    Ahhh yes. I used to describe you to people as the woodworker who has a fascination with hand planes, glue and clamps. Never enough of any of them. Now I just add "that long haired" to it. Yes at my age I am very jealous of actually all of them. I could learn the first three but am out of luck on the last one.

    A wonderful addition to any bench, for sure. Now, every time we use our shooting board, we can smile, and remember that we did our best. Thanks, Rob!
    Keep on truckin' with the freak flag a flyin'.

    "And the sign said long haired freaky people need not apply." 😂 Sorry Rob, I had to.
    This is an excellent idea that I need to incorporate into my bench. One question on benches. I'm considering building a new one and would like to use your design. Unfortunately, my garage floor slopes in both directions (center drain), so the "sled" style feet may be tricky. Any concerns with just 4 legs?
    Also, for anyone reading the comments, I purchased one of Rob's shooting boards during their New Year's sale. It is fantastic. Perfectly square, well made and despite being a utility piece is quite nice looking. I've had great results with it and honestly can't recommend it highly enough.

    Fantastic flow, such a pleasure to watch this obscure (for me) project. I work with a number of carpenters, do none of it myself but I have to finish their work, they could take some lessons here on tight joints and smooth edges but it's difficult to tell guys how to improve if they are not seeking improvement without being told.

    hi long hair Rob... love your teachings.. I am new to woodworking and have been aquiring different power tools but through your videos as well as some others I have developed an interest in hand tool techniques.. the planers and saws that i see on your videos are first of all works of art in themselves and from my extensive knowledge probably the best one could get however the cost of these are extremely expensive..though I do understand the price is reflected in the quality but could you make a video showing what planers and saws and chisels and such are plenty good at lesser monetary cost. (if there is such a thing)
    if you already have made a video like that then i apologize and refer back to i am new .. thanks..

    The height of the shelf was perfectly aligned to the height of the fence when you cut off the tab on the table saw. Was it a happy accident?

    I notice you said you have to sharpen more often with hardwood, how often? I was using white oak last week and had to re sharpen after every tail/pin on my IBC chisel is that normal?
    And thanks for the continued great content

    I have to ask. When your using your hand plane why do you clear it of shavings after each pass? Just a habit or is there a specific reason? I have always wanted a collection of hand tools and the knowledge to use them so thanks for sharing your passion for woodworking and your knowledge. If you haven’t could you do a video on what a beginner should own to do hand made dovetails and other joinery. Also I’m very interested in the shooting board as I have a very very cheap table saw that always leaves saw marks which leaves tiny gaps in my glue ups. Still watching all of your videos to learn as much as I can before buying any tools and putting them to use. Cheers 🍻

    • @RobCosmanWoodworking
      @RobCosmanWoodworking  5 місяців тому

      Its both. I rub the tooth line to clear the shavings. At this point its just a pure habit response. Would the shavings significantly affect the performance of the saw? If typical wood thickness 3/4 inch and less no, but on thicker pieces it could slow the cut down.

    Hi Rob, great idea and video. Also, can you make a video with a solution on packing up the dovetail tail board when using a moxon vice. As you were thinking about during your last AMA. Cheers, Ash.

      @@RobCosmanWoodworking Thanks Rob and team, I have been thinking about it and all I could come up with was a heavy block which was un upside down L shape and overhung the back of the vice. It would be great to hear what ideas you have. Cheers

    That's a great idea, Rob~! I have a Sjöbergs workbench with the cabinet underneath, so I usually sit my Cosman shooting board across its rails, but I like your solution better. I'll be seeing if I can fit a shelf in there. Looks like it'll provide more protection for the shooting board's edges. Thanks for sharing this~!!

    Great addition to the Cosman workbench! Will that fit all of the different sizes of shooting boards or bench hooks? Could you build a sectioned shelf all the way across to fit several? How would you build that? Great video thank you for sharing! Take care👍🏻

    • @RobCosmanWoodworking
      @RobCosmanWoodworking  5 місяців тому

      The answer to most of those questions is yes. The answer to the how to add a section would be to make the vertical pieces larger then add a second horizontal shelf that joins to the vertical pieces.

    I was going to comment and say you could’ve glued the bottom of the pin sockets because you have a bit of face grain in that plywood but after you assembled it I thought to myself, “I don’t think he needed any glue and that would have held together just fine“lol

    • @RobCosmanWoodworking
      @RobCosmanWoodworking  5 місяців тому +1

      Your logic is sound though since it is plywood. Good comment!
