- Replacing the water pump and timing belt may look hard but if you follow my advice you will be able to complete the job in less that a few hours.
Thanks Jim. I found disconnecting the wiring from the alternator much easier when you remove the valve cover. You can flip the entire wiring harness back out of the way of the valve cover.
Thats true it would give you a little more room.Thank you for your input.
@@jimthecarguy duh!
GREAT video. im not comfortable doing this, had a shop do it.. much respect to all the better DIY owners better than me. lol
Thanks 👍
Nice one, I could see someone not noticing the key , that would ruin your day. Good tip.
Oh yea without the key in place it would be a real bad day.Lol
Great work Jim and keep up the good work!
Thank you for stopping by Terry
Good job at explaining and showing how
Good instruction Jim I'm a honda guy and need to do this job on my 97 accord
The key to keeping the crank pulley keyed to the crank is to not loose the key that keys it. That my friends is the key!
Good video well explain it thank you so much but not question I just wanted to change the water pump is that going to interfere with the timing belt??
Timing belt has to come off in order to access water pump.
I just bought the car on "offer up" and it started getting hot the next day....I haven't seen any leaking but it was super low on radiator fluid...I have drained and refilled it with coolant and am now keeping a close eye it
Keep me posted.
I got lost on the way the timing belt should be set to avoid engine issues. What are the markings supposed to add up too
Job well done Jim !
Thank you for stopping by the shop
Hello Jim,
Love the video and instructions, would like to know how do I go about purging the air out ?
The best way to purge the air is by filling the radiator and leave the radiator cap off with the car running until the antifreeze is warm and then just to off the radiator and over flow container. Thanks for watching. Don't forget to hit the bell for notifications when a new video is posted.
How much you think is a job like that? More or less
Hey brother....so I bought a radiator for my 03 civic....installed it and it is still overheating when I drive it more than 40 minutes....would a head gasket cause it to overheat?
Are the cooling fans working?
@@jimthecarguy yes fans where rigged to stay running....I also noticed air bubbles coming up through the radiator fluid when I stopped it off
I meant "topped it off"
I'm having the same exact issues . I just bought a water pump lord knows I hope that's all I need for this car .
Air bubbles are also coming through my radiator
If my 03 civic is overheating should I change the waterpump?
Is the water pump leaking?
Do i need to replace the Timing Belt Tensioner too?
Every time you go in to the water pump it is wise to replace both at the same time!
@@meteorology7487 thank you!
another great job jim

Jim, go to SMA and look at the crank socket eric uses on hondas. They make taking the bolt out easy peasy. I think eric has it on his amazon store. Take care.
Thank you I did see the one Eric uses.
You are super cool bro...thank you
Thank you too
queations. is this the same as a 2002 Honda civic DX.
Shawn Lewis yes. 2001-2005 to be exact.
good job
Thank you! Cheers!
thanks Jim
Will do brother...thank you
Any time
how much do you charge for a job like that?
Jose Ramirez a shop generally would charge about $900 CAD to do timing belt, pump, tensioner job.
ROFL this isn't anything like my 2003 Honda Civic ... my hybrid is a total different animal... zero similarities.
OK I hate videos that spend 90 percent of the time showing simple stuff then rush through the part we all need help with
8:32 he is doing the opposite he suggests not to do! Would not take my car to him.
What are you talking about? What makes you think that I would even work on your car?
@@jimthecarguy me thinks I don't want you working on my car. Look how you suffered moving the wiring harness aside. Half the time your body is blocking the camera view.
@@marcodoz I would like to see you do this job or any job at all because you must be a professional . You criticize someone for giving free information to anyone. I see your channel has done nothing to help anyone." This channel doesn't have any content "
@@jimthecarguy free incorrect, incomplete information, no thanks.
Yes, no content on my channel, you should do the same.
Marcodoz Oh now I see you are a Troll
