been literally ANYONE else, it would have been aggravated assault and she'd have gotten MAYBE 5 years. To be attempted murder there has to be intent to actually kill. Taking a random swipe and running isn't "intent to kill". I highly doubt she even aimed towards a particular area. Don't get me wrong- girl should definitely be punished for her crimes. But jacking a charge up from aggravated assault to attempted first degree murder- which absolutely carries the intent requirement- just because the guy is a police officer is bullsh*t.
@@mommy2librasShe’s bipolar- and yes the sentence was way too harsh! The rookie cop did not follow protocol.

That intro gave me CHILLS
Man. He was trying to be compassionate and considerate of her, and ended up letting her keep her hands behind her back (with a deadly weapon, lucky it was just a knife); and gave her the higher ground, in the dark. When an officer orders you to show your hands, gun raised and screaming at you, this is the reason why.
Cases like this are why it gets annoying when I see ppl comment about cops being so paranoid and extra careful even with small women and teenagers. Up close knife beats gun most times. Especially if it's a sneak attack.
She did this to the cop to get out from getting in trouble. She thought she could kill the cop and get away from her DUI accident she just got into. Plain and simple.
