Great ….excellent delivery too!! No dumbness…I’m 68 and have been fixing euro bikes and cars like forever.. artist who appreciates style and quality…your vids are really nicely done I hope somebody is paying you for this.
Hi. Nice video. I've done this job a couple times. You don't have to pull valve cover. Pull the two studs off alternator bracket and you can tilt the top timing cover out from the bottom and down to clear the lip. Also, everyone be real careful on that belt tensioner bolt. Those threads are notorious for stripping in the block, well before you hit 33lbs of torque. I'd hit snug and call it. I actually wouldn't even bother replacing water pump or tensioner unless you need to. Those original honda parts are good for 300k+, so don't invite trouble. Thanks
Indeed beware. I just did a TimeSert repair on both the tensioner bolt hole and an alternator bolt hole. Had to remove water pump, and had to get a 3/4 tap wrench for the tensioner hole, and I lowered the engine and cut a little notch in the wheel well to access the alternator bolt hole. I used sockets and extensions on the timesert bits from the wheel well. Success!
I did alot of searching before I found your video alot of them just show you how to disassemble it but you included everything on your video. Thanks it helped me alot and I was able to get my water pump replace and put everything back into its place. Keep up the great job
Thank you for posting these videos. I like your explanations of everything in the videos I've watched. I feel much more educated about my honda and can help my friends with theirs
Great video. Thanks for doing this. I have an oil pump that needs to be replaced, so digging into that - while i have the covers off to get to the oil pump, going to replace the timing belt and water pump as well, so this is excellent.
Is there any reason I cannot break the crank bolt loose first, before disassembling everything? It seems like I could break it loose then tighten it up again to turn the motor. Obviously, if I can't get the crank bolt loose it's a deal breaker on the timing belt replacement. Thank you for the great video.
Your video content is excellent last weekend I did the valve lash adjustment on my 2002 Honda Civic LX by watching your video the job was very easy after your instruction now I think I will be able to change the timing belt also can you please tell me is this an interfering engine if the belt breaks will it destroy the engine again your videos are excellent for someone that's a little mechanically inclined and can follow instructions I had the confidence to do it myself with the valve adjustment thank you
Thank you very much for the information the problem I'm having is it's making a chirping sound like a bird chirping I thought it might be one of the belts I disconnected both belts off the air conditioner and the power steering pump and it still makes this chirping sound from that side of the engine could that be the timing belt tensioner or the water pump making a chirping sound the vehicle has 147,000 miles I don't know if either have ever been replaced I just got the car the chirping noise does go away once you increase the RPM
Great video. I’m in the beginning process of doing the same to my Civic EX 2004 coupe. It’s intimidating so am glad I found your video. Will have to rent the Honda special tool to complete. Wish I had you as an advisor next to me as I venture into this journey. Again, thanks for great content.
I have a problem and don’t know how to fix. In the course of this fix I discovered that the last person who worked on the car left the cam gear with the arrow pointing down instead of up like it should be. I’m searched online to no avail. What do I need to do to get it corrected? Please help.
So I finished the whole process same exact thing you did but now the car won’t start it cranks but won’t start anymore and I already drove it a distance too with it fine
I just finished changing the water pump and timing belt on my son 2005 civic couple days ago and when I started it up it miss fire now I’m trying to retiming it but I had a very hard time to get the crankshaft pulley off I ordered a tool for it but it just not working do you have any idea on how to do it
I had some mechanic change out my water pump and put in a new belt tensioner but i’ve been noticing that it makes a knock/thump every time I crank the car on or press on the gas after waiting at a light, any idea why ?
Do you really have to remove the valve cover to do this job? I've seen videos where some leave it on and some remove it, but it just seems unnecessary to do all that extra work if the upper timing cover will come out.
What happens if I took off the belt and noticed the camshaft and crankpully timing are both off. Is there anyway to fix it without doing a piston to valve contact?
@@hondaresource so I tried doing the camshaft to tdc counterclockwise and I feel a slot of resistance. It won’t turn counterclockwise anymore. Crankpulley was easy to turn it counterclockwise to tdc but not the camshaft. It won’t turn counterclockwise anymore. It does move a little if I go clockwise on the camshaft though?

@@hondaresourceHi . That's alright. I would like to know if you can give me a parts/components list ?. I'm looking to collect them and do the conversion .

Thanks man I appreciate it I bought a 500 coupe to get back and fourth to work watching this helped get the job done in only 1.2h instead of 3

Doesn't really matter. Engine by default turns counter clockwise though

Depends on the labor rate in your area. For me it would be around$550 parts and labor

I can do it in 2-3 hours
How much should I expect to pay for this job?
800 usd - 1200usd for full kit.
you dont need to turn the engine over ?
You can if you choose, I've done it so many times I know it's right
Thanks!

Concerning the tensioner Bolt in the Honda water pump and timing belt kit (D312k1A), bolt is not included. Is it ok to use the old tensioner bolt?
By the way, great video. Very easy to follow, look forward to learning a great deal more from, you. Thank you.
The original bolt will still work fine
